प्राचि नन्दिमहाकालौ याम्ये भृङ्गिविनायकौ । वारुणे वृषभस्कन्दौ देवीचण्डौ तथोत्तरे
In the east are Nandi and Mahakala; in the south, Bhringi and Vinayaka; in the west, Vrishabha and Skanda; and in the north, Devi and Chanda.
तच्छाखामूलदेशस्थौ प्रशान्तशिशिरौ घटौ। पर्ज्जन्याशोकनामानौ भूतं सञ्जीवनामृतौ
At the base of those branches are the tranquil and cool Ghata, Parjanya, Ashoka, Bhuta, Sanjivana, and Amrita.
धनदश्रीप्रदौ द्वौ द्वौ पूजयेदनुपूर्वशः । स्वनामभिश्चतुर्थ्यन्तैः प्रणवादिनमोन्तगैः
He should worship, in order, the pairs who bestow wealth and prosperity, using their names in the dative case, ending with the fourth, and concluding with Om.
लोकग्रहावसुद्वाःस्थस्रवन्तीनां द्वयं द्वयं। भानुत्रयं युगं वेदो लक्ष्मीर्गणपतिस्तथा
The guardians of the worlds, the gatekeepers of the earth, the two streams, the three suns, the yuga, the Veda, Lakshmi, and Ganesha.
इति देवा मखागारे तिष्ठन्ति प्रतितोरणं। विघ्नसङ्घापनोदाय क्रतोः संरक्षणाय च
Thus the gods stand at the sacrificial hall, at each gateway, to dispel assemblies of obstacles and to protect the rite.
वज्रं शक्तिं तथा दण्डं खड्गं पाशं ध्वजं गदां। त्रिशूलं चक्रमम्भोजम्पताकास्वर्च्चयेत् क्रमात्
One should worship, in order, the thunderbolt, spear, staff, sword, noose, banner, mace, trident, discus, lotus, and flag.
ओ ह्रूं फट् नमः। ओं ह्रूं फट् द्वाः स्थशक्तये ह्रूं फट् नमः इत्यादिमन्त्रैः। कुमुदः कुमुदाक्षश्च पुण्डरीकोथ वामनः। शङ्कुकर्णः सर्वनेत्रः सुमुख सुप्रतिष्ठितः
With the mantras 'o hrūṃ phaṭ namaḥ', 'oṃ hrūṃ phaṭ, to the power at the gate, hrūṃ phaṭ namaḥ', and others, Kumuda, Kumudākṣa, Puṇḍarīka, Vāmana, Śaṅkukarṇa, Sarvanetra, Sumukha, and Supratiṣṭhita are invoked.
ध्वजाष्टदेवताः पूज्याः पूर्वादौ भूतकोटिभिः। ओं कौं कुमुदाय नम इत्यादिमन्त्रैः
The eight deities of the banner are to be worshipped, beginning from the east, with hosts of spirits, using mantras such as 'oṃ kauṃ, salutations to Kumuda'.
हेतुकं त्रिपुरघ्नञ्च शक्त्याख्यं यमज्ह्वकं । कालं करालिनं षष्ठमेकाङ्घ्निम्भीममष्टकं
Hetuka, the destroyer of Tripura, the one called Śakti, Yamajhvaka, Kāla, Karālina, the sixth Ekāṅghni, Bhīma, and the eighth Aṣṭaka.
तथैव पूजयेद् दिक्षु क्षेत्रपालाननुक्रमात्। वलिभिः कुसुमैर्धूपैः सन्तुष्टान् परिभावयेत्
In the same way, one should worship the guardians of the directions, successively, with offerings, flowers, and incense, and honor them when satisfied.
कम्बलास्तृतेषु वर्णेषु वंशस्थूणास्वनुक्रमात् । पञ्च क्षित्यादितत्त्वानि सद्योजातादिभिर्यजेत्
On colored carpets, upon bamboo pillars in succession, one should worship the five elements beginning from earth, with Sadyojāta and other deities.
सदाशिवपदव्यापि मण्डपं धाम शाङ्करं। पताकाशक्तिसंयुक्तं तत्त्वदृष्ट्यावलोकयेत्
The pavilion, which pervades the realm of Sadāśiva, the abode of Śaṅkara, joined with banners and powers, should be regarded according to the vision of the principles.
दिव्यान्तरिक्षभूमिष्ठविघ्नानुत्सार्य्य पूर्ववत्। प्रविशेत् पश्चिमद्वारा शेषद्वाराणि दर्शयेत्
Having driven away obstacles from the divine, atmospheric, and earthly realms as before, one should enter by the western gate and show the remaining gates.
प्रदक्षिणक्रमाद्गत्वा निविष्टो वेदिदक्षिणे। उत्तराभिमुखः कुर्य्याद् भूतशुद्धिं यथा पुरा
Proceeding in a clockwise manner, and seated at the southern side of the altar, facing north, one should perform the purification of the elements as formerly.
