कन्यापुरे तु यद्वृत्तं ज्ञात्वा दिव्येन चक्षुषा। शशास रुक्मिणीं कृष्णो भोजनादि तदार्जुने
Krishna, knowing what had transpired in the maiden's quarters through his divine vision, instructed Rukmini regarding food and other matters for Arjuna.
तदाप्रभृति तां भद्रां चिन्तयन्वै धनञ्जयः। आस्ते स्म स तदाऽऽरामे कामेन भृशपीडितः
From that moment, Dhananjaya, thinking constantly of that blessed one, remained in the garden, greatly afflicted by desire.
सुभद्रा चापि न स्वस्था पार्थं प्रति बभूव सा। कृशा विवर्णवदना चिन्ताशोकपरायणा
Subhadra too was not at ease regarding Partha; she became thin, her face pale, absorbed in anxiety and sorrow.
निश्वासपरमा भद्रा मानसेन मनस्विनी। न शय्यासनभोगेषु रतिं विन्दति केनचित्
Bhadrā, noble-minded, was full of sighs; she found no pleasure in the enjoyment of bed or seat.
न नक्तं न दिवा शेते बभूवोन्मत्तदर्शना। एवं शोकपरां भद्रां देवी वाक्यमथाब्रवीत्। मा शोकं कुरु वार्ष्णेयि धृतिमालम्ब्य शोभने
She neither slept by night nor by day, appearing as if mad; thus, as Bhadrā was absorbed in sorrow, the queen spoke to her: 'Do not grieve, O descendant of Vrishni; take courage, O beautiful one.'
रुक्मिण्येवं सुभद्रां तां कृष्णस्यानुमते तदा। रहोगत्य तदा श्वश्रूं देवकीं वाक्यमब्रवीत्
Then, with Krishna's approval, Rukmini, going privately, spoke to her mother-in-law Devaki regarding Subhadra.
अर्जुनो यतिरूपेण ह्यागतः सुसमाहितः। कन्यापुरमथाविश्य पूजितो भद्रया मुदा
Arjuna, having come in the guise of an ascetic, well composed, entered the maiden's quarters and was joyfully honored by Bhadrā.
तं विदित्वा सुभद्रापि लज्जया परिमोहिता। दिवानिशं शयाना सा नाकरोद्भोजनादिकम्
Knowing this, Subhadra too was overcome by modesty; lying day and night, she did not partake in food or other activities.
एवमुक्ता तया देवी भद्रां शोकपरायणाम्। तत्समीपं समागत्य श्लक्ष्णं वाक्यमथाब्रवीत्
Thus addressed by the queen, Bhadrā, absorbed in sorrow, was approached, and she spoke gentle words.
मा शोकं कुरु वार्ष्णेयि धृतिमालम्ब्य शोभने। राज्ञे निवेदयित्वापि वसुदेवाय धीमते
'Do not grieve, O descendant of Vrishni; take courage, O beautiful one. After informing the wise king Vasudeva—'
कृष्णायापि तथा भद्रे प्रहर्षं कारयामि ते। पश्चाज्जानामि ते वार्तां मा शोकं कुरु भामिनि
'And likewise to Krishna, O Bhadrā, I will bring you joy. Afterwards, I will learn your situation; do not grieve, O radiant one.'
एवमुक्त्वा तु सा माता भद्रायाः प्रियकारिणी। निवेदयामास तदा भद्रामानकदुन्दुभेः
Having spoken thus, the mother, wishing well for Bhadrā, then informed Bhadrā to Anakadundubhi.
रहस्येकासना तत्र भद्राऽस्वस्थेति चाब्रवीत्। आरामे तु यतिः श्रीमानर्जुनश्चेति नः श्रुतम्
In a secret meeting, she said that Bhadrā was unwell; and in the garden, the ascetic is the glorious Arjuna, so we have heard.
अक्रूराय च कृष्माय आहुकाय च सात्येकः। निवेद्यतां महाप्राज्ञ श्रोतव्यं यदि बान्धवैः
Let it be reported to Akrura, Kṛṣma, Āhuka, and Sātyaki, O wise one; let the relatives hear, if they wish.
वसुदेवस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा अक्रूराहुकयोस्तथा। निवेदयित्वा कृष्णेन मन्त्रयामास तैस्तदा
Vasudeva, having heard this, informed Akrura and Āhuka likewise; then, together with Krishna, he consulted with them.
