तथाक्षहृदयप्राप्तिस्तस्मादेव महर्षितः। लोमशस्यागमस्तत्र स्वर्गात्पाण्डुसुतान्प्रति
Likewise, the gaining of mastery over dice by Yudhishthira from that very sage, and the arrival of Lomasha from heaven to the sons of Pandu, are narrated.
वनवासगतानां च पाण्डवानां महात्मनाम्। स्वर्गे प्रवृत्तिराख्याता लोमशेनार्जुनस्य वै
The account is given by Lomasha of Arjuna’s activities in heaven, while the great-souled Pandavas were dwelling in the forest.
संदेशादर्जुनस्यात्र तीर्थाभिगमनक्रिया। तीर्थानां च फलप्राप्तिः पुण्यत्वं चापि कीर्तितम्
Here is the message from Arjuna and the undertaking of pilgrimage to sacred places, as well as the attainment of merit and the sanctity of the holy sites.
पुलस्त्यतीर्थयात्रा च नारदेन महर्षिणा। तीर्थयात्रा च तत्रैव पाण्डवानां महात्मनां
The pilgrimage to Pulastya’s sacred place by the great sage Narada, and likewise the pilgrimage of the great-souled Pandavas, are described there.
तथा यज्ञविभूतिश्च गयस्यात्र प्रकीर्तिता
Likewise, the glory of the sacrifice performed by Gaya is recounted here.
आगस्त्यमपि चाख्यानं यत्र वातापिभक्षणम्। लोपामुद्राभिपमनमपत्यार्थमृषेस्तथा
Also, the tale of Agastya is told, including the consumption of Vatapi and the union with Lopamudra for the sake of offspring by the sage.
ऋश्यशृङ्गस्य चरितं कौमारब्रह्मचारिणः। जामदग्न्यस्य रामस्य चरितं भूरितेजसः
The life of Rishyashringa, the youthful celibate, and the deeds of Rama, son of Jamadagni, of great splendor, are narrated.
कार्तवीर्यवधो यत्र हैहयानां च वर्ण्यते। प्रभासतीर्थे पाण्डूनां वृष्णिभिश्च समागमः
The slaying of Kartavirya and the account of the Haihayas are described, as well as the meeting of the Pandavas and the Vrishnis at the sacred place of Prabhasa.
सौकन्यमपि चाख्यानं च्यवनो यत्र भार्गवः। शर्यातियज्ञे नासत्यौ कृतवान्सोमपीथिनौ

ततः श्येनकपोतीयमुपाख्यानमनुत्तमम्। इन्द्राग्नी यत्र धर्मश्चाप्यजिज्ञासञ्शिबिं नृपम्
Then comes the excellent tale of the hawk and the dove, where Indra, Agni, and Dharma tested King Shibi.
अष्टावक्रीयमत्रैव विवादो यत्र बन्दिना। अष्टावक्रस्य विप्रर्षेर्जनकस्याध्वरेऽभवत्
Here also is the story of Ashtavakra, the dispute with Bandi, which occurred at the sacrifice of King Janaka.
नैयायिकानां मुख्येन वरुणस्यात्मजेन च। पराजितो यत्र बन्दी विवादेन महात्मना
There, Bandi, the chief of the logicians and son of Varuna, was defeated in debate by the great-souled sage.
विजित्य सागरं प्राप्तं पितरं लब्धवानृषिः। यवक्रीतस्य चाख्यानं रैभ्यस्य च महात्मनः। गन्धमादनयात्रा च वासो नारायणाश्रमे
Having conquered the ocean, the sage reached and found his father; also told is the story of Yavakrīta and the great Raibhya, and the journey to Gandhamadana and their stay at the hermitage of Narayana.
नियुक्तो भीमसेनश्च द्रौपद्या गन्धमादने। व्रजन्पथि महाबाहुर्दृष्टवान्पवनात्मजम्
There, Bhimasena, sent by Draupadi, journeyed to Gandhamadana, and on the way, the mighty-armed one saw the son of the Wind-god.
कदलीषण्डमध्यस्थं हनूमन्तं महाबलम्। यत्र मन्दारपुष्पार्थे नलिनीं तामधर्षयत्
In the midst of a grove of plantains, he saw the mighty Hanuman, who, for the sake of mandara flowers, disturbed that lotus-lake.
यत्रास्य युद्धमभवत्सुमहद्राक्षसैः सह। यक्षैश्चैव महावीर्यैर्मणिमत्प्रमुखैस्तथा
There, he fought a great battle with powerful rakshasas and also with mighty yakshas led by Maniman.
जटासुरस्य च वधो राक्षसस्य वृकोदरात्। वृषपर्वणो राजर्षेस्ततोऽभिगमनं स्मृतम्
The killing of the rakshasa Jatasura by Vrikodara is recounted, and then the approach to the royal sage Vrishaparvan is remembered.
आर्ष्टिषेणाश्रमे चैषां गमनं वास एव च। प्रोत्साहनं च पाञ्चाल्या भीमस्यात्र महात्मनः

समागमश्च पाण्डूनां यत्र वैश्रवणेन च। समागमश्चार्जुनस्य तत्रैव भ्रातृभिः सह
There is also the meeting of the Pandavas with Vaishravana, and Arjuna's reunion with his brothers there.
अवाप्य दिव्यान्यस्त्राणि गुर्वर्थं सव्यसाचिना। निवातकवचैर्युद्धं हिरण्यपुरवासिभिः
Having obtained divine weapons for the sake of his teacher, Savyasacin fought with the Nivatakavachas and the inhabitants of Hiranyapura.
निवातकवचैर्घोरैर्दानवैः सुरशत्रुभिः। पौलोमैः कालकेयैश्च यत्र युद्धं किरीटिनः
There, the diademed one fought with the fierce Nivatakavacha danavas, enemies of the gods, as well as with the Paulomas and Kalakeyas.
वधश्चैषां समाख्यातो राज्ञस्तेनैव धीमता। अस्त्रसंदर्शनारम्भो धर्मराजस्य सन्निधौ
Their destruction is narrated by that wise king, and the beginning of the display of weapons in the presence of Dharmaraja.
पार्थस्य प्रतिषेधश्छ नारदेन सुरर्षिणा। अवरोहणं पुनश्चैव पाण्डूनां गन्धमादनात्
The restraint of Partha by the divine sage Narada is told, as well as the Pandavas' descent again from Gandhamadana.
भीमस्य ग्रहणं चात्र पर्वताभोगवर्ष्मणा। भुजगेन्द्रेण बलिना तस्मिन्सुगहने वने
Here is described the capture of Bhima, whose body was like the curve of a mountain, by the powerful king of serpents in that dense forest.
अमोक्षयद्यत्र चैनं प्रश्नानुक्त्वा युधिष्ठिरः। काम्यकागमनं चैव पुनस्तेषां महात्मनाम्
And there, Yudhishthira released him only after asking questions; also, the coming of the great-souled ones to Kamyaka is narrated again.
तत्रस्थांश्च पुनर्द्रष्टुं पाण्डवान्परुषर्षभान्। वासुदेवस्यागमनमत्रैव परिकीर्तितम्
Here too is recounted the coming of Vasudeva to see again the mighty bulls of the Bharata race, the Pandavas, who were staying there.
मार्कण्डेयसमास्यायामुपाख्यानानि सर्वशः। पृथोर्वैन्यस्य यत्रोक्तमाख्यानं परमर्षिणा