अन्तर्य्यागं विशेषार्घ्यं मन्त्रद्रव्यादिशोधनं। कुर्व्वींत आत्मनः पूजां पञ्चगव्यादि पूर्ववत्
One should perform the internal offering, the special arghya, the purification of mantras and materials, and worship oneself with the five products of the cow, as before.
साधारङ्कलसन्तस्मिन् विन्यसेत्तदनन्तरं। विशेषाच्छिचवतत्त्वाय तत्त्वत्रयमनुक्रमात्
In the common seat, after that, one should place, especially for the Śiva principle, the three principles in succession.
ललाटस्कन्धपादान्तं शिवविद्यात्मकं परं। रुद्रनारायणब्रह्मदैवतं निजसञ्चरैः
From the forehead, shoulder, and foot's end, the supreme essence of Śiva's knowledge, the deities Rudra, Nārāyaṇa, and Brahma, with their own movements.
ओं हं हां । मूर्त्तीस्तदीश्वरंस्तत्र पूर्ववद्विनिवेशयेत्। तद्व्यापकं शिवं साङ्गं शिवहस्तञ्च मूर्द्धनि
With 'oṃ haṃ hāṃ', one should install the form and its lord there as before; the all-pervading Śiva with his limbs, and the Śiva hand upon the head.
ब्रह्मरन्ध्रप्रविष्टेन तेजसा बाह्यसान्तरं । तमः पटलमाधूय प्रद्योतितदिगन्तरं
With the radiance entering through the Brahmarandhra, both outward and inward, dispelling the veil of darkness, the directions become illuminated.
आत्मानं मूर्त्तिपैः सार्द्वं स्रग्वस्त्रकुसुमादिभिः । भूषयित्वा शिवोस्मीति ध्यात्वा बोधासिमुद्धिरेत्
Adorning oneself together with the forms, with garlands, cloth, flowers, and the like, meditating 'I am Śiva', one should rise with the sword of knowledge.
चतुष्पदान्तसंस्कारैः संस्कुर्य्यान्मशमण्डपं। विक्षिप्य विकिरादीनि कुशकूर्चोपसंहरेत्
With the rites at the four corners, one should consecrate the pavilion, scattering and then gathering the blades of kuśa grass and other materials.
आसनीकृत्य वर्द्धन्यां वास्त्वादीन् पूर्ववद्यजेत्। शिवकुम्भास्त्रवर्द्धन्यौ पूजयेच्च स्थिरासने
Having made seats on the growth, one should worship the site and others as before; one should also worship the Śiva pot and the growth pot on stable seats.
स्वदिक्षु कलशारूढांल्लोकपालाननुक्रमात्। सहस्त्रनयनं शक्रं वज्रपाणिं विभावयेत्
One should visualize the guardians of the worlds, each upon a pot in their respective directions, and Indra, the thousand-eyed, holding the thunderbolt.
ऐरावतगजारूढं स्वर्णवण किरीटिनं। सहस्रनयनं शक्रं वज्रपाणिं विभावयेत्
One should contemplate Indra, the thousand-eyed, holding the thunderbolt, mounted on the elephant Airavata, crowned with a golden diadem.
सप्तार्च्चिषं च विभ्राणमक्षमालां कमण्डलुं। ज्वालामालाकुलं रक्तं शक्तिहस्तमजासनं
One should envision (Agni) bearing seven flames, holding a rosary and water pot, wreathed in a garland of flames, red in color, holding a spear, and seated upon a goat.
महिषस्थं दण्डहस्तं यमं कालानलं स्मरेत्। रक्तनेत्रं खरारूढं खड्गहस्तञ्च नैर्ऋृतं
One should remember Yama, standing on a buffalo, holding a staff, as the fire of time; and Nairṛta, with red eyes, mounted on a donkey, holding a sword.
वरुणं मकरे श्वेतं नागपाशधरं स्मरेत्। वायुं च हरिणे नीलं कुवेरं मेघसंस्थितं
One should remember Varuṇa, white, seated on a makara, holding a serpent-noose; Vāyu, blue, on a deer; and Kubera, stationed upon a cloud.
त्रिशूलिनं वृषे चेशं कूर्म्मेनन्तन्तु चक्रिणं। ब्रह्माणं हंसगं ध्यायेच्चतुर्वक्त्रं चतुर्भुजं
One should meditate on Śiva, trident in hand, upon a bull; on Viṣṇu, with the discus, upon a tortoise and Ananta; and on Brahmā, four-faced and four-armed, riding a swan.
स्तम्बमूलेषु कुम्भेषु वेद्यां धर्मादिकान् यजेत्। दिक्षु कुम्भेष्वनन्तादीन् पूजयन्त्यपि केचन
At the base of pillars, on pots, and on the altar, one should worship Dharma and the others; in the directions, some also worship Ananta and the rest upon pots.
शिवाज्ञां श्रावयेत् कुम्भं भ्रामयेदात्मपृष्ठगं । पूर्ववत् स्थापयेदादौ कुम्भं तदनु वर्द्धनीं
One should proclaim Śiva's command, revolve the pot around one's own back, and, as before, first place the pot and then the vessel of increase.
