परिष्वज्यावदत्प्रीत्या निःसपत्नोस्तु ते पतिः। `वीरसूर्भव भद्रे त्वं भव भर्तृप्रिया तथा
Embracing her with affection, she said, 'May your husband never be surpassed; O Bhadrā, be the mother of heroes and beloved of your husband.'
ओजसा निर्मिता बह्वीरुवाच परमाशिषः।' तथैव मुदिता भद्रा तामुवाच तथास्त्विति
With great vigor, she spoke supreme blessings; Bhadrā, delighted, replied, 'So be it.'
ततः सुभद्रां वार्ष्णेयी परिष्वज्य शुभाननाम्। अङ्के निवेश्य मुदिता वसुदेवं प्रशस्य च
Then Vārṣṇeyī Subhadrā, of auspicious face, embraced her, seated her on her lap with joy, and praised Vasudeva.
ततः किलकिलाशब्दः क्षणेन समपद्यत। हर्षादानर्तयोधानामासाद्य वृजिनं पुरम्
Then, in a moment, there arose a great clamor of joy from the delighted warriors as they reached the city of Vṛjina.
देवपुत्रप्रकाशास्ते जाम्बूनदमयध्वजाः। पृष्ठतोऽनुययुः पार्थं पुरुहूतमिवामराः
Shining like sons of the gods, with banners of gold, they followed Pārtha from behind, as the immortals follow Puruhūta.
गोभिरुष्ट्रैः सदश्वैश्च युक्तानि बहुला जनाः। ददृशुर्यानमुख्यानि दाशार्हपुरवासिनाम्
Many people saw the foremost chariots of the Dāśārha city dwellers, drawn by oxen, camels, and horses.
ततः पुरवरे यूनां पुंसां वाच उदीरिताः। अर्जुने प्रतियाति स्म अश्रूयन्त समन्ततः
Then, in that excellent city, the voices of young men were heard all around, speaking about Arjuna as he returned.
प्रवासादागतं पार्थं दृष्ट्वा स्वमिव बान्धवम्। सोऽभिगम्य नरश्रेष्ठो दाशार्हशतसंवृतः
Seeing Pārtha, returned from exile, as if he were their own kinsman, that best of men approached, surrounded by hundreds of Dāśārhas.
पौरैः पुरवरं प्रीत्या परया चाभिनन्दितः। प्राप्य चान्तःपुरद्वारमवरुह्य नरर्षभः
Welcomed with great affection by the citizens of the excellent city, that bull among men, having reached the inner gate, dismounted.
ववन्दे धौम्यमासाद्य मातरं च धनञ्जयः। स्पृष्ट्वा च चरणौ राज्ञो भीमस्य च धनञ्जयः
Dhanañjaya greeted Dhaumya and his mother; then, touching the feet of the king and of Bhīma, Dhanañjaya paid his respects.
यमाभ्यां वन्दितो हृष्टः सस्वजे तौ ननन्द च। ब्राह्मणप्रमुखान्सर्वान्भ्रातृभिः सह सङ्गतः
Honored by the two Yamās, he embraced them joyfully and rejoiced; together with his brothers, he met all the Brahmins and others.
यथार्हं मानयामास पौरजानपदानपि। तत्रस्थान्यनुयातानि तीर्थान्यायतनानि च
He duly respected the citizens and people of the land; he also visited the holy places and shrines present there.
निवेदयामास तदा राज्ञे सर्वं स्वनुष्ठितम्। भ्रातृभ्यश्चैव सर्वेभ्यः कथयामास भारत
Then he reported everything accomplished to the king; and to all his brothers, O Bharata, he narrated everything.
श्रुत्वा सर्वं महाप्राज्ञो धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः। पुरस्तादेव तेषां तु पूजयामास चार्जुनम्
Hearing it all, the wise king Yudhishthira, the lord of dharma, honored Arjuna in their presence.
पाण्डवेन यथार्हं तु पूजार्हेण सुपूजितः। न्यविशच्चाभ्यनुज्ञातो राज्ञा तुष्टो यशस्विना
Duly honored by the Pandava with the proper respect, he sat down, permitted by the illustrious king, content.
