ब्रह्मादिकारणात्यागाद्विनिः सृत्य सुषुम्णया । वामस्तनान्तमानीय तयोर्मूलमतन्द्रितः
Having relinquished the cause beginning with Brahma, draw it out through the suṣumnā; bring it to the left breast, attentively at their root.
मूलमन्त्रमविस्पष्टं वौषडन्तं समुच्चरेत्। तदग्नौ जुहुयादाज्यं यवसम्मितधारया
Recite the root mantra indistinctly, ending with 'vauṣaṭ'; then offer ghee into the fire, in a measure equal to barley.
आचामं चन्दनं दत्वा ताम्बूलप्रभृतीनपि। भक्त्या तद्भूतिमावन्द्य विदध्यात्प्रणतिं परं
After sipping water and offering sandalwood, and also betel and similar items, with devotion, honor its glory and perform the highest reverence.
ततो वह्णिं समब्यर्च्य फडन्तास्त्रेण संवरान्। संहारमुद्रयाहृत्य क्षमस्वेत्यभिधाय च
Then, having properly worshipped the fire, using the 'phaṭ' weapon mantra, collect the restraints, and with the gesture of dissolution, say 'Forgive.'
भासुरान् परिधीस्तांश्च पूरकेण हृदाऽणुना । श्रद्ध्या परयात्मीये स्थापयेत् हृदम्बुजे
Place the radiant boundaries, with the breath and the subtle heart, with supreme faith, within the lotus of one's own heart.
सर्वपाकाग्रमादाय कृत्वा मण्डलकद्वयम् । अन्तर्वहिर्बलिं दद्यादाग्नेय्यां कुण्डसन्निधौ
Taking the chief cooked food, prepare two mandalas; offer the bali both inside and outside, near the Agni altar.
ओं हां रुद्रेभ्यः स्वाहा पूर्वे मातृब्यो दक्षिणे तथा। वारुणे हां गणेभ्यश्च स्वाहा तेभ्यस्त्वयं बलिः
Om hāṃ, svāhā to the Rudras in the east, and likewise to the Mothers in the south; hāṃ to the Varuna, and svāhā to the Ganas; this bali is for them.
उत्तरे हाञ्च यक्षेभ्य ईशाने हां ग्रहेभ्य उ । अग्नौ हामसुरेभ्यस्च रक्षोब्यो नैर्ऋते बलिः
In the north, hāṃ to the Yakshas; in the northeast, hāṃ to the Grahas; in the fire, hāṃ to the Asuras, and bali to the Rakshasas in the southwest.
वायव्ये हाञ्च नागेभ्यो नक्षत्रेभ्यश्च मध्यतः। हां राशिभ्यः स्वाहा वह्नौ विश्वेभ्यो नैर्ऋते तथा
In the northwest, hāṃ to the Nagas; in the center, hāṃ to the Nakshatras; hāṃ, svāhā to the Rāśis; in the fire, bali to the Viśvas and to the southwest.
वारुण्यां क्षेत्रपालाय अन्तर्बलिरुदाहृतः। द्वितीये मण्डले वाह्ये इन्द्रायाग्नियमाय च
In the west, offer the inner bali to the field guardian; in the second mandala, outside, to Indra and Agniyama.
नैर्ऋताय जलेशाय वायवे धनरक्षिणे। ईशानाय च पूर्वादौ हीशाने ब्रह्मणे नमः
Homage to Nairṛta, to the lord of waters, to Vāyu, the protector of wealth; and to Īśāna at the eastern beginning, to Īśāna, to Brahman, I bow.
नैर्ऋते विष्णवे स्वाहा वायसादेर्वहिर्बलिः। बलिद्वयगतान्मन्त्रान् संहारमुद्रयाऽऽत्मनि
Oblation to Nairṛta, to Viṣṇu, svāhā; an external offering for crows and others; the mantras belonging to both offerings are dissolved with the gesture of dissolution in oneself.
ईश्वर उवाच कपिलापूजनं वक्ष्ये एभिर्म्मन्त्रैर्यजेच्च गाम्। ओं कपिले नन्दे नमः ओं कपिले भद्रिके नमः
Īśvara said: I will explain the worship of Kapilā; with these mantras one should worship the cow: Om, Kapilā, Nandā, salutations; Om, Kapilā, Bhadrikā, salutations.
ओं कपिले सुशीले नमः कपिले सुरभिप्रभे। ओं कपिले सुमनसे नमः ओं भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदे नमः
Om, Kapilā, Suśīlā, salutations; Kapilā, radiant as Surabhi; Om, Kapilā, Sumanasā, salutations; Om, bestower of enjoyment and liberation, salutations.
सौरभेयि जगन्मातर्देवानाममृतप्रदे। गृहाण वरदे ग्रासमीपसितार्थञ्च देहि मे
O Saurabhi, mother of the world, giver of immortality to the gods, accept, O grantor of boons, the offering; grant me the desired object sought.
