ततो हृदयमन्त्रेण जुहुयादाहुतित्रयम्। पुंसवनाय वामेन तृतीये मासि पूजयेत्
Then, with the heart-mantra, he should offer three oblations; for the rite of producing a son, he should worship with the left hand in the third month.
आहुतित्रितयं दद्याच्छिरसाम्बुकणान्वितं। सीमन्तोन्नयनं षष्ठे मासि सम्पूज्य रूपिणा
He should give three oblations, accompanied by drops of water on the head; for the parting of the hair, he should worship the form in the sixth month.
जुहुयादाहुतीस्तिस्त्रः शिखया शिखयैव तु। वक्त्राङ्गकल्पनां कुर्य्याद्वक्त्रोद्घाटननिष्कृती
He should offer three oblations with the topknot, indeed with the topknot itself; he should arrange the features of the mouth and perform the rites for opening and purification of the mouth.
जातकर्म्मंनृकर्म्मभ्यां दशमे मासि पूर्ववत। वह्नि सन्धुक्ष्य दर्भाद्यैः स्नानं गर्भमलापहं
The birth-rite and the man-making rite should be performed in the tenth month as before; after kindling the fire with darbha grass, he should bathe to remove the impurities of the womb.
सुवर्णबन्धनं देव्या कृतं ध्यात्वा हृदार्च्चयेत्। सद्यः सूतकनाशाय प्रोक्षयेदस्त्रवारिणा
Meditating on the golden binding made for the goddess, he should worship with the heart; for the immediate removal of impurity after birth, he should sprinkle with water empowered by a missile.
कुम्भन्तु वहिरस्त्रेण ताडयेद्वर्म्मणोक्षयेत्। अस्त्रेणोत्तरपूर्व्वाग्रान्मेखलासु वहिः कुशान्
He should strike the pot outside with a missile and purify it with armor; with the missile, he should touch the upper and lower ends of the girdle, and place the kuśa grass outside.
आस्थाप्य स्थापयेत्तेषु हृदा परिधिविस्तरं। वक्ताणामस्त्रमन्त्रेण ततो नालापन्तुत्तये
Having placed and established them, he should expand the enclosure with the heart; then, with the missile-mantra for the officiants, he should address the three ends of the stalk.
समिधः पञ्च होतव्याः प्रान्ते मूले घृतप्लुताः। ब्रह्माणं शङ्करं विष्णुमनन्तञ्च हृदार्च्चयेत्
He should offer five kindling sticks, dipped in ghee, at the ends and roots; with the heart, he should worship Brahma, Shankara, Vishnu, and Ananta.
दूर्वाक्षतैश्च पर्य्यन्तं परिधिस्थाननुक्रमात्। इन्द्रादीशानपर्य्यन्तान्विष्टरस्थाननुक्रमात्
With dūrvā grass and unbroken rice, he should go around the enclosure in order; from Indra to Īśāna, he should go around the extended places in sequence.
अग्नेरभिमुशीभूतान् निजदिक्षु हृदार्च्चयेत्। निनार्य्य विघ्नसङ्घातं वालकं पालयिष्यथ
He should worship, with the heart, those who are associated with Agni in their respective directions; thus, you will ward off obstacles and protect the child.
शैवीमाज्ञामिमान्तेषां श्रावयेत्तदनन्तम्। गृहीत्वा स्रुक्स्रुवावलूर्ध्ववदनाधोमुखैः क्रमात्
He should proclaim the Śaiva command to these at the end, and then, taking the ladle and spoon, with mouths upward and downward in order—
प्रताप्याग्नौ त्रिधा दर्भमूलमध्याग्रकैः स्परृशेत् । कुशस्पृषृप्रदेशे तु आत्मविद्याशिवात्मकं
After heating them in the fire, he should touch the root, middle, and tip of the darbha grass; at the place touched by the kuśa grass, he should invoke the knowledge of the self, of Shiva-nature.
क्रमात्तत्त्वत्रयं न्यस्य हां हीं हूं सं रवैः क्रमात्। स्रुचि शक्तिं स्तुवे शम्भुं विन्यस्य हृदयाणुना
He should place the three principles in order, with the syllables hāṃ, hīṃ, hūṃ, saṃ, and ra in sequence; in the ladle, he should praise the power, Shambhu, having placed the heart-atom.
त्रिसूत्रीवेष्टितग्रीवौ पूजितौ कुसुमादिभिः। कुशानामुपरिष्टात्तौ स्थापयित्वा स्वदक्षिणे
Having worshipped the two with necks wrapped in three cords, with flowers and the like, he should place them above the kuśa grass, on his own right side.
गव्यमाज्यं समादाय वीक्षणादिविशोधितं। स्वकां ब्रह्ममयीं मूर्त्ति सञ्चिन्त्यादाय तद्घृतं
Taking clarified butter from a cow, purified by inspection and other means, one should conceive of one's own form as composed of Brahman, and then take that ghee.
कुण्डस्योर्ध्वं हृदावर्त्यं भ्रामयित्वाग्निगोचरे। पुनर्व्विष्णुमयीं ध्यात्वा घृतमीशानगोचरे
After whirling it above the altar, at the level of the heart, within the range of the fire, one should again meditate on the form of Vishnu and place the ghee within the domain of Ishana.
धृत्वादाय कुशाग्रेण स्वाहान्तं शिरसाणुना । जुहुयाद्विष्णवे विन्दुं रुद्ररूपमनन्तरं
Having taken it up with the tip of a blade of sacred grass, and uttering 'svaha' with a slight bow of the head, one should offer a drop to Vishnu, and immediately after, to Rudra.
