He should proclaim the Śaiva command to these at the end, and then, taking the ladle and spoon, with mouths upward and downward in order—
After heating them in the fire, he should touch the root, middle, and tip of the darbha grass; at the place touched by the kuśa grass, he should invoke the knowledge of the self, of Shiva-nature.
He should place the three principles in order, with the syllables hāṃ, hīṃ, hūṃ, saṃ, and ra in sequence; in the ladle, he should praise the power, Shambhu, having placed the heart-atom.
Having worshipped the two with necks wrapped in three cords, with flowers and the like, he should place them above the kuśa grass, on his own right side.
Taking clarified butter from a cow, purified by inspection and other means, one should conceive of one's own form as composed of Brahman, and then take that ghee.
After whirling it above the altar, at the level of the heart, within the range of the fire, one should again meditate on the form of Vishnu and place the ghee within the domain of Ishana.
Having taken it up with the tip of a blade of sacred grass, and uttering 'svaha' with a slight bow of the head, one should offer a drop to Vishnu, and immediately after, to Rudra.
Contemplating one's own self, holding it at the navel, one should then float; with blades of darbha grass of a span's length, using the tips of the thumb and ring finger.
With both hands holding the darbha, facing the fire, one should perform the act of floating with the weapon gesture; likewise, facing the heart and self, one should perform the subsequent floating.
Having obtained darbha grass that has been scorched at the heart, one should purify it by casting it with a weapon; with another blazing darbha, one should sweep and ignite it.
With the weapon mantra, one should again cast the scorched darbha into the fire; after casting, one should place a knotted blade of kusa grass, measuring a span, into the ghee.
One should envision two wings and three bodies for Ida and the others in the ghee; then, taking three portions of ghee in order with the ladle, one should offer them in the fire.
Thus, in the fire, one should offer the portion of ghee, and the remaining ghee in order: 'Om ham to Agni, svaha; Om ham to Soma, svaha; Om ham to Agni and Soma, svaha.' For the opening of the eyes, to the three eyes of Agni.
With the ladle filled with ghee, one should offer the fourth oblation: 'Om ham to Agni Svishtakrit, svaha.' Meditating with the six limbs, one should awaken with the gesture of the cow.
Covering the ghee with the threefold body, one should protect it with an arrow gesture; by casting a drop of ghee from the heart, one should perform the sprinkling and purification.
One should perform the unification of the mouths and their joining: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Aghora, svaha; Om tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Ishana, svaha.' Thus, with each ghee offering, one should perform the touching of the mouths.
'Om ham to Sadyojata and Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva and Aghora, svaha; Om ham to Aghora and Tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Tatpurusha and Ishana, svaha.' Thus, one should perform the connection of the mouths in order with these mantras, from Agni to Vayu, ending with Shiva.
One should establish the unity of the mouths with a stream of ghee from the ladle: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, Ishana, svaha.' Thus, in the desired mouth, the inclusion of the mouths is accomplished in that form.
Having worshipped the fire with Ishana, and offered three oblations with the weapon, one should, with full intent, recite the name: 'You are Shiva-fire, O Hutashana.'
When the fire has been worshipped at the heart and released, and the two ancestors have been properly honored, one should offer the complete oblation with the root and the ending 'vauṣuḍa', as prescribed.
Then, in the lotus of the heart, with all its limbs, with its retinue, shining and supreme, one should worship as before, having invoked, and offer one's desired request to Shiva.
Having established the connection between the sacrificial fire and Shiva by means of the channels within oneself, one should perform the homa with the root and the weapon, offering one-tenth portions with the limbs.
The oblation of clarified butter is a kārṣika measure; likewise for milk and honey. For curd, the offering is a śukti measure; for rice pudding, a prasṛti measure.
For all edible items, the proper measure is a handful of roasted rice; for roots, three pieces; for fruits, their own appropriate measure.
For cooked food, offer half a mouthful; for fine items, five offerings. For sugarcane, the measure is an aparvika; for creepers, two finger-widths.
For flowers and leaves, use their own measure; for fuel sticks, ten finger-widths. For moonstone, sandalwood, kashmir resin, musk, and yak resin—
Offer guggulu in a measure equal to kalaya, as with the stone of the jujube fruit; for tubers, offer one-eighth part, properly, as the highest rule.
Thus, perform the homa with the seed-words of Brahma; placing a full ladle of ghee, with the ladle facing downward.
Placing a flower at the tip of the ladle, hold it with the left hand; then, holding both with the right hand, form a gesture resembling a conch.
Rising up, with half the body elevated and feet together, place the flower at the navel, with the tip of the ladle directed toward the eyes.
