सुवर्णशतकण्ठीनामरोमाणां स्वलङ्कृताम्। परिचर्यासु दक्षाणां प्रददौ पुष्करेक्षणः
He gave women adorned with golden necklaces, without blemish, well-ornamented, skilled in service, the lotus-eyed one bestowed them.
पृष्ठ्यानामपि चाश्वानां बाह्लिकानां जनार्दनः। ददौ शतसहस्राख्यं कन्याधनमनुत्तमम्
Janardana also gave, as a bridal gift, a hundred thousand excellent Bahlika horses, famed for their strength and beauty.
कृताकृतस्य मुख्यस्य कनकस्याग्निवर्चसः। मनुष्यभारान्दाशार्हो ददौ दश जनार्दनः
Janardana, of the Dasharha line, gave ten loads of the finest gold, both wrought and unwrought, shining like fire, fit for men.
गजानां तु प्रभिन्नानां त्रिधा प्रस्रवतां मदम्। गिरिकूटनिकाशानां समरेष्वनिवर्तिनाम्
He gave elephants, rutting and dripping with threefold streams of ichor, resembling mountain peaks and unyielding in battle.
क्लृप्तानां पटुघण्टानां चारूणां हेममालिनाम्। हस्त्यारोहैरुपेतानां सहस्रं साहसप्रियः
A thousand elephants, adorned with golden garlands, skilled and equipped with sharp bells, and mounted by daring riders, were prepared.
रामः पाणिग्रहणिकं ददौ पार्थाय लाङ्गली। प्रीयमाणो हलधरः संबन्धं प्रति मानयन्
Rāma, the wielder of the plough, pleased and honoring the alliance, gave the marriage gift to Pārtha with his own hand.
स महाधनरत्नौघो वस्त्रकम्बलफेनवान्। महागजमहाग्राहः पताकाशैवलाकुलः
That great wealth, a flood of treasures and gems, with garments and blankets like foam, and mighty elephants like great crocodiles, was adorned with banners like clusters of waterweeds.
पाण्डुसागरमाविद्धः प्रविवेश महाधनः। पूर्णमापूरयंस्तेषां द्विषच्छोकावहोऽभवत्
That immense wealth, undiminished, entered the ocean of the Pāṇḍavas, filling it to the brim and bringing sorrow to their enemies.
प्रतिजग्राह तत्सर्वं धर्मराजो युधिष्टिरः। पूजयामास तांश्चैव वृष्ण्यन्धकमहारथान्
Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira accepted all of it and honored those great chariot-warriors of the Vṛṣṇis and Andhakas.
ते समेता महात्मानः कुरुवृष्ण्यन्धकोत्तमाः। विजह्रुरमरावासे नराः सुकृतिनो यथा
Those great-souled men, the foremost among the Kurus, Vṛṣṇis, and Andhakas, rejoiced together in that place like the blessed in the abode of the gods.
तत्रतत्र महानादैरुत्कृष्टतलनादितैः। यथायोगं यथाप्रीति विजह्रुः कुरुवृष्णयः
Here and there, with great sounds and the resounding clapping of hands, the Kurus and Vṛṣṇis enjoyed themselves according to their pleasure and affection.
एवमुत्तमवीर्यास्ते विहृत्य दिवसान्बहून्। पूजिताः कुरुभिर्जग्मुः पुनर्द्वारवतीं प्रति
Thus, those of supreme valor spent many days in enjoyment, and, honored by the Kurus, they departed again for Dvāravatī.
रामं पुरुस्कृत्य ययुर्वृष्म्यन्धकमहारथाः। रत्नान्यादाय शुभ्राणि दत्तानि कुरुसत्तमैः
Led by Rāma, the great chariot-warriors of the Vṛṣṇis and Andhakas departed, taking with them the splendid jewels given by the best of the Kurus.
रामः सुभद्रां संपूज्य परिष्वज्य स्वसां तदा। न्यासेति द्रौपदीमुक्त्वा परिधाय महाबलः
Rāma then honored his sister Subhadrā, embracing her, and, after telling Draupadī to remain, the mighty one departed.
पितृष्वसायाश्चरणावभिवाद्य ययौ तदा। तस्मिन्काले पृथा प्रीता पूजयामास तं तथा
At that time, he bowed at the feet of his paternal aunt and departed; pleased, Kuntī honored him accordingly.
