अन्याये व्यस्ने युद्धे प्रवृत्तस्यानिवारणं । उपेक्षेयं स्मृता भ्रातोपेक्षितश्च हिडिम्बया ।। २४१.
In injustice, calamity, or battle, when one is engaged and cannot be restrained, indifference is to be shown, as was remembered with the brother and as was shown by Hiḍimbā.
मेघान्धकारवृष्टग्निपर्वताद्भुतदर्शनं । दरस्थानं च सैन्यानां दर्शनं ध्वजशालिनां ।। २४१.
The wondrous sight of clouds, darkness, rain, fire, and mountains, as well as the place of the army and the sight of those bearing banners.
छिन्नपाटितभिन्नानां संसृतानां व दर्शनं । इतीन्द्रजालं द्विषताम्भीत्यर्थमुपकल्पयेत् ।। २४१.
The sight of those who are cut, torn, broken, or mingled together; thus, magic is to be employed for the purpose of frightening enemies.
अग्निरुवाच रामोक्तोक्ता मथा नीतिः स्त्रीणां राजन् नृणां वदे । लक्षणं यत्समुद्रेण गर्गायोक्तं यथा पुरा ।। २४३.
Agni said: The policy spoken by Rāma is the same for women and men, O king; the characteristics described by Samudra and previously told by Garga.
समुद्र उवाच । पुंसाञ्च लक्षणं वक्ष्ये स्त्रीणाञ्चैव शुभाशुभं । एकाधिको द्विशुक्लश्च त्रिगम्भीरस्तथैव च ।। २४३.
Samudra said: I will describe the characteristics of men and also the auspicious and inauspicious traits of women: one extra, two white, three deep, and likewise.
त्रित्रिकस्त्रिप्रलम्बश्च त्रिभिर्व्याप्नोति यस्तया । त्रिबलीमांस्त्रिविनतस्त्रिकालज्ञश्च सुव्रत ।। २४३.
Threefold, three hanging, and that which is spread by three; three lines, three bent, and knowing the three times, O virtuous one.
पुरुषः स्यात्सुलक्षण्यो विपुलश्च तथा त्रिषु । चतुर्ल्लेशस्तथा यश्च तथैव च चतुःसमः ।। २४३.
A man is well-marked and broad in three places; four marks, and likewise one who is equal in four ways.
चतुष्किष्कुश्चतुर्दंश्च सप्तस्नेहो नवामलः । दशपद्मो दशव्यूहो न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डलं ।। २४३.
Four thighs, four teeth, seven oils, nine pure, ten lotuses, ten formations, and a circumference like a banyan tree.
षडुन्नतोऽष्टवंशश्च सप्तस्नहो नवामलः । दशपद्मो दशव्यूहो न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डलः ।। २४३.
Six raised, eight portions, seven oils, nine pure, ten lotuses, ten formations, and a circumference like a banyan tree.
चतुर्दशसमद्वन्द्वः षोडशाक्षश्च शस्यते । धर्मार्थकामसंयुक्तो धर्मो ह्येकाधिको मतः ।। २४३.
Fourteen equal pairs, sixteen eyes are praised; endowed with righteousness, wealth, and desire, righteousness is considered one extra.
तारकाभ्यां विना नेत्रे शुक्लदन्तो द्विशुक्लकः । गाम्बीरस्त्रिश्रवा नाभिः सत्त्वञ्चैकं त्रिकं स्मृतं ।। २४३.
Without the stars, the eyes; white-toothed, two white; deep, three ears, navel; and one quality, three are remembered.
अनसूया दया क्षान्तिर्मङ्गलाचारयुक्तता । शौचं स्पृहा त्वकार्पण्यमनायासश्च शौर्य्यता ।। २४३.
Non-envy, compassion, patience, auspicious conduct, purity, aspiration, humility, effortlessness, and courage.
त्रित्रिकस्त्रिप्रलम्बः स्याद्वृषणो भुजयोर्नरः । दिग्देशजातिवर्गांश्च तेजसा यशसा श्रिया ।। २४३.
Threefold, three hanging, the testicles and arms of a man; the regions, birth, classes, by brilliance, fame, and fortune.
व्याप्नोति यस्त्रिकव्यापि त्रिबलीमान्नरस्त्वसौ । उदरे बलयस्तिस्त्रो नरन्त्रिविनतं श्रृणु ।। २४३.
He who spreads in three ways, three lines; in the belly, three strengths; listen to the man who is threefold bent.
देवतानां द्विजानाञ्च गुरूणां प्रणतस्तु यः । धर्मार्थकामकालज्ञस्त्रिकालज्ञोऽभिधीयते ।। २४३.
He who bows to the deities, the twice-born, and teachers, who knows the proper times for righteousness, wealth, and pleasure, is called one who knows the three times.
उरो ललाटं वक्त्रञ्च त्रिवस्तीर्णो विलेखवान् । द्वौ पाणी द्वौ तथा पादौ ध्वजच्छत्रादिभिर्युतौ ।। २४३.
