तं रक्षति स्वयं वह्निर्व्विश्वतो विश्वतोमुखः । हंसः शुचिः सदित्येतच्छुचिरीक्षेद्दिवाकरं ।। २५९.
That fire itself protects him, facing all directions; reciting 'Hamsaḥ Shuchiḥ', let him gaze upon the Sun, pure and radiant.
कृषिं प्रपद्यमानस्तु स्थालीपाकं यथाविधि । जुहुयात् क्षेत्रमध्ये तु स्वनीस्वाहास्तु पञ्चभिः ।। २५९.
When undertaking agriculture, let him, as prescribed, offer the cooked oblation in the middle of the field with five invocations, each with 'Svaha'.
इन्द्राय च मरुद्ब्यस्तु पर्ज्जन्याय भगाय च । यथालिङ्गन्तु विहरेल्लाङ्गलन्तु कृषीबलः ।। २५९.
To Indra, to the Maruts, to Parjanya, and to Bhaga, as appropriate, let the ploughman move the plough, honoring them accordingly.
युक्तो धान्याय सीतायै सुनासीरमथोत्तरं । गन्धमाल्यैर्नमस्कारैर्यजेदेताश्च देवताः ।। २५९.
Harnessed for grain and for Sita, with a well-formed furrow, let him worship these deities with fragrances, garlands, and salutations.
प्रवापने प्रलवने खलसीतापहारयोः । अमोघङ्गर्म्म भवति वर्द्धते सर्व्वदा कृषिः ।। २५९.
At the time of sowing, covering, and protecting the furrow, the ritual is unfailing, and agriculture always prospers.
समुद्रादिति सूक्तेन कामानाप्नोति पावकात् । विश्वानर इति द्वाभ्यां य ऋग्भ्यां वह्निमर्हति ।। २५९.
By the hymn 'Samudra', he attains desires from the fire; by the two verses beginning 'Vishvanara', he is worthy of the fire.
स तरत्यापदः सर्व्वा यशः प्राप्नोति चाक्षयं । विपुलां श्रियमाप्नोति जयं प्राप्नोत्यनुत्तमं ।। २५९.
He crosses over all misfortunes, attains unfading fame, acquires abundant wealth, and gains unsurpassed victory.
. अग्ने त्वमिति च स्तुत्वा धनमाप्नोति वाञ्छितं । प्रजाकामो जपेन्नित्यं वरुणदैवतत्रयं ।। २५९.
By praising with 'Agni, you are,' one obtains the desired wealth; one who desires offspring should always recite the three Varuṇa hymns.
स्वस्त्या त्रयं जपेत् प्रातः सदा स्वस्त्ययनं महत् । स्वस्ति पन्था इति प्रोच्य स्वस्तिमान् व्रजतेऽध्वनि ।। २५९.
For well-being, one should recite the three (hymns) in the morning; always, the great rite of well-being. Saying 'May the path be auspicious,' he journeys with good fortune on the road.
विजीगीषुर्वनस्पते शत्रणां व्याधितं भवेत् । स्त्रिया गर्भप्रमूढाया गर्भमोक्षणमुत्तमं ।। २५९.
One who wishes to conquer should recite 'O Lord of the Forests,' to destroy enemies; for a woman whose womb is obstructed, it brings excellent release of the fetus.
अच्छावदेति सूक्तञ्च वृष्टिकामः प्रयोजयेत् । निराहारः क्लिन्नवासा न चिरेण प्रवर्षति ।। २५९.
One desiring rain should employ the hymn 'Acchā vadata'; fasting, wearing damp clothes, it will rain without delay.
मनसः काम इत्येतां पशुकामो नरो जपेत् । कर्द्दमेन इति स्नायात्प्रजाकामः शुचिव्रतः ।। २५९.
A man desiring cattle should recite 'Manasaḥ kāma'; one wishing for offspring, observing purity, should bathe reciting 'Kardamena.'
अश्वपूर्वा इति स्नायाद्राज्यकामस्तु मानवः । रोहिते चर्म्मणि स्नायात् ब्राह्मणस्तु यथाविधि ।। २५९.
A man desiring royal power should bathe reciting 'Aśvapūrvā'; a Brahmin should bathe properly on a red hide.
राजा चर्म्मणि वैयाघ्रे छागे वैश्यस्तथैव च । दशसाहस्रिको होमः प्रत्येकं परिकीर्त्तितः ।। २५९.
A king should bathe on a tiger skin, a Vaiśya on a goat skin; each oblation is said to be worth ten thousand.
आगार इति सूक्तेन गोष्ठे गां लोकमातरं । उपतिष्ठेद् व्रजेच्चैव यदिच्छेत्ताः सदाक्षयाः ।। २५९.
With the hymn 'Āgāra,' one should worship the cow, the mother of the world, in the cowshed and in the pasture, if one desires inexhaustible wealth.
