ततः कृष्णवचः श्रुत्वा संस्पृश्याम्भो धनञ्जयः। भूमावासीन एकाग्रो जगाम मनसा भवम्
Then, hearing Kṛṣṇa's words, Dhanañjaya touched water, sat upon the ground in concentration, and with his mind approached the Lord.
ततः प्रणिहितो ब्राह्मे मुहूर्ते शुभलक्षणे। आत्मानमर्जुनोऽपश्यद्गने सहकेशवम्
Then, at the auspicious moment of the Brāhma-muhūrta, Arjuna, intent, beheld himself in the midst of the clouds together with Keśava.
पुण्यं हिमवतः पादं मणिमन्तं च पर्वतम्। ज्योतिर्भिश्च समाकीर्णं सिद्धचारणसेवितम्
The sacred foot of the Himalaya, and the jewel-studded mountain, filled with radiant lights, attended by Siddhas and Charanas.
वायुवेगगतिः पार्थः खं भेजे सहकेशवः। केशवेन गृहीतः स दक्षिणे विभुना भुजे
Arjuna, swift as the wind, entered the sky together with Kesava, held by the mighty Kesava in his right arm.
प्रेक्षमाणो बहून्भावाञ्जगामाद्भुतदर्शनान्। उदीच्यां दिशि धर्मात्मा सोपश्यच्छ्वेतपर्वतम्
Observing many wondrous sights, the righteous one traveled northward, beholding the shining White Mountain.
कुबेरस्य विराहे च नलिनीं पद्मभूषिताम्। सरिच्छ्रेष्ठां च तां गङ्गां वीक्षमाणो बहूदकाम्
He gazed upon Kubera’s splendid lotus-filled lake, and that foremost of rivers, the Ganga, abundant with waters.
सदा पुष्पफलैर्वृक्षैरुपेतां स्फटिकोपलाम्। सिंहव्याघ्रसमाकीर्णां नानामृगसमाकुलाम्
Adorned with trees always bearing flowers and fruits, with crystal boulders, teeming with lions and tigers, and crowded with various beasts.
पुण्याश्रमवतीं रम्यां मनोज्ञाण्डजसेविताम्। मन्दरस्य प्रदेशांश्च किन्नरोद्गीतनादितान्
Beautiful, sacred hermitages, delightful and frequented by charming birds, and the regions of Mandara resounding with the songs of Kinnaras.
हेमरूप्यमयैः शृङ्गैर्नानौषधिविदीपितान्। तथा मन्दारवृक्षैश्च पुष्पितैरुपशोभितान्
With peaks of gold and silver, illuminated by diverse herbs, and adorned with blossoming Mandara trees.
स्निग्धाञ्जनचयाकारं सम्प्राप्तः कालपर्वतम्। ब्रह्मतुङ्गं नदीश्चान्यास्तथा जनपदानपि
He reached the dark-hued Kala mountain, lofty as Brahma, along with other rivers and regions inhabited by people.
स तुङ्गं शतशृङ्गं च शर्यातिवनमेव च। पुण्यमश्वशिरस्थानं स्थानमाथर्वणस्य च
That towering, hundred-peaked mountain, the Sharyati forest, the sacred place of Ashvashiras, and the abode of Atharvan.
वृषदंशं च शैलेन्द्रं महामन्दरमेव च। अप्सरोभिः समाकीर्णं किन्नरैश्चोपशोभितम्
The lordly Vrishadansa mountain, the great Mandara, crowded with Apsaras and adorned by Kinnaras.
तस्मिञ्शैले व्रजन्पार्थः सकृष्णः समवैक्षत। शुभैः प्रस्रवणैर्जुष्टां हेमधातुविभूषिताम्
On that mountain, Partha with Krishna beheld streams adorned with pure waters and embellished with veins of gold.
चन्द्ररश्मिप्रकाशाङ्गीं पृथिवीं पुरमालिनीम्। समुद्रांश्चाद्भुताकारानपश्यद्बहुलाकरान्
He saw the earth shining with the radiance of moonbeams, garlanded with cities, and the oceans of wondrous forms and vast expanse.
वियद्द्यां पृथिवीं चैव तथा विष्णुपदं व्रजन्। विस्मितः सह कृष्णेन क्षिप्तो बाण इवाभ्यगात्
As he journeyed through the sky, earth, and the path of Vishnu, amazed, he sped along with Krishna like an arrow.
