उद्धूतमवधूतञ्च सव्यं दक्षिणमेव च । अनालक्षितविस्फोटौ करालेन्द्रमहासखौ ।। २५२.
The shaking, the tossing, the leftward and rightward movements, the unnoticed explosions, the mighty blows of the elephant-hand—
विकरालनिपातौ च विभीषणभयानकौ । समग्रार्द्धतीयांशपादपादार्द्धवारिजाः ।। २५२.
The fierce descents, terrifying and dreadful, the complete, half, and third parts, and the lotus-shaped foot placements—
प्रात्यालीढमथालीढं वराहं लुलितन्तथा । इति द्वात्रिंशतो ज्ञेयाः खड्गचर्मविधौ रणे ।। २५२.
The backward stance, the forward stance, the boar, and the twisting—thus, thirty-two are to be known in the science of sword and shield in battle.
परवृत्तमपावृत्तं गृहीतं लघुसञ्ज्ञितं । ऊद्र्ध्वात् क्षइप्तमधः क्षिप्तं सन्धारितविधारितं ।। २५२.
The turning away, the turning back, the grasped, the light movement, the upward throw, the downward throw, the holding and the restraining—
श्येनपातं गजपानं ग्राहग्राह्यन्तथैव च । एवमेकादशविधा ज्ञेयाः पाशविधा रणाः ।। २५२.
The hawk's descent, the elephant's drinking, and the crocodile's grasp—thus, eleven types of noose techniques in battle are to be known.
ऋज्वायतं विशालञ्च तिर्य्यग्भ्रामितमेव च । पञ्चकर्म विनिर्द्दिष्टं व्यस्ते पाशे महात्मभिः ।। २५२.
The straight, the wide, the oblique, and the spinning—these five actions are described by the great ones when the noose is separated.
छेदनं भेदनं पातो भ्रमणं शयनं तथा । विकर्त्तनं कर्त्तऩञ्च चक्रकर्मेदमेव च ।। २५२.
Cutting, splitting, striking, whirling, lying down, slicing, carving, and the wheel technique—these are the actions.
आस्फोटः क्ष्वेडनं भेदस्त्रासान्दोलितकौ तथा । शूलकर्माणि जानीहि षष्ठमाघातसञ्ज्ञितं ।। २५२.
The stamping, the hissing, the splitting, the frightening, the swinging—know these as the spear techniques, the sixth is called the blow.
दृष्टिघातं भुजाघातं पार्श्वघातं द्विजोत्तम । ऋजुपक्षेषुणा पातं तोमरस्य प्रकीर्त्तितं ।। २५२.
Striking the eyes, striking the arms, striking the sides, O best of twice-born; the fall with a straight-feathered arrow, and the technique of the javelin are described.
आहतं विप्र गोमूत्रप्रभूतङ्कमलासनं । ततोर्द्धगात्रं नमितं वामदक्षिणमेव च ।। २५२.
The struck, O brahmin, the cow-urine, the abundant, the lotus-seated, the one with raised body, the bent, the left and the right—
आवृत्तञ्च चपरावृत्तं पादोद्धतमवप्लुतं । हंसमर्द्दं विमर्दञ्च३ गदाकर्म प्रकीर्त्तितं ।। २५२.
The turned and the counter-turned, the raised foot, the leaping, the swan's crushing, and the pressing—these are said to be the techniques of the mace.
करालमवघातञ्च दंशोपप्लुतमेव च । क्षिप्तहस्तं स्थितं शून्यं परशोस्तु विनिर्दिशेत् ।। २५२.
The fierce blow, the biting leap, the thrown hand, the standing, the empty—these are specified for the axe.
ताडनं छेदनं विप्र तथा चूर्णनमेव च । मुद्गरस्य तु कर्माणि तथा प्लवनघातनं ।। २५२.
Striking, cutting, O brahmin, and also pulverizing—these are the actions of the mallet, as well as the leaping and striking.
सं श्रान्तमथ विश्रान्तं गोविसर्गं सुदुर्द्धरं । भिन्दिपालस्य कर्माणि लगुडस्य च तान्यपि ।। २५२.
The exhausted, the rested, the cow-release, the very difficult—these are the actions of the sling and also of the club.
अन्त्यं मध्यं परावृत्तं निदेशान्तं द्विजोत्तम । वज्रस्यैतानि कर्माणि लगुडस्य च तान्यपि ।। २५२.
O best of twice-born, the final, the middle, the reversed, and the one ending with an order—these are the actions of the club and the mace.