बावयन्निजमात्मानं नाभौ धृत्वा प्लवेत्ततः। प्रादेशमात्रदर्भाभप्यामङ्गुष्ठानामिकाग्रकैः
Contemplating one's own self, holding it at the navel, one should then float; with blades of darbha grass of a span's length, using the tips of the thumb and ring finger.
धृताभ्यां सम्मुखं वह्नेरस्त्रेणाप्लवमाचरेत्। हृदात्मसम्मुखं तद्वत् कुर्यात् सम्प्लवनन्ततः
With both hands holding the darbha, facing the fire, one should perform the act of floating with the weapon gesture; likewise, facing the heart and self, one should perform the subsequent floating.
हृदालब्धदग्धदर्भं शस्त्रक्षेपात् पवित्रयेत्। दीप्तेनापरदर्भेण निवाह्यानेन दीपयेत्
Having obtained darbha grass that has been scorched at the heart, one should purify it by casting it with a weapon; with another blazing darbha, one should sweep and ignite it.
अस्त्रमन्त्रेण निर्द्दग्धं वह्नौ दर्भं पुनः क्षिपेत्। क्षिप्त्वा घृते कृतग्रन्थिकुशं प्रादेशसम्मितं
With the weapon mantra, one should again cast the scorched darbha into the fire; after casting, one should place a knotted blade of kusa grass, measuring a span, into the ghee.
पक्षद्वयमिडादीनां त्रयं चाज्ये विभावयेत्। क्रमाद्भागत्रयादाज्यं स्रुवेणादाय होमयेत्
One should envision two wings and three bodies for Ida and the others in the ghee; then, taking three portions of ghee in order with the ladle, one should offer them in the fire.
स्वेत्यग्नौ हा घृते भागं शेषमाज्यं क्षिपेत् क्रमात्। ओं हां अग्नये स्वाहा। ओं हां सोमाय स्वाहा। ओं हां अग्नीषोमाभ्यां स्वाहा। उद्घाटनाय नेत्राणां अग्नेर्नेत्रत्रये भुखे
Thus, in the fire, one should offer the portion of ghee, and the remaining ghee in order: 'Om ham to Agni, svaha; Om ham to Soma, svaha; Om ham to Agni and Soma, svaha.' For the opening of the eyes, to the three eyes of Agni.
स्रुवेण घृतपूर्णेन चतुर्थीमाहुतिं यजेत्। ओं हां अग्नये स्विष्टकृते स्वाहा। अभिमन्ञ्य षडङ्गेन बोधयेद्धेनुमुद्रया
With the ladle filled with ghee, one should offer the fourth oblation: 'Om ham to Agni Svishtakrit, svaha.' Meditating with the six limbs, one should awaken with the gesture of the cow.
अवगुण्ठ्य तनुत्रेण रक्षेदाज्यं शराणुना । हृदाज्यविन्दुविक्षेपात् कुर्य्यादभ्युक्ष्य शोधनं
Covering the ghee with the threefold body, one should protect it with an arrow gesture; by casting a drop of ghee from the heart, one should perform the sprinkling and purification.
वक्त्राभिघारसन्धानं वक्त्रैकीकरणं तथा। ओं हां सद्योजाताय स्वाहा। ओं हां वामदेवाय स्वाहा। ओं हां अघोराय स्वाहा। ओं तत्पुरुषाय स्वाहा। ओं हां ईशानाय स्वाहा। इत्येकैकघृताहुत्या कुर्य्याद्वक्त्राभिघारकम्
One should perform the unification of the mouths and their joining: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Aghora, svaha; Om tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Ishana, svaha.' Thus, with each ghee offering, one should perform the touching of the mouths.
औं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां वामदेवाघोराब्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां अघोरतत्पुरुषाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां तत्पुरुषेशानाब्यां स्वाहा। इतीवक्त्रानुसन्धानं मन्त्रैरेभिः क्रमाच्चरेत्। अग्नितो गतया वायुं निर्ऋतादिशिवान्तया
'Om ham to Sadyojata and Vamadeva, svaha; Om ham to Vamadeva and Aghora, svaha; Om ham to Aghora and Tatpurusha, svaha; Om ham to Tatpurusha and Ishana, svaha.' Thus, one should perform the connection of the mouths in order with these mantras, from Agni to Vayu, ending with Shiva.
बक्त्राणापेकतां कुर्य्यात् स्रुवेण घृतधारया। ओं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाघोरतत्पुरुषेसानेभ्यः स्वारा। इतीष्टवक्त्रे वक्त्राणामन्तर्भावस्तदाकृतिः
One should establish the unity of the mouths with a stream of ghee from the ladle: 'Om ham to Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, Ishana, svaha.' Thus, in the desired mouth, the inclusion of the mouths is accomplished in that form.
ईशेन वह्निमभ्यर्च्य दत्वास्त्रेणाहुतित्रयम्। कुर्यात् सर्व्वात्मना नाम शिवाग्निस्त्वं हुताशन
Having worshipped the fire with Ishana, and offered three oblations with the weapon, one should, with full intent, recite the name: 'You are Shiva-fire, O Hutashana.'
हृदार्च्चितौ विसृष्टाग्नौ पितरौ विधिपूरणीं। मूलेन वौषुडन्तेन दद्यात् पूर्णां यथाविधि
When the fire has been worshipped at the heart and released, and the two ancestors have been properly honored, one should offer the complete oblation with the root and the ending 'vauṣuḍa', as prescribed.