तामदीनां सुपूजार्हां सुभद्रां प्रीतिवर्धिनीम्। साक्षाच्छ्रियममन्यन्त पार्थाः कृष्णसहोदराम्
The Parthas regarded Subhadra, worthy of great honor and increasing their joy, the sister of Krishna, as prosperity incarnate.
गुरूणां श्वशुराणां च देवराणां तथैव च। सुभद्रा स्वेन वृत्तेन बभूव परमप्रिया
By her own conduct, Subhadra became most dear to the elders, fathers-in-law, and brothers-in-law alike.
ततस्ते हृष्टमनसः पाण्डवेया महारथाः। कुन्ती च परमप्रीता कृष्णा च सततं तथा
Then the Pandava heroes, their hearts delighted, and Kunti, greatly pleased, as well as Krishna, always so.
अथ शुश्राव निर्वृत्ते वृष्णीनां परमोत्सवे। अर्जुनेन हृतां भद्रां शङ्खचक्रगदाधरः
Then, after the grand festival of the Vrishnis had concluded, the bearer of the conch, discus, and mace heard that Bhadrā had been taken by Arjuna.
पुरस्तादेव पौराणां संशयः समजायत। जानता वासुदेवेन वासितो भरतर्षभः
Even before the citizens, a doubt arose; but knowing, Vasudeva reassured the foremost of the Bharatas.
लोकस्य विदितं ह्यद्य पूर्वं विपृथुना यथा। सान्त्वयित्वाभ्यनुज्ञातो भद्रया सह सङ्गतः
Today, as before with Viprithu, it became known to the people; after consoling and permitting, he joined with Bhadrā.
दित्सता सोदरां तस्मै पतत्त्रिवरकेतुना। अर्हते पार्थिवेन्द्राय पार्थायायतलोचनाम्
Desiring to give his sister to the worthy lord of kings, the one with the best banner, he gave the wide-eyed Partha to Arjuna.
सत्कृत्य पाण्डवश्रेष्ठं प्रेषयामास चार्जुनम्। भद्रया सह बीभत्सुः प्रापितो वृजिनं पुरम्
Honoring the foremost Pandava, he sent Arjuna; together with Bhadrā, Bibhatsu was brought to the city of Vṛjina.
इति पौरजनाः सर्वे वदन्ति च समन्ततः।' श्रुत्वा तु पुण्डरीकाक्षः संप्राप्तं स्वपुरोत्तमम्
Thus all the citizens everywhere spoke; hearing this, the lotus-eyed one arrived at his foremost city.
अर्जुनं पाण्डवश्रेष्ठमिन्द्रप्रस्थगतं तथा। `यियासुः खाण्डवप्रस्थममन्त्रयत केशवः
Arjuna, the foremost Pandava, had gone to Indraprastha; desiring to go to Khāṇḍavaprastha, Keśava consulted.
पूर्वं सत्कृत्य राजानमाहुकं मधुसूदनः। तथा विपृथुमक्रूरं संकर्षणविडूरथौ
First, Madhusūdana honored King Āhuka; likewise, Viprithu, Akrūra, and Sankarṣaṇa and Vidūratha.
मन्त्रयामास तैः सार्धं पुरस्तादभिमानितैः। संकर्षणेन संमन्त्र्य ह्यनुज्ञातो महामनाः
He consulted with them, those honored in advance; after conferring with Sankarṣaṇa, the great-minded one was permitted.
संप्रीतः प्रीयमाणेन वृष्णिराज्ञा जनार्दनः। अभिमन्त्र्याभ्यनुज्ञातो योजयामास वाहिनीम्
Delighted, Janārdana, with the Vrishni king's approval, after consultation and permission, arranged the army.
ततस्तु यानान्यासाद्य दाशार्हाणां यशस्विनाम्। सिंहनादः प्रहृष्टानां क्षणेन समपद्यत
Then, after mounting the vehicles of the illustrious Dasharhas, a lion-like roar arose from the delighted warriors in an instant.
योजयन्तः सदश्वांस्तु यानयुग्यं रथांस्तथा। गजांश्च परमप्रीतः समपद्यन्त वृष्णयः
Yoking steeds to their chariots and harnessing their best vehicles, the Vrishnis, filled with great joy, also readied their elephants.
