यक्षिण्यः स्तब्धदीर्घाक्षाः शाकिन्यो वक्रदृष्टयः । पिङ्गाक्षाः स्युर्म्महारम्या रूपिण्योप्सरसः सदा

The yakshinis have rigid, elongated eyes; the shakinis gaze askew; with tawny eyes, exceedingly lovely in form, they are always like celestial nymphs.

साक्षमाली त्रिशूली च नन्दीशो द्वारपालकः। thumb|महाकाल महाकालोसिमुण्डी स्याच्छूलखेटकवांस्तथा

With a rosary and trident, Nandi serves as the gatekeeper; Mahakala, with a severed head, holds a spear and a mace.

कृशो भृङ्गी च नृत्यन् वै कूष्माण्डस्थूलखर्ववान्। गजगोकर्णवक्त्राद्या वीरभद्रादयो गणाः

Thin Bhringi, dancing, along with the Kusmanda, who is stout and dwarfish; those with elephant, cow, and other animal faces—these are the hosts led by Virabhadra.

घण्टाकर्णोष्टदशदोः पापरोगं विदारयन्। वज्रासिदण्डचक्रेषुमुषलाङ्कुशमुद्गरान्

With bell-ears, ten lips, and ten arms, tearing apart sin and disease, they wield vajras, swords, staffs, discs, pestles, goads, and clubs.

दक्षिणे तर्जनीं खेटं शक्तिं मुण्डञ्च पाशकम्। चापं घण्टा कुठारश्च द्वाभ्याञ्चैव त्रिशूलकम्

In the right hand, they hold a threatening finger, a shield, a spear, a skull, and a noose; a bow, a bell, and an axe; and in two hands, a trident.

घण्टामालाकुलो देवो विस्फोटकविमर्दनः

The god, adorned with a garland of bells, crushes and destroys with explosive force.

भगवानुवाच ससप्ताश्वे सैकचक्रे रथे सूर्य्यो द्विपद्मधृक्। मसीभाजनलेखन्यौ बिभ्रत्कुण्डी तु दक्षिणे

The Blessed Lord said: Surya, standing in a chariot with seven horses and a single wheel, holding two lotuses, carries an inkpot and a stylus, and a water pot in his right hand.

वामे तु पिङ्गलो द्वारि दण्डभृत् स रवेर्गणः। बालव्यजनधारिण्यौ पार्श्वे राज्ञी च निष्प्रभा

At the left stands Pingala at the door, holding a staff, one of the Sun's attendants; on either side are two women with fly-whisks, and the queen, devoid of radiance.

अथवाश्वसमारूढः कार्य्य एकस्तु भास्करः। वरदा द्व्यब्जिनः सर्वे दिक्पालास्त्रकराः क्रमात्

Alternatively, Bhaskara alone may be depicted riding a horse; all the guardians of the directions, holding weapons, are two-lotus-handed and bestow boons, arranged in order.

मुद्गरशूलचक्राव्जभृतोग्न्यादिविदिक्‌स्थिताः। सूर्य्यार्यमादिरक्षोन्ताश्चतुर्हस्ता द्विषड्दले

Standing in the directions, they hold hammers, tridents, discs, and lotuses; Surya, Aryaman, and the other protectors, four-armed, are placed on the twelve-petaled lotus.

वरुणः सूर्यनामा च सहस्रांशुस्तथापरः । धाता तपनसञ्ज्ञश्च सविताथ गभस्तिकः

Varuna, Surya by name, and another called Sahasramsu; Dhata, named Tapana, Savita, and Gabhastika.

रविश्चैवाथ पर्ज्जन्यस्त्वष्टा मित्रोथ विष्णुकः। मेषादिराशिसंस्थाश्च मार्गादिकार्त्तिकान्तकाः

Ravi, Parjanya, Tvashta, Mitra, and Vishnuka; those established in the zodiac signs from Aries onward, from Margashirsha to Karttika.

कृष्णो रक्तो मनाग्रक्तः पीतः पाण्डरकः सितः। कपिलः पीतवर्णश्च शुकाभो धवलस्तथा

Black, red, slightly red, yellow, pale, white, tawny, golden-yellow, parrot-green, and also bright white.

धूम्रो नीलः क्रमाद्वर्णाः शक्तयः केशराग्रगाः। इडा सुषुम्णा विश्वार्च्चिरिन्दुसञ्ज्ञा प्रमर्दिनी

Smoky and blue—these are the colors in order; the powers at the tips of the rays are Ida, Sushumna, Vishvarchi, Indu by name, and Pramardini.

ग्रहर्षणी महाकाली कपिला च प्रबोधनी। नीलाम्बरा घनान्तस्था अमृताख्या च शक्तयः

Graharshani, Mahakali, Kapila, and Prabodhini; Nilambara, dwelling in the clouds, and Amrita by name—these are the powers.

