That dreadful rain of weapons, unleashed by the rākṣasa, struck down the soldiers of the son of Pāṇḍu on the battlefield.
He uttered many and various cries all around, and by him, the elephants of the Pāṇḍava army were slain in battle.
Many horses, O King, and again foot soldiers, and chariot-warriors were struck down by his arrows and fell from their chariots.
He set in motion a river with eddies of blood, crowded with elephant-crocodiles, where umbrellas floated like swans, muddy, and teeming with serpent-like arms.
He unleashed a river, filled with hosts of demons, which carried away the Cedis, Panchalas, and Srinjayas in many ways, O King.
Seeing him thus moving fearlessly in battle, the Pandavas were greatly agitated, beholding his prowess.
But among your troops, a great joy arose, and a fierce, tremendous sound of instruments, causing hair to stand on end.
Hearing that terrible roar from your army, O Pandava, he could not endure it, just as a serpent cannot bear the sound of thunder.
Then, his eyes reddened with anger, blazing like fire, he invoked the weapon of Tvashtar, like Tvashtar himself or the wind-god.
Then thousands of arrows appeared on all sides, and with those arrows, a great rout arose among your troops.
That weapon, released by Bhimasena in battle, destroyed the great illusion of the Rakshasa and struck down the Rakshasa.
Assailed in many ways by Bhimasena, the Rakshasa abandoned Bhima in battle and rushed toward Drona's division.

When that king of Rakshasas, the great-souled one, was defeated, the Pandavas filled all directions with lion-like shouts.
Rejoicing, they honored mighty Maruti, just as the Maruts once honored Indra with delight, like the Daityas did.
Then, when his discus was repelled, that hero, filled with rage, hurled ten hundred spears, blazing with fury.
Blazing and emitting garlands of flames on all sides, sharp as meteors at the end of an age, with golden shafts and great sound.
Beholding those spears rushing forth, Ghatotkacha cut them down with crescent arrows and iron arrows with vulture-feathered shafts.
Then, his body overcome with rage, that Rakshasa released a most terrible shower of arrows at Ghatotkacha's chariot.
A fearful battle took place between those two lion-like Rakshasas, both employing various illusions, like that of Shakra and Shambara.
Alambusa, greatly enraged, struck Ghatotkacha.
The battle between those chiefs of the Rakshasa hosts was like that which once occurred between Rama and Ravana, O lord.
Ghaṭotkaca, pierced Alambusa in the chest with twenty arrows, and roared repeatedly like a lion.
Likewise, O King, Alambusa, fierce in battle, struck Haiḍimbi, and roared loudly, filling the field from all sides.
Thus, those two mighty kings of the rākṣasas, greatly enraged, fought each other with illusions, without distinction.
Constantly creating hundreds of illusions, bewildering each other, skilled in magical warfare, they fought with illusions.
Whatever illusion Ghaṭotkaca displayed in battle, O King, Alambusa countered it with his own illusion and destroyed it.
Seeing Alambusa, the king of rākṣasas, fighting so expertly in magical warfare, the Pāṇḍavas became enraged.
