औं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां वामदेवाघोराब्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां अघोरतत्पुरुषाभ्यां स्वाहा। ओं हां तत्पुरुषेशानाब्यां स्वाहा। इतीवक्त्रानुसन्धानं मन्त्रैरेभिः क्रमाच्चरेत्। अग्नितो गतया वायुं निर्ऋतादिशिवान्तया
Om ham, to Sadyojata and Vamadeva, svaha. Om ham, to Vamadeva and Aghora, svaha. Om ham, to Aghora and Tatpurusha, svaha. Om ham, to Tatpurusha and Ishana, svaha. Thus, one should perform the contemplation of the faces with these mantras in sequence, from Agni to Vayu, ending with Nirrti and Shiva.
बक्त्राणापेकतां कुर्य्यात् स्रुवेण घृतधारया। ओं हां सद्योजातवामदेवाघोरतत्पुरुषेसानेभ्यः स्वारा। इतीष्टवक्त्रे वक्त्राणामन्तर्भावस्तदाकृतिः
One should bring together the faces, pouring ghee with the ladle. Om ham, to Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, and Ishana, svaha. Thus, in the desired face, the inclusion of the faces and their forms is established.
ईशेन वह्निमभ्यर्च्य दत्वास्त्रेणाहुतित्रयम्। कुर्यात् सर्व्वात्मना नाम शिवाग्निस्त्वं हुताशन
Having worshipped Agni with Ishana, and offered three oblations with the astra mantra, one should, with full intent, recite the name: 'You are Shiva, the fire, the consumer of offerings.'
हृदार्च्चितौ विसृष्टाग्नौ पितरौ विधिपूरणीं। मूलेन वौषुडन्तेन दद्यात् पूर्णां यथाविधि
Having worshipped in the heart and established the fire, one should offer to the ancestors the complete prescribed oblation, using the root mantra ending with 'vauṣaṭ', as is proper.
ततो हृदम्बुजे साङ्गं ससेनं भासुरं परम् । यजेत् पूर्व्ववदावाह्य प्रार्थ्याज्ञान्तर्प्पयेच्छिवम्
Then, in the lotus of the heart, with all its parts, with the retinue, radiant and supreme, one should invoke and worship as before, and, having sought permission, offer to Shiva.
यागाग्निशिवयोः कृत्वा नाडीसन्धानमात्मना। शक्त्या मूलाणुना होमं कुर्य्यादङ्गैर्द्दशांशतः
Having connected the channels of the sacrificial fire and Shiva within oneself, one should perform the homa with the root mantra and its parts, offering one-tenth portions.
घृतस्य कार्षिको होमः क्षीरस्य मधुनस्तथा। शुक्तिमात्राहुतिर्द्दध्नः प्रसृतिः पायसस्य तु
The offering of ghee should be of one karsha; likewise for milk and honey. For curds, the measure is a shellful; for rice pudding, a prasriti.
यथावत् सर्व्वभक्षाणां लाजानां मुष्टिसम्मितम्। खण्डत्रयन्तु मूलानां फ्लानां स्वप्रमाणतः
For all foods to be offered, and for grains, the measure is a handful; for roots and fruits, three pieces, each according to its own measure.
ग्रासार्द्धंमात्रमन्नानां सूक्ष्माणि पञ्च होमयेत्। इक्षोरापर्व्विकं मानं लतानामङ्गुलद्वयम्
For cooked foods, offer half a mouthful; for fine substances, five portions. For sugarcane, the measure is an upper joint; for creepers, two finger-widths.
पुष्पं पत्रं स्वमानेन समिधां तु दसाङ्गुलम्। चन्द्रचन्दनकाश्मीरकस्तूरीयक्षकर्द्दमान्
Flowers and leaves are to be offered in their own measure; for kindling sticks, ten finger-widths. For camphor, sandalwood, saffron, musk, and resin—
कलायसम्मितानेतान् गुग्गुलुं वदरास्थिवत्। कन्दानामष्टमं भागं जुहुयाद्विधिवत् परम्
These should be measured like a kalaya pea; for guggulu, like the seed of a jujube. For tubers, offer one-eighth part, as is proper, O supreme one.
होमं निर्वर्त्तयेदेवं ब्रह्मवीजपदैस्ततः। घृतेन स्रुचि पूर्णायां निधायाधोमुखं स्रुवम्
Thus, one should perform the homa with the seed syllables of Brahman. Then, placing the ladle face down in the vessel full of ghee—
स्रुगग्रे पुष्पमारोप्य पञ्चाद्वामेन पाणिना। पुनः सव्येन तौ धृत्वा शङ्खसन्निभमुद्रया
Placing a flower at the tip of the ladle, and holding it with the left hand, then again holding both with the right, in the gesture resembling a conch—
समुद्गतोऽर्द्धकायश्च समपादः समुत्थितः। नाभौ तन्मृलमाधाय स्रुगग्रव्यग्रलोचनः
With the body half-raised, feet together and upright, placing that gesture at the navel, with the eyes fixed on the tip of the ladle—
ब्रह्मादिकारणात्यागाद्विनिः सृत्य सुषुम्णया । वामस्तनान्तमानीय तयोर्मूलमतन्द्रितः
Having withdrawn from the causes beginning with Brahma, and led it out through the Sushumna, bringing it to the left breast, one should attentively place the root of both there.