वरुणादेश्च तद्वर्णाः केशराग्रेषु विन्यसेत्। तेजश्चण्डोमहावक्रो द्विभुजः पद्मखड्गभृत्

From Varuna onward, their colors are to be placed at the tips of the rays; Tejas, fierce and great, two-armed, holds a lotus and a sword.

कुण्डिकाकजप्यमालीन्दुः कुजः शक्त्यक्षमालिकः। बुधश्चापाक्षपाणिः स्याज्जीवः कुण्ड्यक्षमालिकः

Kundika, with a rosary and a moon, Kuja with a spear and a rosary; Budha holds a bow and a rosary, Jiva with a water pot and a rosary.

शुक्रः कुण्ड्यक्षमाली स्यात् किङ्किणीसूत्रवाञ्छनिः । अर्द्धचन्द्रधरो राहुः केतुः खड्गी च दीपभृत्

Śukra is adorned with a rosary of pots, wears a string of bells, and desires a necklace; Rāhu bears a half-moon, Ketu wields a sword, and carries a lamp.

अनन्तस्तक्षकः कर्क्कः पद्मो महाब्जः शङ्खकः। कुलिकः सूत्रिणः सर्वे फणवक्त्रा महाप्रभाः ।। इन्द्रो वज्री गजारूढश्लागगोग्निश्च शक्तिमान्। यमो दण्डी च महिषे नैर्ऋतः खड्गवान् करे

Ananta, Takṣaka, Karkka, Padma, Mahābja, Śaṅkhaka, and Kulika—all these serpents are garlanded, possess hoods, and shine with great brilliance.

मकरे वरुणः पाशी वायुर्ध्वजधरो मृगे। गदी कुवेरो मेषस्थ ईशानश्च जटी वृषे

In the sign of Makara, Varuṇa holds a noose; Vāyu bears a banner; in the sign of Mṛga, Kubera wields a mace and sits upon a ram; Īśāna, with matted hair, rides a bull.

द्विबाहवो लोकपाला विश्वकर्म्माक्षसूत्रभृत्। हनूमान् वज्रहस्तः स्यात् पद्भ्यां सम्पीडिताश्रयः

The guardians of the worlds are two-armed; Viśvakarman holds a rosary of dice; Hanūmān bears a thunderbolt in his hand and is supported by pressure from his feet.

विणाहस्ताः किन्नराः स्युर्मालाविद्याधराश्च खे । दुर्बलाङ्गाः पिशाचाः स्युर्वेताला विकृताननाः

Kinnaras hold vīnas; Vidyādharas wear garlands and dwell in the sky; Piśācas are weak-limbed; Vetālas have distorted faces.

क्षेत्रपालाः शूलवन्तः प्रेता महोदराः कृशाः

The guardians of the fields carry spears; the ghosts are large-bellied and emaciated.

भगवानुवाच योगिन्यष्टाष्टकं वक्ष्ये ऐन्द्रादीशान्ततः क्रमात्। अक्षोभ्या रूक्षकर्णी च राक्षसी कृपणाक्षया

The Blessed Lord spoke: I shall describe the eight groups of yoginīs, beginning with Indra and ending with Īśāna, in order: Akṣobhyā, Rūkṣakarṇī, Rākṣasī, and Kṛpaṇākṣayā.

पिङ्गाक्षी च क्षया क्षेमा इला लीलालया तथा। लोला लक्ता बलाकेशी लालसा विमला पुनः

Piṅgākṣī, Kṣayā, Kṣemā, Ilā, Līlālayā, Lolā, Laktā, Balākeśī, Lālasā, and Vimalā again.

हुताशा च विशालाक्षी हुङ्कारा वडवामुखी। महाक्रूरा क्रोधना तु भयङ्करी महानना

Hutāśā, Viśālākṣī, Huṅkārā, Vaḍavāmukhī, Mahākrūrā, Krodhanā, Bhayaṅkarī, and Mahānanā.

सर्वज्ञा तला तारा ऋग्वेदा तु हयानना। साराख्या रुद्रसङ्ग्रही सम्बरा तालजङ्घिका

Sarvajñā, Talā, Tārā, Ṛgvedā, Hayānanā, Sārākhyā, Rudrasaṅgrahī, Sambarā, and Tālajaṅghikā.

रक्ताक्षी सुप्रसिद्धा तु विद्युज्जिह्वा कारङ्किणी। मेघनादा प्रचण्डोग्रा कालकर्णी वरप्रदा

Raktākṣī, Suprasiddhā, Vidyujjihvā, Kāraṅkiṇī, Meghanādā, Pracaṇḍogrā, Kālakarṇī, and Varapradā.

चन्द्रा चन्द्रावली चैव प्रपञ्चा प्रलयान्तिका। शिशुवक्त्रा पिशाची च पिशिताशा च लोलुपा

Candrā, Candrāvalī, Prapañcā, Pralayāntikā, Śiśuvaktrā, Piśācī, Piśitāśā, and Lolupā.