He who marks the chest, forehead, and face with three lines, whose two hands and two feet are adorned with banners, parasols, and similar items.
अङ्गुल्यो हृदयं पृष्ठं कटिः शस्तं चतुःसमं । षण्णवत्यह्गुलोत्सेधश्चतुष्किष्कुप्रमाणतः ।। २४३.
The fingers, heart, back, and waist are each fourfold; the height of ninety-six fingers and the measure of four spans.
द्रंष्ट्राश्चतस्रश्चन्द्राभाश्चतुःकृष्णं वदामि ते । नेत्रतारौ ब्रुवौ श्मश्रुः कृष्णाः केशास्तथैव च ।। २४३.
I declare that four tusks, shining like the moon, and four black ones; the pupils of the eyes, eyebrows, beard, and hair are likewise black.
नासायां वदने स्वेदे कक्षयोर्विडगन्धकः । ह्रस्वं लिङ्गं तथा ग्रीवा जङ्घे स्याद्वेदह्रस्वकं ।। २४३.
Sweat on the nose and face, foul odor in the armpits; a short organ and neck, and the calves are also short according to the Veda.
सूक्ष्माण्यह्गुलिपर्वाणि नखकेशद्विजत्वचः । हनू नेत्रे ललाटे च नासा दीर्घा स्तनान्तरं ।। २४३.
The joints of the fingers are fine, and the nails, hair, teeth, and skin are twice-born; the jaws, eyes, and forehead, as well as the nose, are long, and the space between the breasts.
वक्षः कक्षौ खा नासोन्नतं वक्त्रं कृकाटिका । स्रिग्धास्त्वक्केशदन्ताश्च लोम दृष्टिर्नखाश्च वाक् ।। २४३.
The chest, armpits, mouth, nose are prominent; the face is rounded; the skin, hair, and teeth are smooth; the hair, gaze, nails, and speech likewise.
जान्वोरुर्वोश्च पृष्ठस्थ वंशौ द्वौ करनासयोः । नेत्रे नासपुटौ कर्णौ मेढ्रं पायुमुखेऽमलं ।। २४३.
The knees and thighs have two bamboo-like structures on the back; the eyes, nostrils, ears, genitals, and anus are pure at their openings.
जिह्वोष्ठे तालुनेत्रे तु हस्तपादौ नखास्तथा । शिश्नाग्रवक्त्रं शस्यन्ते पद्माभा दश देहिनां ।। २४३.
The tongue, lips, palate, eyes, hands, feet, and nails, as well as the tip of the penis and mouth, are praised as ten lotus-like features in embodied beings.
पाणिपादं सुखं ग्रीवा श्रवणे हृदयं शिरः । ललाटमुदरं पृष्ठं वृहन्तः पूजिता दश ।। २४३.
The hands and feet are pleasant, the neck, ears, heart, head, forehead, abdomen, and back are the ten honored parts.
प्रसारितभुजस्येह मध्यमाग्रद्वयान्तरं । उच्छ्रायेण समं यस्य न्यग्रोधपरिमण्डलः ।। २४३.
For one whose arms are extended, the space between the tips of the middle fingers is equal to his height, forming a circular shape like a banyan tree.
पादौ गुल्फौ स्फिचौ पर्श्वौ वङ्क्षणौ वृषणौ कुचौ । कर्णौष्ठे सक्थिनी जह्घे हस्तौ बाहू तथाक्षिणी ।। २४३.
The feet, ankles, hips, sides, groins, testicles, breasts, ears, lips, thighs, calves, hands, arms, and eyes.
चतुर्द्दशमद्वन्द्व एतत्सामान्यतो नरः । विद्याश्चतुर्द्दश द्व्यक्षैः पश्येद्यः षोडशाक्षकः ।। २४३.
Fourteen pairs, these are generally found in a man; whoever sees fourteen sciences with two syllables, is called one with sixteen syllables.
रूक्षं शिराततं गात्रमशुभं मांसवजितं । दुर्गन्धिविपरीतं यच्छस्तन्दृष्ट्या प्रसन्नया ।। २४३.
A rough, scattered body, inauspicious, devoid of flesh, with a foul and contrary odor, is praised when seen with a clear gaze.
धःयस्य मधुरा वाणी गतिर्म्मत्तेभसन्निभा । एककूपभवं रोम भये रक्षा सकृत् सकृत् ।। २४३.
His speech is sweet, his gait resembles a proud elephant; hair growing from a single pore, protection in fear, again and again.
समुद्र उवाच शस्ता स्त्री चारुसर्वाङ्गी मत्तमातङ्गगामिनी । गुरूरुजघना या च मत्तपारावतेक्षणा ।। २४४.
Samudra said: An auspicious woman is one with beautiful limbs, who walks like a proud elephant, whose hips are heavy, and whose eyes are like those of a proud pigeon.
