स्वधां पूजां च रक्षोभिर्जनस्थाने प्रणाशिताम्। प्रादान्निहत्य रक्षांसि पितृदेवेभ्य ईश्वरः
The Lord, having destroyed the demons who had ruined the offerings and worship in people's dwellings, restored the ancestral and divine rites.
सहस्रपुत्राः पुरुषा दशवर्षशतायुषः। न च ज्येष्ठाः कनिष्ठेभ्यस्तदा श्राद्धानि कुर्वते
Men with a thousand sons lived for a hundred years, but at that time, elders did not perform funeral rites for the younger ones.
श्यामो युवा लोहिताक्षो मत्तमातङ्गविक्रमः। आजानुबाहुः सुभुजः सिंहस्कन्धो महाबलः
He was dark, youthful, with red eyes, possessing the strength of a maddened elephant, long-armed, well-built, lion-shouldered, and of great might.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि दशवर्षशतानि च। सर्वभूतमनःकान्तो रामो राज्यमकारयत्
Rama, beloved of all beings, ruled the kingdom for ten thousand and one thousand years.
रामो रामो राम इति प्रजानामभवत्कथा। रामभूतं जगदभूद्रामे राज्यं प्रशासति
The talk among the people was always 'Rama, Rama, Rama'; the world became filled with Rama as he ruled the kingdom.
चतुर्विधाः प्रजा रामः स्वर्गं नीत्वा दिवं गतः। आत्मेच्छया प्रतिष्ठाप्य राजवंशमिहाष्टधा
Rama, having led the fourfold people to heaven, departed to the celestial world, and by his own will established the royal lineage here in eight branches.
स चेन्ममार सृञ्जय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया। पुत्रात्पुण्यतरस्तुभ्यं मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथाः। अयज्वानमदक्षिण्यमभि श्वैत्येत्युदाहरत्
If he died, O Sṛñjaya, he is more blessed in four ways than you; he is more virtuous than a son for you—do not grieve for your son. People speak thus about one who does not sacrifice or give gifts: 'He is like a dog.'
राजाऽपि विविधैरिष्ट्वा यज्ञैर्विविधदक्षिणैः'। गतः पुण्यकृतां लोकान्व्याप्य स्वयशसा दिशः
The king, having performed various sacrifices with many kinds of gifts, attained the worlds of the virtuous, his fame spreading in all directions.

We have heard, O Sṛñjaya, that Nabhaga and Ambarīṣa died—he who alone defeated a thousand kings among thousands.
जिगीषमाणाः सङ्ग्रामे समन्ताद्वैरिणोऽभ्ययुः। अस्त्रयुद्धविदो घोराः सृजन्तश्चाशिवा गिरः
Desiring victory in battle, fierce enemies skilled in the use of weapons surrounded him on all sides, uttering inauspicious words.
बललाघवशिक्षाभिस्तेषां सोऽस्त्रबलेन च। छत्रायुधध्वजरथांश्छित्त्वा प्रासान्गतव्यथः
By his training in strength and agility, and with his mastery of weapons, he fearlessly cut down their umbrellas, weapons, banners, and chariots.
त एनं मुक्तसन्नाहाः प्रार्थयञ्जीवितैषिणः। शरण्यमीयुः शरणं तव स्म इति वादिनः
Those warriors, having cast off their armor and seeking to preserve their lives, approached him for refuge, saying, 'We seek your protection.'
स तु तान्वशगान्कृत्वा जित्वा चेमां वसुन्धराम्। ईजे यज्ञशतैरिष्टैर्यथा शक्रस्तथाऽनघः
Having subdued them and conquered this earth, he performed hundreds of sacrifices with offerings, just as Indra the sinless one did.
बुभुजुः सर्वसम्पन्नमन्नमन्ये जनाः सदा। तस्मिन्यज्ञे तु विप्रेन्द्राः सन्तृप्ताः परमार्चिताः
Other people always enjoyed food that was rich in every kind of provision; but in that sacrifice, the foremost Brahmins were satisfied and honored to the highest degree.
