लोकस्य विदितं ह्यद्य पूर्वं विपृथुना यथा। सान्त्वयित्वाभ्यनुज्ञातो भद्रया सह सङ्गतः
Today, as before with Viprithu, it became known to the people; after consoling and permitting, he joined with Bhadrā.
दित्सता सोदरां तस्मै पतत्त्रिवरकेतुना। अर्हते पार्थिवेन्द्राय पार्थायायतलोचनाम्
Desiring to give his sister to the worthy lord of kings, the one with the best banner, he gave the wide-eyed Partha to Arjuna.
सत्कृत्य पाण्डवश्रेष्ठं प्रेषयामास चार्जुनम्। भद्रया सह बीभत्सुः प्रापितो वृजिनं पुरम्
Honoring the foremost Pandava, he sent Arjuna; together with Bhadrā, Bibhatsu was brought to the city of Vṛjina.
इति पौरजनाः सर्वे वदन्ति च समन्ततः।' श्रुत्वा तु पुण्डरीकाक्षः संप्राप्तं स्वपुरोत्तमम्
Thus all the citizens everywhere spoke; hearing this, the lotus-eyed one arrived at his foremost city.
अर्जुनं पाण्डवश्रेष्ठमिन्द्रप्रस्थगतं तथा। `यियासुः खाण्डवप्रस्थममन्त्रयत केशवः
Arjuna, the foremost Pandava, had gone to Indraprastha; desiring to go to Khāṇḍavaprastha, Keśava consulted.
पूर्वं सत्कृत्य राजानमाहुकं मधुसूदनः। तथा विपृथुमक्रूरं संकर्षणविडूरथौ
First, Madhusūdana honored King Āhuka; likewise, Viprithu, Akrūra, and Sankarṣaṇa and Vidūratha.
मन्त्रयामास तैः सार्धं पुरस्तादभिमानितैः। संकर्षणेन संमन्त्र्य ह्यनुज्ञातो महामनाः
He consulted with them, those honored in advance; after conferring with Sankarṣaṇa, the great-minded one was permitted.
संप्रीतः प्रीयमाणेन वृष्णिराज्ञा जनार्दनः। अभिमन्त्र्याभ्यनुज्ञातो योजयामास वाहिनीम्
Delighted, Janārdana, with the Vrishni king's approval, after consultation and permission, arranged the army.
ततस्तु यानान्यासाद्य दाशार्हाणां यशस्विनाम्। सिंहनादः प्रहृष्टानां क्षणेन समपद्यत
Then, after mounting the vehicles of the illustrious Dasharhas, a lion-like roar arose from the delighted warriors in an instant.
योजयन्तः सदश्वांस्तु यानयुग्यं रथांस्तथा। गजांश्च परमप्रीतः समपद्यन्त वृष्णयः
Yoking steeds to their chariots and harnessing their best vehicles, the Vrishnis, filled with great joy, also readied their elephants.
वृष्ण्यन्धकमहामात्रैः सह वीरैर्महारथैः। भ्रातृभिश्च कुमारैश्च योधैश्च शतशो वृतः
Surrounded by the chief ministers of the Vrishnis and Andhakas, by mighty warriors, brothers, princes, and hundreds of soldiers,
सैन्येन महता शौरिरभिगुप्तः समन्ततः। तत्र दानपतिः श्रीमाञ्जगाम स महायशाः
Satyaki, guarded on all sides by a great army, that illustrious lord of gifts, famed in the world, set forth.
अक्रूरो वृष्णिवीराणां सेनापतिररिन्दमः। अनाधृष्टिर्महातेजा उद्धवश्च महायशाः
Akrura, subduer of foes, was the commander of the Vrishni heroes; Anadhṛṣṭa, of great energy, and Uddhava, renowned for his wisdom, were also present.
साक्षाद्वृहस्पतेः शिष्यो महाबुद्धिर्महामनाः। सत्यकः सात्यकिश्चैव कृतवर्मा च सात्वतः
Uddhava, the direct disciple of Brihaspati, possessed great intellect and noble mind; Satyaka, Satyaki, and Kṛtavarma of the Sātvata clan were there as well.
प्रद्युम्नश्चैव साम्बश्च निशङ्कुः शङ्कुरेव च। चारुदेष्णश्च विक्रान्तो झिल्ली विपृथुरेव च
Pradyumna and Sāmba, Nishaṅku and Shaṅkura, the valiant Charudeṣṇa, Jhillī, and Vipṛthu were also among them.