वन्दिताऽसि वसिष्ठेन विश्वामित्रेण धीमता। कपिले हर मे पापं यन्तया दुष्कृतं कृतम्
You have been worshipped by Vasiṣṭha and by the wise Viśvāmitra; O Kapilā, remove my sin, restrain the evil deed committed.
गावो ममाग्रतो नित्यं गावः पृष्ठत एव च। गावो मे हृदये चापि गवां मध्ये वसाम्यहम्
Cows are always before me, cows are behind me as well; cows are also in my heart, and I dwell among the cows.
दत्तं गुह्णन्तु मे ग्रासं जप्त्वा स्यां निर्म्मलः शिवः। प्रार्च्य विद्यापुस्तकानि गुरुपादौ नमेन्नरः
Let them conceal the offering I have given; having recited, I shall be pure and auspicious; after worshipping, one should bow to the books of knowledge and to the feet of the teacher.
यजेत् स्नात्वा तु मध्याह्ने अष्टपुष्पिकया शिवम्। पीठमूर्त्तिशिवाङ्गानां पूजा स्यादष्टपुषिपिका
One should worship Śiva at midday after bathing, with eight flowers; the worship of the seat, the image, and the limbs of Śiva is performed with eight flowers.
मध्याह्ने भोजनागारे सुलिप्ते पाकमानयेत्। ततो मृत्युञ्जयेनैव वौषडन्तेन सप्तधा
At midday, in the dining hall, well-plastered, one should bring the cooked food; then, with the Mṛtyuñjaya mantra ending in vauṣaṭ, seven times.
जप्तैः सदर्भशङ्खस्थैः सिञ्चेत्तं वारिविन्दुभिः। सर्वपाकाग्रमुद्धत्य शिवाय विनिवेदयेत्
With recitations, using darbha grass and conch, one should sprinkle it with drops of water; having taken the best of all cooked food, one should offer it to Śiva.
अथार्द्धं चुल्लिकाहोमे विधानायोपकल्पयेत् । विशोध्य विधिना चुल्लीं तद्वह्निं पूरकाहुतिम्
Then, half is prepared for the cullikā fire ritual; having purified the cullikā according to the procedure, one should make the offering to that fire.
हुत्वा नाभ्यग्निना चैकं ततो रेचकवायुना। वह्निवीजं समादाय कादिस्थानगतिक्रमात्
Having offered one with the navel fire, then with the exhaled air; taking the seed of fire, according to the order of the places beginning with 'ka'.
शिवाग्निस्त्वमिति ध्यात्वा चुल्लिकाग्नौ निवेशयेत्। ओं हां अग्नये नमो वै हां सोमाय वै नमः
Meditating, 'You are Śiva's fire,' one should place it in the cullikā fire; Om hāṃ, salutations to Agni; hāṃ, salutations to Soma.
सूर्य्याय बृहस्पतये प्रजानां पतये नमः। सर्वेभ्यश्चैव देवेभ्यः सर्वविश्वेभ्य एव च
Salutations to Sūrya, to Bṛhaspati, to the lord of creatures; and to all the gods, and to all the Viśvedevas as well.
हामग्नये स्विष्टिकृते पूर्वादावर्च्चयेदिमान्। स्वाहान्तामाहुतिं दत्वा क्षमयित्वा विसर्जयेत्
Hām to Agni, for the completion of the sacrifice, one should worship these in the east; having given the offering ending with svāhā, one should ask forgiveness and dismiss.
चुल्ल्या दक्षिणबाहौ च यजेद्धर्माय वै नमः। वामबाहावधर्म्माय काञ्जिकादिकभाण्डके
At the right side of the cullikā, one should worship for Dharma, salutations; at the left side, for Adharma, in the vessel of sour gruel and others.
रसपरिवर्त्तमानाय वरुणाय जलाग्नये । विघ्नराजो गृहद्वारे पेषण्यां सुभगो नमः
For the transformation of taste, to Varuṇa, to the fire of water; at the house door, to the lord of obstacles, in the grinding place, salutations to Subhaga.
ओं रौद्रिके नमो गिरिके नमश्चोलूखले यजेत्। बलप्रियायायुधाय नमस्ते मुषले यजेत्
Om, reverence to the fierce one, reverence to the mountain-dweller; one should worship at the mortar. To the lover of strength, to the weapon, reverence; one should worship at the pestle.
सम्मार्ज्जन्यां देवतोक्ते कामाय शयनीयके। मध्यस्तम्भे च स्कन्दाय दत्वा वास्तुबलिं ततः
On the broom, as prescribed by the gods, for desire; on the bedstead; and on the central pillar, for Skanda—having offered the house-offering, then—