उपेतितिसृभी राज्ञो दुन्दुभिमभिमन्त्रयेत् । तेजो बलञ्ज प्राप्नोति शत्रुञ्चैव नियच्छति ।। २५९.
Approaching with three (hymns), the king should consecrate the war drum; he obtains energy and strength, and restrains the enemy.
जमूतमृक्तेन तथा सेनाङ्गान्यभिमन्त्रयेत् । यधा लिङ्गं ततो राजा विनिहन्ति रणे रिपून् ।। २५९.
With the juice of the rain cloud, he should likewise consecrate the divisions of the army; as is the sign, so the king destroys enemies in battle.
आग्नेयेति त्रिभिः सूक्तैर्धनमाप्नोति चाक्षयं । अमीवहेति सूक्तेन भूतानि स्थापयेन्निशि ।। २५९.
By the three Agni hymns, one obtains inexhaustible wealth; with the 'Amīvaha' hymn, one restrains beings at night.
संबाधे विषमे दुर्गे बन्धो वा निर्गतः क्कचित् । पलायन् वा गृहीतो वा सूक्तमेतत्तथा जपेत् ।। २५९.
In a crowd, in difficulty, in a fortress, or when bound or escaping somewhere, or fleeing or captured, one should recite this hymn accordingly.
त्रिरात्रं नियतोपोष्य श्रापयेत् पायसञ्चरुं । तेनाहुतिशतं पूर्णं जुहुयात् त्र्यम्बकेत्यृचा ।। २५९.
After fasting with discipline for three nights, one should offer a hundred oblations of milk-rice with the Tryambaka hymn.
समुद्दिश्य महादेवं जीवेदब्दशतं सुखं । तच्चक्षुरित्यचा स्नात उपतिष्ठेद्दिवाकरं ।। २५९.
Dedicating to Mahādeva, one lives happily for a hundred years; having bathed, one should worship the sun with the 'taccakṣur' hymn.
उद्यन्तं मध्यागञ्चैव दीर्घमायुर्ज्जिजीविषुः । इन्द्रा सोमेति सूक्तन्तु कथितं शत्रुनाशनं ।। २५९.
One who wishes for long life should worship the rising and midday sun; the 'Indrā Someti' hymn is declared to destroy enemies.
यस्य लुप्तं व्रतं मोहाद्व्रात्यैर्वा संसृजेत्सह । उपोष्याज्यं स जुहुयात्त्वमग्ने व्रतपा इति ।। २५९.
One whose vow is lost through delusion or by outcastes should restore it; after fasting, he should offer ghee reciting 'You, Agni, are the protector of vows.'
आदित्येत्यृक् च सम्राजं जप्त्वा वादे जयी भवेत् । महीति च चतुष्केण मुच्यते महतो भयात् ।। २५९.
Reciting the 'Āditya' verse and the 'Samrāj' hymn, one becomes victorious in debate; by the fourfold 'Mahīti,' one is freed from great fear.
ऋचं जप्त्वा यदि ह्येतत् सर्व्वकामानवाप्नुयात् । द्वाचत्वारिंशतिं चैन्द्रं जप्त्वा नाशयते रिपून् ।। २५९.
If one recites this ṛc, indeed, he attains all desires; by reciting the Indra hymn forty-two times, he destroys his enemies.
वाचं महीति जप्त्वा च प्राप्नोत्यारोग्यमेव च । शन्नो भवेति द्वाभ्यान्तु भुक्त्वान्नं प्रथतः शुचिः ।। २५९.
By reciting 'vācaṃ mahi,' one obtains health; and by reciting 'śanno bhavatu' twice, after eating pure food, one becomes pure.
हृदयं पाणिना स्पृष्ट्वा व्याधिबिन्नाभिभूयते । उत्तभेदमिति स्नातो हुत्वा शत्रुं प्रमापयेत् ।। २५९.
Touching the heart with the hand, one overcomes diseases caused by internal disorders; by reciting 'uttabhedam,' after bathing and offering oblations, one defeats an enemy.
शन्नोग्न इति सूक्तेन हुतेनान्नमवाप्नुयात् । कन्या वारर्षिसूक्तेन दिग्दोषाद्विप्रमुच्यते ।। २५९.
By offering oblations with the hymn 'śannogna,' one obtains food; by the 'kanyā vārarṣi' hymn, one is freed from the faults of directions.
वाचो विदमिति त्वेतां जपन् वाचं समश्नुते । पवित्राणां पवित्रन्तु पावमान्येयृचो मताः ।। २५९.
By reciting 'vāco vidam,' one attains eloquence; the Pavamanī verses are regarded as the purest among purifying hymns.
वैखानसाऋचस्त्रिंशत्पवित्राः परमा मताः । ऋचो द्विषष्टिः प्रोक्ताश्च परस्वेत्यृषिसत्तम ।। २५९.
The Vaikhānasa tradition considers thirty Pavitra hymns as supreme; O best of seers, sixty-two ṛcs are declared as 'parasva.'
