अस्त्रमन्त्रेण निर्द्दग्धं वह्नौ दर्भं पुनः क्षिपेत्। क्षिप्त्वा घृते कृतग्रन्थिकुशं प्रादेशसम्मितं
With the weapon mantra, one should again cast the scorched darbha into the fire; after casting, one should place a knotted blade of kusa grass, measuring a span, into the ghee.
पक्षद्वयमिडादीनां त्रयं चाज्ये विभावयेत्। क्रमाद्भागत्रयादाज्यं स्रुवेणादाय होमयेत्
One should envision two wings and three bodies for Ida and the others in the ghee; then, taking three portions of ghee in order with the ladle, one should offer them in the fire.
स्वेत्यग्नौ हा घृते भागं शेषमाज्यं क्षिपेत् क्रमात्। ओं हां अग्नये स्वाहा। ओं हां सोमाय स्वाहा। ओं हां अग्नीषोमाभ्यां स्वाहा। उद्घाटनाय नेत्राणां अग्नेर्नेत्रत्रये भुखे
Thus, in the fire, one should offer the portion of ghee, and the remaining ghee in order: 'Om ham to Agni, svaha; Om ham to Soma, svaha; Om ham to Agni and Soma, svaha.' For the opening of the eyes, to the three eyes of Agni.
स्रुवेण घृतपूर्णेन चतुर्थीमाहुतिं यजेत्। ओं हां अग्नये स्विष्टकृते स्वाहा। अभिमन्ञ्य षडङ्गेन बोधयेद्धेनुमुद्रया
With the ladle filled with ghee, one should offer the fourth oblation: 'Om ham to Agni Svishtakrit, svaha.' Meditating with the six limbs, one should awaken with the gesture of the cow.
अवगुण्ठ्य तनुत्रेण रक्षेदाज्यं शराणुना । हृदाज्यविन्दुविक्षेपात् कुर्य्यादभ्युक्ष्य शोधनं
Covering the ghee with the threefold body, one should protect it with an arrow gesture; by casting a drop of ghee from the heart, one should perform the sprinkling and purification.
वक्त्राभिघारसन्धानं वक्त्रैकीकरणं तथा। ओं हां सद्योजाताय स्वाहा। ओं हां वामदेवाय स्वाहा। ओं हां अघोराय स्वाहा। ओं तत्पुरुषाय स्वाहा। ओं हां ईशानाय स्वाहा। इत्येकैकघृताहुत्या कुर्य्याद्वक्त्राभिघारकम्
One should perform the unification of the mouths and their joining: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Aghora, svaha; Om tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Ishana, svaha.' Thus, with each ghee offering, one should perform the touching of the mouths.
औं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां वामदेवाघोराब्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां अघोरतत्पुरुषाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां तत्पुरुषेशानाब्यां स्वाहा। इतीवक्त्रानुसन्धानं मन्त्रैरेभिः क्रमाच्चरेत्। अग्नितो गतया वायुं निर्ऋतादिशिवान्तया
'Om ham to Sadyojata and Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva and Aghora, svaha; Om ham to Aghora and Tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Tatpurusha and Ishana, svaha.' Thus, one should perform the connection of the mouths in order with these mantras, from Agni to Vayu, ending with Shiva.
बक्त्राणापेकतां कुर्य्यात् स्रुवेण घृतधारया। ओं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाघोरतत्पुरुषेसानेभ्यः स्वारा। इतीष्टवक्त्रे वक्त्राणामन्तर्भावस्तदाकृतिः
One should establish the unity of the mouths with a stream of ghee from the ladle: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, Ishana, svaha.' Thus, in the desired mouth, the inclusion of the mouths is accomplished in that form.
ईशेन वह्निमभ्यर्च्य दत्वास्त्रेणाहुतित्रयम्। कुर्यात् सर्व्वात्मना नाम शिवाग्निस्त्वं हुताशन
Having worshipped the fire with Ishana, and offered three oblations with the weapon, one should, with full intent, recite the name: 'You are Shiva-fire, O Hutashana.'
हृदार्च्चितौ विसृष्टाग्नौ पितरौ विधिपूरणीं। मूलेन वौषुडन्तेन दद्यात् पूर्णां यथाविधि
When the fire has been worshipped at the heart and released, and the two ancestors have been properly honored, one should offer the complete oblation with the root and the ending 'vauṣuḍa', as prescribed.
ततो हृदम्बुजे साङ्गं ससेनं भासुरं परम् । यजेत् पूर्व्ववदावाह्य प्रार्थ्याज्ञान्तर्प्पयेच्छिवम्
Then, in the lotus of the heart, with all its limbs, with its retinue, shining and supreme, one should worship as before, having invoked, and offer one's desired request to Shiva.
यागाग्निशिवयोः कृत्वा नाडीसन्धानमात्मना। शक्त्या मूलाणुना होमं कुर्य्यादङ्गैर्द्दशांशतः
Having established the connection between the sacrificial fire and Shiva by means of the channels within oneself, one should perform the homa with the root and the weapon, offering one-tenth portions with the limbs.
घृतस्य कार्षिको होमः क्षीरस्य मधुनस्तथा। शुक्तिमात्राहुतिर्द्दध्नः प्रसृतिः पायसस्य तु
The oblation of clarified butter is a kārṣika measure; likewise for milk and honey. For curd, the offering is a śukti measure; for rice pudding, a prasṛti measure.