इदं कार्यमिदं कृत्यमिदमेवेति निश्चितः। अक्रूरश्चोग्रसेनश्च सात्यकिश्च गदस्तथा
Having decided, 'This is the task, this is the action, this alone,' Akrura, Ugrasena, Sātyaki, and Gada were present.
पृथुश्रवाश्च कृष्णश्च सहिताः शिनिना मुहुः। रुक्मिणी सत्यभामा च देवकी रोहिणी तथा
Prithushravas and Krishna, together with Shini, and also Rukmini, Satyabhama, Devaki, and Rohini,
वसुदेवेन सहिताः पुरोहितमते स्थिताः। विवाहं मन्त्रयामासुर्द्वादशेऽहनि भारत
Joined by Vasudeva and following the advice of the family priest, began to discuss the wedding on the twelfth day, O Bharata.
अज्ञातं रौहिणेयस्य उद्धवस्य च भारत। विवाहं तु सुभद्रायाः कर्तुकामो गदाग्रजः
Without the knowledge of the son of Rohini and of Uddhava, O Bharata, the elder brother of Gada wished to arrange the marriage of Subhadra.
महादेवस्य पूजार्थं महोत्सव इति ब्रुवन्। चतुस्त्रिंशदहोरात्रं सुभद्रार्तिप्रशान्तये
Declaring it to be a great festival for the worship of Mahadeva, they said it would last for thirty-four days to dispel Subhadra’s distress.
नगरे घोषयास हितार्थं सव्यसाचिनः। इतश्चतुर्थे त्वहनि अन्तर्द्वीपं तु गम्यताम्
A proclamation was made in the city for the welfare of Savyasachi, that on the fourth day from now, all should go to Antardvipa.
सदारैः सानुयात्रैश्च सपुत्रैः सहबाधवैः। गन्तव्यं सर्ववर्मैश्च गन्तव्यं सर्वयादवैः
With their wives, retinues, sons, and brothers, all the warriors and all the Yadavas were to go.
एवमुक्तास्तु ते सर्वे तथा चक्रुश्च सर्वशः। ततः सर्वदशार्हाणामन्तर्द्वीपे च भारत
Thus instructed, they all did accordingly; then, O Bharata, all the Dasharhas gathered at Antardvipa.
चतुस्त्रिंशदहोरात्रं बभूव परमोत्सवः। कृष्णरामाहुकाक्रूरप्रद्युम्नशिनिसत्यकाः
For thirty-four days there was a grand festival, with Krishna, Rama, Ahuka, Akrura, Pradyumna, Shini, and Satyaki.
समुद्रं प्रययुर्हृष्टाः कुकुरान्धकवृष्णयः। युक्तयन्त्रपताकाभिर्वृष्णयो ब्राह्मणैः सह
The Kukuras, Andhakas, and Vrishnis, delighted, set out for the ocean, the Vrishnis accompanied by Brahmanas, with chariots and banners.
समुद्रं प्रययुर्नौभिः सर्वे पुरनिवासिनः। ततस्त्वरितमागत्य दाशार्हगणपूजितम्
All the inhabitants of the city went to the ocean by boats; then, arriving swiftly, they were honored by the Dasharha hosts.
सुभद्रा पुण्डरीकाक्षमब्रवीद्यतिशासनात्। कृत्यवान्द्वादशाहानि स्थाता स भगवानिह
Subhadra, at the command of the ascetic, spoke to the lotus-eyed one: 'For twelve days, the Blessed One must remain here to perform the required rites.'
तिष्ठतस्तस्य कः कुर्यादुपस्थानविधिं सदा। तमुवाच हृषीकेशः कस्त्वदन्यो विशेषतः
'Who will always perform the service for him while he stays?' she asked. Hrishikesha replied, 'Who else but you, especially?'
तमृषिं प्रत्युपस्थातुमितो नार्हति माधवि। त्वमेवास्मन्मतेनाद्य महर्षेर्वशवर्तिनी
'No other woman here is fit to attend on that sage, O Madhavi; today, by our counsel, you alone must serve the great sage.'
कुरु सर्वाणि कार्याणि कीर्तिं धर्ममवेक्ष्य च। तस्य चातिथिमुख्यस्य सर्वेषां च तपस्विनाम्
'Do all the necessary duties, keeping in mind both fame and righteousness, for that foremost guest and for all the ascetics.'