हरणं छेदनं घातो बलोद्धारणमायतं । कृपाणकर्म निर्दिष्टं पातनं स्फोटनं तथा ।। २५२.
Seizing, cutting, killing, forceful lifting, and extension—these are said to be the actions of the sword, along with striking down and smashing.
त्रासनं रक्षणं घातो बलोद्धरणमायतम् । क्षेपणीकर्म निर्दिष्टं यन्त्रकर्मैतदेव तु ।। २५२.
Frightening, protecting, killing, forceful lifting and extension—these are declared as the actions of the missile, and likewise the actions of mechanical devices.
सन्त्यागमवदंशश्च वराहोद्धूतकं तथा । हस्तावहस्तमालीनमेकहस्तावहस्तके ।। २५२.
Abandonment, biting, and the boar's tossing; carrying with one or both hands, and holding with one or both hands.
द्विहस्तवाहुपाशे च कटिरेचितकोद्गते । उरोललाटघाते च भुजाविधमनन्तथा ।। २५२.
Binding with both hands and arms, raising at the waist, striking the chest and forehead, and likewise twisting the arms.
द्विहस्तवाहुपाशे च कटिरेचिककोद्गते । गात्रसंश्लेषणं शान्तं तथा गात्रविपर्य्ययः ।। २५२.
Binding with both hands and arms, raising at the waist, embracing the limbs gently, and also the reversal of the limbs.
ऊद्र्ध्वप्र्हारं घातञ्च गोमूत्रं सव्यदक्षिणे । पारकन्तारकं दण्डं४ करवीरन्धमाकुलं ।। २५२.
Upward striking, killing, the cow's urine posture, left and right, the staff for crossing obstacles, and the Karavīra staff, confusing the enemy.
तिर्य्यग्बन्धमपामार्गं५ भीमवेगं सुदर्शनं । सिंहाक्रान्तं गजाक्रान्तं गर्द्दभाक्रान्तमेव च ।। २५२.
Binding sideways, the Apāmārga technique, terrible force, the Sudarshana, the lion's leap, the elephant's leap, and the ass's leap as well.
गदाकर्माणि जानीयान्नियुद्धस्याथ कर्म च । आकर्षणं विकषञ्च बाहूनां मूलमेव च ।। २५२.
One should know the actions of the mace and the techniques of wrestling: pulling, twisting, and the root of the arms.
ग्रीवाविपरिवर्त्तञ्च पृष्ठभङ्गं सुदारुणं । पर्य्यासनविपर्य्यासौ पशुमारमजाविकं ।। २५२.
Turning the neck, breaking the back, which is very terrible, reversing and counter-reversing, and the slaughter of sheep and goats.
पादप्रहारमास्फोटं ककटिरेचितकन्तथा । गात्रश्लेषं स्कन्धगतं महीव्याजनमेव च ।। २५२.
Striking with the foot, smashing, raising at the waist, embracing the body, mounting the shoulder, and sweeping the ground.
उरोललाटघातञ्च विस्पष्टकरणन्तथा । उद्धूतमवधूतञ्च तिर्य्यङ्मार्गगतं तथा ।। २५२.
Striking the chest and forehead, making it clear, tossing up and shaking down, and moving along a transverse path.
गजस्कन्धमवक्षेपमपराङ्मुखमेव च । देवमार्गमधोमार्गममार्गगमनाकुलं ।। २५२.
Throwing down from the elephant's shoulder, turning away, the divine path, the downward path, and the confusion of moving in the wrong direction.
यष्टिघातमवक्षेपो वसुधादारणन्तथा । जानुबन्धं भुजाबन्धं गात्रबन्धं सुदारुणं ।। २५२.
Striking with a staff, throwing down, tearing up the earth, binding the knees, binding the arms, and binding the limbs, which is very terrible.
विपृष्ठं सोदकं शुभ्रं भुजावेष्टितमेव च । सन्नद्धैः संयुगे भाव्यं सशस्त्रैस्तैर्गजादिभिः ।। २५२.
Striking from behind, with water, shining, and binding the arms; in battle, these should be done with armor and weapons by elephants and others.
वराङ्कुशधरौ चोभौ एको ग्रीवागतोऽपरः । स्कन्धगौ द्वौ च धानुष्कौ द्वौ च खड्गधरौगजे ।। २५२.
Both holding the best goad, one at the neck, two at the shoulders, two archers, and two sword-bearers on the elephant.