ग्रहनक्षत्रसोमानां सूर्याग्न्योश्च समत्विषम्। अपश्यत तदा पार्थो ज्वलन्तमिव पर्वतम्
There Arjuna beheld a mountain blazing like a thousand suns, equal in brilliance to the planets, stars, moon, sun, and fire.
समासाद्य तु तं शैलं शैलाग्रे समवस्थितम्। तपोनित्यं महात्मानमपश्यद्वॄषभध्वजम्
Reaching that mountain, standing upon its summit, he saw the great-souled Vrishabhadhvaja, ever devoted to austerity.
सहस्रमिव सूर्याणां दीप्यमानं स्वतेजसा। शूलिनं जटिलं गौरं वल्कलाजिनवाससम्
Shining with the brilliance of a thousand suns, bearing a trident, matted-haired, fair, clad in bark and animal skin.
नयनानां सहस्रैश्च विचित्राङ्गं महौजसम्। पार्वत्या सहितं देवं भूतसङ्घैश्च भास्वरैः
With a thousand eyes, of wondrous form and great energy, the god was seen together with Parvati and radiant hosts of beings.
गीतवादित्रसन्नादैर्हास्यलास्यसमन्वितम्। वग्लितास्फोटितोत्क्रुष्टैः पुण्यैर्गन्धैश्च सेवितम्
Accompanied by songs and musical instruments, with laughter and dance, with shouts, clapping, and auspicious fragrances.
स्तूयमानं स्तवैर्दिव्यैर्ऋषिभिर्ब्रह्मवादिभिः। गोप्तारं सर्वभूतानामीशानं वरदं शिवम्
Praised with divine hymns by sages versed in Brahman, the protector of all beings, the lord, the bestower of boons, the auspicious one.
वासुदेवस्तु तं दृष्ट्वा जगाम शिरसा क्षितिम्। पार्थेन सह धर्मात्मा गृणन्ब्रह्म सनातनम्
Vasudeva, seeing him, bowed his head to the earth, together with Arjuna, the righteous soul, extolling the eternal Brahman.
लोकादिं विश्वकर्माणमजमीशानमव्ययम्। मनसः परमं योनिं खं वायुं ज्योतिषां निधिम्
The origin of worlds, the maker of all, unborn, lord, imperishable, the supreme source of mind, the sky, the wind, the treasury of lights.
स्रष्टारं वारिधाराणां भुवश्च प्रकृतिं पराम्। देवदानवयक्षाणां मानवानां च शासकम्
The creator of waters, the supreme nature of earth, the ruler of gods, demons, yakshas, and men.
योगानां च परं धाम दृष्टं ब्रह्मविदां निधिम्। चारचरस्य स्रष्टारं प्रतिहर्तारमेव च
The supreme abode of yogas, the seen treasury of those who know Brahman, the creator and destroyer of all that moves and is still.
कालकोपं महात्मानं शक्रसूर्यगुणोदयम्। ववन्दतुस्तदा कृष्णौ वाङ्मनोबुद्धिकर्मभिः
The wrath of time, the great soul, the source of Indra and Surya's qualities—then Krishna and Arjuna worshipped him with speech, mind, intellect, and action.
यं प्रपद्यन्ति विद्वांसः सूक्ष्माध्यात्मपदैषिणः। तमजं कारमात्मानं जग्मतुः शरणं भवम्
He whom the wise approach, seeking subtle spiritual states, the unborn, the cause, the self—him they sought as refuge, the source of existence.
अर्जुनश्चापि तं देवं भूयो भूयोऽप्यवन्दत। ज्ञात्वा तं सर्वभूतादिं भूतभव्यभवोद्भवम्
And Arjuna, again and again, worshipped that god, knowing him as the origin of all beings, the source of past, present, and future.
शरण्यं शरणं देवमीशानं परमेश्वरम्। जगाम जगतां नाथमर्जुनः सजनार्दनः
The god who is refuge, the lord, the supreme ruler, the master of worlds—Arjuna, with Janardana, approached him.
ततस्तावागतौ दृष्ट्वा नरनारायणावुभौ। सुप्रसन्नमनाः शर्वः प्रोवाच प्रहसन्निव
Then, seeing both Nara and Narayana arrived, Sharva, with a delighted mind, spoke, as if smiling.