मूलमन्त्रमविस्पष्टं वौषडन्तं समुच्चरेत्। तदग्नौ जुहुयादाज्यं यवसम्मितधारया
One should recite the root mantra indistinctly, ending with 'vauṣaṭ'; then, one should offer ghee into the fire in the measure of a barley grain.
आचामं चन्दनं दत्वा ताम्बूलप्रभृतीनपि। भक्त्या तद्भूतिमावन्द्य विदध्यात्प्रणतिं परं
After sipping water, offering sandalwood, and also betel and the like, one should, with devotion, honor that glory and perform the supreme salutation.
ततो वह्णिं समब्यर्च्य फडन्तास्त्रेण संवरान्। संहारमुद्रयाहृत्य क्षमस्वेत्यभिधाय च
Then, having worshipped the fire, using the astra mantra ending with 'phat', and performing the sealing gesture of destruction, one should say, 'Forgive me.'
भासुरान् परिधीस्तांश्च पूरकेण हृदाऽणुना । श्रद्ध्या परयात्मीये स्थापयेत् हृदम्बुजे
One should establish those radiant enclosing fires, using the breath, the heart, and the subtle self, with supreme faith, within the lotus of the heart.
सर्वपाकाग्रमादाय कृत्वा मण्डलकद्वयम् । अन्तर्वहिर्बलिं दद्यादाग्नेय्यां कुण्डसन्निधौ
Taking the foremost of all offerings, and having made two circles, one should offer the oblation both inside and outside, in the presence of the fire-pit dedicated to Agni.
ओं हां रुद्रेभ्यः स्वाहा पूर्वे मातृब्यो दक्षिणे तथा। वारुणे हां गणेभ्यश्च स्वाहा तेभ्यस्त्वयं बलिः
Om hām, to the Rudras, svāhā; in the east, to the Mothers, and likewise in the south; in the west, hām, to the hosts of Varuṇa; svāhā—this oblation is for them.
उत्तरे हाञ्च यक्षेभ्य ईशाने हां ग्रहेभ्य उ । अग्नौ हामसुरेभ्यस्च रक्षोब्यो नैर्ऋते बलिः
In the north, hām, to the Yakṣas; in the northeast, hām, to the Grahas; in the fire, hām, to the Asuras; and in the southwest, the oblation is for the Rākṣasas.
वायव्ये हाञ्च नागेभ्यो नक्षत्रेभ्यश्च मध्यतः। हां राशिभ्यः स्वाहा वह्नौ विश्वेभ्यो नैर्ऋते तथा
In the northwest, hām, to the Nāgas; in the center, to the Nakṣatras; hām, to the Rāśis, svāhā; in the fire, to all, and likewise in the southwest.
वारुण्यां क्षेत्रपालाय अन्तर्बलिरुदाहृतः। द्वितीये मण्डले वाह्ये इन्द्रायाग्नियमाय च
In the west, the inner offering is declared for the Kṣetrapāla; in the second, outer circle, for Indra, Agni, and Yama.
नैर्ऋताय जलेशाय वायवे धनरक्षिणे। ईशानाय च पूर्वादौ हीशाने ब्रह्मणे नमः
For Nairṛta, for the lord of waters, for Vāyu, for the guardian of wealth, for Īśāna at the beginning of the east, and for Īśāna as Brahman—obeisance.
नैर्ऋते विष्णवे स्वाहा वायसादेर्वहिर्बलिः। बलिद्वयगतान्मन्त्रान् संहारमुद्रयाऽऽत्मनि
To Nairṛta, to Viṣṇu, svāhā; the outer oblation is for the crows and others; the mantras pertaining to the two offerings are to be dissolved within oneself with the gesture of withdrawal.
ईश्वर उवाच अर्घपात्रकरो यायादग्न्यागारं सुसंवृतः। यागोपकरणं सर्वं दिव्यदृष्ट्या च कल्पयेत्
Īśvara said: Bearing the arghya vessel, one should go to the fire-house, well-enclosed, and prepare all the ritual implements with divine vision.
उदङ्मुखः कुण्डमीक्षेत् प्रोक्षणं ताडनं कुशैः। विदध्यादस्त्रमन्त्रेण वर्म्मणाभ्युक्षणं मतं
Facing north, one should inspect the fire-pit, sprinkle and strike it with kuśa grass, perform the prescribed acts with the armor-mantra, and sprinkle with the armor as is proper.
खड्गेन खातमुद्धारं पूरणं समतामपि। कुर्वीत वर्म्मणा सेकं कुट्टनन्तु शरात्मना
With a sword, one should remove the excavated earth, fill it, and level it; one should sprinkle with the armor, and pound with the arrow-mantra.
सम्मार्ज्जनं समालेपं कलारूपप्रकल्पनम्। त्रिसूत्रीपरिधानं च वर्म्मणाभ्यर्च्चनं सदा
One should always sweep, smear, and arrange the forms of the arts, put on the triple thread, and worship with the armor.
