Again, Satyaki, mighty in battle, raised a thousand arrows and covered him, roaring loudly.
Seeing his son seized like the moon by Rahu, the valiant Bharadvaja rushed at Shaineya.
In the great battle, he pierced him with a sharp arrow, seeking to rescue his son, who was oppressed by the Vrishni hero.
Satyaki, abandoning the mighty chariot-warrior, the son of his teacher, struck Drona with twenty arrows, all tipped with iron.
Then, the unfathomable Kaunteya, tormentor of foes, enraged, rushed toward Drona in battle, that great chariot-warrior.
Thereafter, Drona and Partha met in the great conflict, O King, like Mercury and Venus in the sky.
How did Drona, the mighty archer, and Dhananjaya, the Pandava, come together in battle, those two foremost among men?
For the wise Bharadvaja always cherishes the Pandava, and the teacher is ever dear to Partha in battle, O Sanjaya.
Both, mounted on chariots in the contest, were delighted and fierce like lions; how did Bharadvaja and Dhananjaya come together?
In battle, Drona does not recognize Partha as his beloved, nor does Partha regard his teacher as such in combat, putting warrior duty first.
Kshatriyas, O King, do not avoid each other in battle; they fight without restraint, even against fathers and brothers.
In battle, O Bharata, Drona was struck by Partha with three arrows, yet he did not heed those shafts shot from Partha's bow.
Again, Partha covered him in battle with a shower of arrows; Drona blazed with anger like a fire in a dense forest.
Then, O King, Drona covered Arjuna in battle with arrows whose heads were bent, and not long after, O Bharata.
Then King Duryodhana urged Suśarman in battle, O King, for the purpose of attacking Drona from behind.
The enraged king of the Trigartas, having drawn his bow with force, covered Partha in battle with iron-tipped arrows.
The arrows released by those two shone in the sky, O King, like swans in the autumn sky.
Those arrows, reaching Kaunteya from all sides, entered him, O Lord, like birds entering a fruit-laden, sweet tree.
But Arjuna, best among charioteers, roared in battle, and struck the king of the Trigartas and his sons with arrows.
Those being slain by Partha, as if by Time at the end of an age, turned only toward Partha, resolved on death, and released a shower of arrows at the Pandava's chariot.
Then, O King, Arjuna received that shower of arrows from all sides with volleys of his own, like a mountain receiving a rainstorm.
There we saw something wondrous: the dexterity of Bhībhatsu's hands, as he repelled the formidable shower of weapons released by many warriors.
Just as the Wind alone scatters masses of clouds, so did Arjuna repel them; by this deed of Partha, both gods and asuras were pleased.
Then, enraged in battle, Arjuna, O Bharata, released the mighty wind weapon against the Trigartas at the forefront of the army.
Thereupon, the Wind arose, agitating the sky, toppling groups of trees and striking down soldiers.
Then Drona, seeing that fierce wind weapon, O King, released another dreadful weapon, like a mountain, in response.
When Drona released that weapon in battle, O ruler of men, the wind subsided, and the ten directions became clear.
Then the heroic son of Pandu caused the chariot divisions of the Trigartas to lose heart in battle, turning them back in retreat.
Thereupon Duryodhana, and Kripa, foremost among charioteers, as well as Ashvatthama, Shalya, and Sudakshina the Kamboja,
Vind and Anuvind of Avanti, and Bahlika with the Bahlikas, with a great array of chariots, blocked Arjuna’s advance on all sides.