स वृष्णिवीरः पार्थैश्च पौरैश्च परमार्चितः। ययौ द्वारवतीं रामो वृष्णिभिः सह संयुतः
That hero of the Vṛṣṇis, greatly honored by the Pāṇḍavas and the citizens, Rāma went to Dvāravatī together with the Vṛṣṇis.
वासुदेवस्तु पार्थेन तत्रैव सह भारत। `चतुस्त्रिंशदहोरात्रं रममाणो महाबलः।' उवास नगरे रम्ये शक्रप्रस्थे महात्मना
But Vāsudeva, O Bhārata, remained there with Pārtha for thirty-four days, delighting in the beautiful city of Indraprastha with the great-souled one.
व्यचरद्यमुनातीरे मृगयां स महायशाः। मृगान्विध्यन्वराहांश्च रेमे सार्धं किरीटिना
That illustrious one wandered along the banks of the Yamunā, hunting; together with the diademed one, he delighted in shooting deer and boars.
ततः सुभद्रा सौभद्रं केशवस्य प्रिया स्वसा। जयन्तमिव पौलोमी ख्यातिमन्तमजीजनत्
Then Subhadrā, the beloved sister of Keśava, gave birth to a son, famed like Jayanta, the son of Paulomī.
दीर्घबाहुं महोरस्कं वृषभाक्षमरिन्दमम्। सुभद्रा सुषुवे वीरमभिमन्युं नरर्षभम्
Subhadrā bore a hero, Abhimanyu, long-armed, broad-chested, bull-eyed, and destroyer of foes, a foremost man among men.
अभीश्च मन्युमांश्चैव ततस्तमरिमर्दनम्। अभिमन्युरिति प्राहुरार्जुनिं पुरुषर्षभम्
Because of his fearlessness and wrath, they called that slayer of enemies, the son of Arjuna, by the name Abhimanyu.
स सात्वत्यामतिरथः संबभूव धनञ्जयात्। मखे निर्मथनेनेव शमीगर्भाद्धुताशनः
That great chariot-warrior was born to Dhanañjaya from Sātvati, just as the sacrificial fire is produced from the arani wood during a ritual.
यस्मिञ्जाते महातेजाः कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। अयुतं गा द्विजातिभ्यः प्रादान्निष्कांश्च भारत
When the mighty Yudhishthira, son of Kunti, was born, he gave ten thousand cows to the twice-born, along with gold, O Bharata.
दयितो वासुदेवस्य बाल्यात्प्रभृति चाभवत्। पितॄणां चैव सर्वेषां प्रजानामिव चन्द्रमाः
From childhood, he became dear to Vasudeva, and to all his fathers, like the moon to all living beings.
जन्मप्रभृति कृष्णश्च चक्रे तस्य क्रियाः शुभाः। स चापि ववृधे बालः शुक्लपक्षे यथा शशी
From birth, Krishna performed auspicious rites for him; and the boy grew, like the waxing moon in the bright fortnight.
चतुष्पादं दशविधं धनुर्वेदमरिन्दमः। अर्जुनाद्वेद वेदज्ञः सकलं दिव्यमानुषम्
The subduer of foes, Arjuna, learned the fourfold and tenfold divisions of archery, mastering all celestial and human weapons from the knower of the Vedas.
विज्ञानेष्वपि चास्त्राणां सौष्ठवे च महाबलः। क्रियास्वपि च सर्वासु विशेषानभ्यशिक्षयत्
In the science of weapons, in skill, and in all practices, the mighty one received special instruction in every aspect.
आगमे च प्रयोगे च चक्रे तुल्यमिवात्मना। तुतोष पुत्रं सौभद्रं प्रेक्षमाणो धनञ्जयः
In theory and in application, he made himself equal; Dhananjaya was pleased, watching his son Saubhadra.
सर्वसंहननोपेतं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम्। दुर्धर्षमृषभस्कन्धं व्यात्ताननमिवोरगम्
Endowed with all bodily proportions, marked by all auspicious signs, hard to overcome, with shoulders like a bull, and a face like an open-mouthed serpent.
सिंहदर्पं महेष्वासं मत्तमातङ्गविक्रमम्। मेघदुन्दुभिनिर्घोषं पूर्णचन्द्रनिभाननम्
With the pride of a lion, a great archer, the stride of a maddened elephant, a voice like thunderclouds and drums, and a face shining like the full moon.