मोदकान्पूरिकापूपान्स्वादुपूर्णाश्च शष्कुलीः। करम्भान्पृथुमृद्वीका अन्नानि सुकृतानि च
They had sweet dumplings, cakes, pancakes, and full platters of delicious śaṣkulī; karambha, abundant raisins, and well-prepared foods.
सूपान्मैरेयकापूपान्रागषाडवपानकान्। मृष्टान्नानि सुयुक्तानि मृदूनि सुरभीणि च
There were soups, cakes made with wine, drinks flavored with spices and sweet-sour sauces; fine foods, skillfully prepared, tender and fragrant.
घृतं मधु पयस्तोयं दधीनि रसवन्ति च। फलं मूलं सुस्वादु द्विजास्तत्रोपभुञ्जते
Ghee, honey, milk, water, curds rich in flavor; fruits and roots, all delicious—these the twice-born consumed there.
मदनीयानि पापानि विदित्वा चात्मनः सुखम्। अपिबन्त यथाकामं पानपा गीतवादितैः
Knowing the intoxicating drinks, and seeking their own pleasure, they drank as they wished, accompanied by music and songs.
तत्र स्म गाथा गायन्ति क्षीबा हृष्टाः पठन्ति च। नाभागस्तुतिसंयुक्ता ननृतुश्च सहस्रशः
There, intoxicated and joyful, they sang songs and recited verses; thousands danced, joined in praise of Nābhāga.
तेषु यज्ञेष्वम्बरीषो दक्षिणामत्यकालयत्। राज्ञां शतसहस्राणि दशप्रयुतयाजिनाम्
In those sacrifices, Ambarīṣa gave gifts beyond measure; hundreds of thousands of kings, ten million who performed sacrifices.
हिरण्यकवचान्सर्वाञ्श्वेतच्छत्रप्रकीर्णकान्। हिरण्यस्यन्दनारूढान्सानुयात्रपरिच्छादान्
All adorned with golden armor, with white parasols spread out; riding golden chariots, with their retinues and attendants.
ईजानो वितते यज्ञे दक्षिणामत्यकालयत्। मूर्धाभिषिक्तांश्च नृपान्राजपुत्रशतानि च
Performing sacrifice, he gave gifts beyond measure; crowned kings and hundreds of royal princes.
स दण्डकोशनिचयान्ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ह्यमन्यत। नैवं पूर्वे जनाश्चक्रुर्न करिष्यन्ति चापरे
He considered the heaps of rods and treasures for the Brahmins; neither the people of old did so, nor will those who come after.
यदम्बरीषो नृपतिः करोत्यमितदक्षिणः। इत्येवमनुमोदन्ते प्रीता यस्य महर्षयः
Whatever king Ambarīṣa does, giving boundless gifts—thus, the delighted sages approve.
स चेन्ममार सृञ्जय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया। पुत्रात्पुण्यतरस्तुभ्यं मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथाः। अयज्वानमदक्षिण्यमभि श्वैत्येत्युदाहरत्
If Sṛñjaya dies, O king, you have four who are more fortunate; your son is more blessed than you—do not grieve for your son. They call one who does not sacrifice or give gifts 'white,' meaning unworthy.
सौवर्णां पृथिवीं कृत्वा य इमां प्रमिशर्कराम्। विप्रेभ्यः प्राददद्राजा सोऽश्वमेधे महामखे
Having made the earth of gold, as if mixed with sugar, the king gave it to the Brahmins at the great horse sacrifice.
जाम्बूनदमया यूपाः सर्वे रत्नपरिच्छदाः। गयस्यासन्समृद्धास्तु सर्वभूतमनोहराः
All the sacrificial posts were made of gold, adorned with jewels; Gayā's were splendid, enchanting to all beings.
सर्वकामसमृद्धं च प्रादादन्नं गयस्तदा। ब्राह्ममेभ्यः प्रहृष्टेभ्यः सर्वभूतेभ्य एव च
Gayā then gave food abundant in every desire, to the Brahmins who were delighted, and to all beings as well.
ससमुद्रवनद्वीपनदीनदवनेषु च। नगरेषु च राष्ट्रेषु दिवि व्योम्नि च येऽवसन्
To those living in the seas, forests, islands, rivers, and deserts; in cities and kingdoms, and in the sky and heavens.