सारणश्च महाबाहुर्गदश्च विदुषां वरः। एते चान्ये च बहवो वृष्णिभोजान्धकास्तथा
Sāraṇa, mighty-armed, and Gada, foremost among the wise, and many others—Vrishnis, Bhojas, and Andhakas—were present as well.
आजग्मः खाण्डवप्रस्थमादाय हरणं बहु। `उपहारं समादाय पृथुवृष्णिपुरोगमाः
They arrived at Khandavaprastha, bringing many gifts, led by the foremost among the Vrishnis.
प्रययुः सिंहनादेन सुभध्रामवलोककाः। ते त्वदीर्घेण कालेन कृष्णेन सह यादवाः। पुरमासाद्य पार्थानां परां प्रीतिमवाप्नुवन्
Proceeding with lion-like roars, those who came to see Subhadra, together with Krishna and the Yadavas, reached the city of the Parthas after a long journey and attained great joy.
ततो युधिष्ठिरो सजा श्रुत्वा माघवमागतम्। प्रतिग्रहार्थं कृष्णस्य यमौ प्रास्थापयत्तदा
Then Yudhishthira, upon hearing that Māghava had arrived, sent the two sons of Yamā for the reception of Krishna.
ताभ्यां प्रतिगृहीतं तु वृष्णिचक्रं महर्द्धिमत्। विवेश खाण्डवप्रस्थं पताकाध्वजशोभितम्
By those two, the illustrious Vrishni host was received and entered Khandavaprastha, adorned with banners and flags.
संमृष्टसिक्तपन्थानं पुष्पप्रकरशोभितम्। चन्दनस्य रसैः शीतैः पुम्यगन्धैर्निषेवितम्
The roads were swept and sprinkled, adorned with heaps of flowers, and perfumed with the cool scents of sandalwood.
दह्यताऽगुरुणा चैव देशे देशे सुगन्धिना। हृष्टपुष्टजनाकीर्णं वणिग्भिरुपशोभितम्
In various places, fragrant aloeswood was burned; the city was filled with joyful, prosperous people and beautified by merchants.
प्रतिपेदे महाबाहुः सह रामेण केशवः। वृष्ण्यन्धकैस्तथा भोजैः समेतः पुरुषोत्तमः
The mighty-armed Krishna, together with Rāma, entered, joined by the Vrishnis, Andhakas, and Bhojas—the supreme among men.
संपूज्यमानः पौरैश्च ब्राह्मणैश्च सहस्रशः। विवेश भवनं राज्ञः पुरन्दरगृहोपमम्
Honored by thousands of citizens and Brahmins, he entered the king's palace, which resembled the house of Indra.
युधिष्ठिरस्तु रामेण समागच्छद्यथाविधि। मूर्ध्नि केशवमाघ्राय बाहुभ्यां परिषस्वजे
Yudhishthira, meeting Rāma as prescribed, embraced Krishna, smelling his head, and clasped him with his arms.
तं प्रीयमाणो गोविन्दो विनयेनाभिपूजयन्। भीमं च पुरुषव्याघ्रं विधिवत्प्रत्यपूजयत्
Govinda, pleased, honored him with humility, and duly welcomed Bhima, the tiger among men.
तांश्च वृष्ण्यन्धकश्रेष्ठान्कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। प्रतिजग्राह सत्कारैर्यथाविधि यथागतम्
Yudhishthira, son of Kunti, received those foremost among the Vrishnis and Andhakas with proper honors, according to custom and as befitted their arrival.
गुरुवत्पूजयामास कांश्चित्कांश्चिद्वयस्यवत्। कांश्चिदभ्यवदत्प्रेम्णा कैश्चिदप्यभिवादितः
He worshipped some as elders, others as friends, and greeted some with affection, while he himself was respectfully greeted by others.
ततः पृथा च पार्थाश्च मुदिताः कृष्णया सह। पुण्डरीकाक्षमासाद्य बभूवुर्मुदितेन्द्रियाः
Then Kunti, the sons of Pritha, and Krishna, filled with joy, became delighted in their senses upon meeting the lotus-eyed one.
हर्षादभिगतौ दृष्ट्वा संकर्षणजनार्दनौ। बन्धुमन्तं पृथा पार्थं युधिष्ठिरममन्यत
Seeing Sankarshana and Janardana approach joyfully, Kunti considered Yudhishthira, her son, to be truly blessed with kinsmen.
