Within that, Brahmā was self-born, as we have heard; the blessed Hiranyagarbha, having dwelt there for a year—
Then split the egg into two, forming heaven and earth; in the space between those two halves, the Lord created the sky.
He established the earth floating upon the waters, and the ten directions; there he placed time, mind, speech, desire, wrath, and pleasure.
Desiring to create beings, the Lord fashioned creation in that form; he also made lightning, thunder, clouds, the rainbow, and the bow of Indra.
At first he created the birds, and then from his mouth, the rain-god; for the accomplishment of sacrifice, he produced the Rig, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas.
With these, the Sādhyas worshipped the gods, both higher and lower beings; he created Sanatkumāra and Rudra, born from wrath.
He created Marīci, Atri, Aṅgiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, and Vasiṣṭha—the seven mind-born sages, known as the sons of Brahmā.
These seven, along with Rudra, the best, generated offspring; dividing his own body in two, half became the male.

Of the wise Bahuputra, there were four daughters of Vidyut; the best among the sons of Pratyangiras was Kṛśāśva, who bore the divine weapons.
Just as the sun rises and sets, so too, in every age, Hiraṇyakaśipu was born from Diti and Hiraṇyākṣa from Kaśyapa.
And Siṃhikā was born as a daughter, taken as wife by Vipracitti; from her, those beginning with Rāhu, known as the Saiṃhikeyas, were born.
Hiraṇyakaśipu had four sons, renowned for their might: Anuhrāda, Hlāda, Prahlāda—most devoted to Viṣṇu—
and Saṃhrāda was the fourth; Hlāda’s son was Hrada, and Hrada’s sons were Āyuṣmān, Śibi, and Āskala.
Virocana was the son of Prahlāda, and from Virocana was born Bali; Bali had a hundred sons, the foremost being Bāṇa, O great sage.
In a former age, Bāṇa pleased the Lord of Uma with his devotion and received a boon: 'I will dwell ever at your side,' thus he obtained from the Lord.
Hiraṇyākṣa had five sons, among whom were Sambarasura and Śakuni; Dvimūrdhā, Śaṅkura, and Ārya were also his sons, and Danu had a hundred sons.
Swarbhānu’s daughter was Prabhā, and Puloman’s daughter is known as Śacī; Upadānavī, Hayaśirā, Śarmiṣṭhā, and Vārṣaparvaṇī are also named.
Pulomā and Kālakā, both daughters of Vaiśvānara, became wives of Kaśyapa; from them were born millions of sons.
Prahlāda’s lineage numbered forty million Nivātakavacas; Tāmrā had six daughters: Kākī, Śvenī, and Bhāsyā as well.
Gṛdhrikā, Śruci, and Sugrīvā—these were also Tāmrā’s daughters; from them came crows and others, and from Tāmrā also horses, camels, Aruṇa, and Garuḍa.
Vinatā bore a thousand sons, and from Surasā came the serpents; from Kadrū too, a thousand sons—Śeṣa, Vāsuki, and Takṣaka among them.

From Khasā were born the Yakṣas and Rākṣasas, and from the sage’s union with Apsaras; from Ariṣṭā came the Gandharvas, both steady and moving, from Kaśyapa.
Their descendants are countless; the gods conquered the Dānavas. Diti, having lost her sons, sought to please Kaśyapa.
Desiring a son who would strike down Indra, she obtained one from Kaśyapa; but as she slept after washing her feet, Indra destroyed her embryo.
Indra, finding an opportunity, split the embryo; from it arose the Maruts, fifty-one companions of Śakra, blazing with energy.
All this, Hari and Brahmā, having consecrated King Pṛthu, granted the kingdoms in order; Hari became lord over the others.
Agni said: O sage, I will tell you of the creation from Kaśyapa among the Adityas; in the Cākṣuṣa era, the Tuṣita gods were again born from Aditi through Kaśyapa.