यथावत् सर्व्वभक्षाणां लाजानां मुष्टिसम्मितम्। खण्डत्रयन्तु मूलानां फ्लानां स्वप्रमाणतः
For all edible items, the proper measure is a handful of roasted rice; for roots, three pieces; for fruits, their own appropriate measure.
ग्रासार्द्धंमात्रमन्नानां सूक्ष्माणि पञ्च होमयेत्। इक्षोरापर्व्विकं मानं लतानामङ्गुलद्वयम्
For cooked food, offer half a mouthful; for fine items, five offerings. For sugarcane, the measure is an aparvika; for creepers, two finger-widths.
पुष्पं पत्रं स्वमानेन समिधां तु दसाङ्गुलम्। चन्द्रचन्दनकाश्मीरकस्तूरीयक्षकर्द्दमान्
For flowers and leaves, use their own measure; for fuel sticks, ten finger-widths. For moonstone, sandalwood, kashmir resin, musk, and yak resin—
कलायसम्मितानेतान् गुग्गुलुं वदरास्थिवत्। कन्दानामष्टमं भागं जुहुयाद्विधिवत् परम्
Offer guggulu in a measure equal to kalaya, as with the stone of the jujube fruit; for tubers, offer one-eighth part, properly, as the highest rule.
होमं निर्वर्त्तयेदेवं ब्रह्मवीजपदैस्ततः। घृतेन स्रुचि पूर्णायां निधायाधोमुखं स्रुवम्
Thus, perform the homa with the seed-words of Brahma; placing a full ladle of ghee, with the ladle facing downward.
स्रुगग्रे पुष्पमारोप्य पञ्चाद्वामेन पाणिना। पुनः सव्येन तौ धृत्वा शङ्खसन्निभमुद्रया
Placing a flower at the tip of the ladle, hold it with the left hand; then, holding both with the right hand, form a gesture resembling a conch.
समुद्गतोऽर्द्धकायश्च समपादः समुत्थितः। नाभौ तन्मृलमाधाय स्रुगग्रव्यग्रलोचनः
Rising up, with half the body elevated and feet together, place the flower at the navel, with the tip of the ladle directed toward the eyes.
ब्रह्मादिकारणात्यागाद्विनिः सृत्य सुषुम्णया । वामस्तनान्तमानीय तयोर्मूलमतन्द्रितः
Having relinquished the cause beginning with Brahma, draw it out through the suṣumnā; bring it to the left breast, attentively at their root.
मूलमन्त्रमविस्पष्टं वौषडन्तं समुच्चरेत्। तदग्नौ जुहुयादाज्यं यवसम्मितधारया
Recite the root mantra indistinctly, ending with 'vauṣaṭ'; then offer ghee into the fire, in a measure equal to barley.
आचामं चन्दनं दत्वा ताम्बूलप्रभृतीनपि। भक्त्या तद्भूतिमावन्द्य विदध्यात्प्रणतिं परं
After sipping water and offering sandalwood, and also betel and similar items, with devotion, honor its glory and perform the highest reverence.
ततो वह्णिं समब्यर्च्य फडन्तास्त्रेण संवरान्। संहारमुद्रयाहृत्य क्षमस्वेत्यभिधाय च
Then, having properly worshipped the fire, using the 'phaṭ' weapon mantra, collect the restraints, and with the gesture of dissolution, say 'Forgive.'
भासुरान् परिधीस्तांश्च पूरकेण हृदाऽणुना । श्रद्ध्या परयात्मीये स्थापयेत् हृदम्बुजे
Place the radiant boundaries, with the breath and the subtle heart, with supreme faith, within the lotus of one's own heart.
सर्वपाकाग्रमादाय कृत्वा मण्डलकद्वयम् । अन्तर्वहिर्बलिं दद्यादाग्नेय्यां कुण्डसन्निधौ
Taking the chief cooked food, prepare two mandalas; offer the bali both inside and outside, near the Agni altar.
ओं हां रुद्रेभ्यः स्वाहा पूर्वे मातृब्यो दक्षिणे तथा। वारुणे हां गणेभ्यश्च स्वाहा तेभ्यस्त्वयं बलिः
Om hāṃ, svāhā to the Rudras in the east, and likewise to the Mothers in the south; hāṃ to the Varuna, and svāhā to the Ganas; this bali is for them.
उत्तरे हाञ्च यक्षेभ्य ईशाने हां ग्रहेभ्य उ । अग्नौ हामसुरेभ्यस्च रक्षोब्यो नैर्ऋते बलिः
In the north, hāṃ to the Yakshas; in the northeast, hāṃ to the Grahas; in the fire, hāṃ to the Asuras, and bali to the Rakshasas in the southwest.
वायव्ये हाञ्च नागेभ्यो नक्षत्रेभ्यश्च मध्यतः। हां राशिभ्यः स्वाहा वह्नौ विश्वेभ्यो नैर्ऋते तथा
In the northwest, hāṃ to the Nagas; in the center, hāṃ to the Nakshatras; hāṃ, svāhā to the Rāśis; in the fire, bali to the Viśvas and to the southwest.
वारुण्यां क्षेत्रपालाय अन्तर्बलिरुदाहृतः। द्वितीये मण्डले वाह्ये इन्द्रायाग्नियमाय च
In the west, offer the inner bali to the field guardian; in the second mandala, outside, to Indra and Agniyama.
