Drauṇi, displaying great dexterity, cut it down in battle; and he struck Śikhaṇḍin with many iron arrows.
Śikhaṇḍin, greatly afflicted by those sharp arrows, quickly mounted the chariot of the high-souled Mādhava.

Assuming a Rākṣasa illusion, he covered him with a shower of arrows; there we beheld the wondrous valor of Śaineya.

Unshaken in battle, though being struck with sharp arrows, the Vṛṣṇi hero, O Bhārata, employed the weapon of Indra.
That weapon, which the illustrious Mādhava had received from Vijaya, then reduced that Rākṣasa illusion to ashes.
With other arrows, he assailed Alambusa from all sides, as rain clouds in the monsoon envelop a mountain with torrents.
Thus afflicted by the renowned Mādhava, the Rākṣasa fled in fear, abandoning Sātyaki on the battlefield.

Having conquered the mighty one, O Bhārata, Sātyaki, the Śaineya, won victory as your warriors looked on.
And Sātyaki, truly valiant, struck your men with many sharp arrows; terrified, they fled.
At that very moment, O great king, the powerful son of Drupada, Dhṛṣṭadyumna, attacked your son, the lord of men.
In battle, he covered him with arrows whose heads were bent; and as Dhṛṣṭadyumna showered him with shafts, O Bhārata—
Your son, O king of men, was not shaken; and in battle, he swiftly struck Dhṛṣṭadyumna with arrows.
With sixty and then thirty arrows—it was truly marvelous—your furious commander cut down his bow, O Māriṣa.
And the mighty one quickly slew his four horses, and with seven well-aimed arrows, he swiftly struck him.

Shakuni, the powerful king greedy for sovereignty, approached him and mounted the king of all people onto his own chariot.
Thereafter, having defeated the king, the son of Prishata, destroyer of enemy heroes, struck down your army like the wielder of the thunderbolt slaying the Asuras.
Kritavarma, the great chariot-warrior, showered Bhima with arrows in battle, covering him as a great cloud covers the sun.
Then Bhimasena, scorcher of foes, laughed in the fight and, enraged, sent a fierce shaft at Kritavarma.

The destroyer of enemy heroes enveloped him with many kinds of arrows, shattering all his limbs as a dog tears apart bones with its teeth.

Then, his horses slain, he swiftly went to the chariot of Subala's son—your son, O king, watching closely.
Bhimasena too, enraged, rushed at your army and struck them down in his wrath like Death himself wielding the rod of punishment.
Indeed, O Sanjaya, I heard of many remarkable duels between the sons of Pandu and my men, as you recounted.
Yet you never speak of any valor among my men, O Sanjaya; you always praise the sons of Pandu as joyful and unbroken.
You say, O charioteer, that my men are being defeated, dispirited, and drained of energy in battle—this, indeed, is the truth, there is no doubt.
To the best of their ability and enthusiasm, your men strive in battle, displaying their utmost strength and manliness, O best of men.
