संबन्धिकेन राजेन्द्र तौ तु वीर्यबलान्वयात् । आर्यवृत्तौ महेष्वासौ स्नेहवीर्यसितावुभौ
O king, these two, bound by kinship and descended from lines of strength and valor, are noble in conduct, mighty archers, united by affection and courage.
कारणं प्राप्य तु नराः सर्व एव महाभुजाः । शूरा वा कातरा वापि भवन्ति कुरुपुङ्गव
When the time comes, O best of the Kurus, all men—whether brave or fearful—become so, regardless of their nature, upon encountering the cause.
एकायनगतावेतौ पार्थिवौ दृढधन्विनौ । प्राणांस्त्यक्त्वा परं शक्त्या घट्टितारौ परन्तप
These two kings, steadfast archers, have come together for a single purpose; scorcher of foes, they will risk their lives and exert their utmost strength.
पृथगक्षौहिणीभ्यां तावुभौ संयति दारुणौ । संबन्धिभावं रक्षन्तौ महत्कर्म करिष्यतः
Each commanding a separate division, these two fierce warriors will perform great deeds in battle, upholding their bond of kinship.
लोकवीरौ महेष्वासौ त्यक्तात्मानौ च भारत। प्रत्ययं परिरक्षन्तौ महत्कर्म करिष्यतः
These two, renowned in the world, mighty archers, having set aside concern for themselves, will perform great deeds, upholding their pledge.
पाञ्चालराजस्य सुतो राजन्परपुरंजयः । शिखण्डी रथमुख्यो मे मतः पार्थस्य भारत
O King, the son of the Panchala ruler, conqueror of enemy cities—Shikhandi—is, in my view, the foremost chariot-warrior for Partha, O Bharata.
एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे नाशयन्पूर्वसंस्थितम् । परं यशो विप्रथयंस्तव सेनासु भारत
He will fight in battle, destroying those who stand before him, spreading great fame among your armies, O Bharata.
एतस्य बहुलाः सेनाः पाञ्चालाश्च प्रभद्रकाः । तेनासौ रथवंशेन महत्कर्म करिष्यति
He commands many troops—the Panchalas and the Prabhadrakas; with his chariot division, he will accomplish great deeds.
धृष्टद्युम्नश्च सेनानीः सर्वसेनासु भारत । मतो मेऽतिरथो राजन्द्रोणशिष्यो महारथः
Dhṛṣṭadyumna, commander of the armies, O Bhārata, is in my opinion a mighty charioteer, a king, a disciple of Droṇa, and a great warrior.
एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे सूदयन्वै परान्रणे। भगवानिव संक्रुद्धः पिनाकी युगसंक्षये
He will fight in battle, slaying enemies on the field, like the Lord Pinākī, enraged at the end of an age.
एतस्य तद्रथानीकं कथयन्ति रणप्रियाः । बहुत्वात्सागरप्रख्यं देवानामिव संयुगे
Those who delight in battle speak of his chariot division as vast as the ocean, like the gods’ in combat.
क्षत्रधर्मा तु राजेन्द्र मतो मेऽर्धरथो नृप। धृष्टद्युम्नस्य तनयो बाल्यान्नातिकृतश्रमः
His son, O king, devoted to the warrior’s duty, is considered by me a half-charioteer; being young, he is not yet greatly fatigued.

Devoted to the warrior’s duty, he is esteemed by me as a conqueror of enemy cities; Kṣatradeva, O king, is a foremost charioteer among the Pāṇḍavas.
जयन्तश्चामितौजाश्च सत्यजिच्च महारथः । महारथा महात्मानः सर्वे पाञ्चालसत्तमाः
Jayanta, Amitaujas, and Satyajit are all great charioteers; all are noble-hearted, the best among the Pāñcālas.
योत्स्यन्ते समरे तात संरब्धा इव कुञ्जराः । अजो भोजश्च विक्रान्तौ पाण्डवार्थे महारथौ
They will fight in battle, father, aroused like elephants; Aja and Bhoja, both valiant, are great charioteers for the Pāṇḍavas’ cause.
योत्स्येते बलिनौ शूरौ परं शक्त्या यतिष्यतः। शीघ्रास्त्राश्चित्रयोद्धारः कृतिनो दृढविक्रमाः
These two, strong and heroic, will fight with utmost power; swift with weapons, skilled in varied combat, firm in their valor.
केकयाः पञ्च राजेन्द्र भ्रातरो दृढविक्रमाः । सर्वे चैव रथोदाराः सर्वे लोहितकध्वजाः
The five Kekaya brothers, O king, are steadfast in valor; all are distinguished charioteers, all bear red banners.
काशिकः सुकुमारश्च नीलो यश्चापरो नृप । सूर्यदत्तश्च शङ्खश्च मदिराश्वश्च नामतः
Kāśika, Sukumāra, Nīla, and another, O king, as well as Sūryadatta, Śaṅkha, and Madirāśva by name.
सर्व एव रथोदाराः सर्वे चाहवलक्षणाः । सर्वास्त्रविदुषः सर्वे महात्मानो मता मम
All are distinguished charioteers, all bear marks of valor; all are skilled in weapons, all are noble-hearted in my opinion.

Senābindu, O king, and Krodhahantā by name, who is equal to Vāsudeva or Bhīmasena, O illustrious one.
स योत्स्यति हि विक्रम्य समरे तव सैनिकैः । मां च द्रोणं कृपं चैव यथा संमन्यते भवान्
He will fight valiantly in battle against your warriors, as you regard me, Droṇa, and Kṛpa.
तथा स समरश्लाघी मन्तव्यो रथसत्तमः । काश्यः परमशीघ्रास्त्रः श्लाघनीयो नरोत्तमः
In the same way, that foremost of chariot-warriors, the illustrious Kāśya, who is highly skilled with swift weapons, should be regarded as praiseworthy in battle, O best of men.
रथ एकगुणो मह्यं ज्ञेयः परपुरंजयः । अयं च युधि विक्रान्तो मन्तव्योष्टगुणो रथः
A single-quality chariot-warrior, in my judgment, is one who conquers enemy cities; but this one, who is valiant in battle, should be considered an eightfold chariot-warrior.
सत्यजित्समरश्लाघी द्रुपदस्यात्मजो युवा । गतः सोऽतिरथत्वं हि धृष्टद्युम्नेन संमितः
Satyajit, renowned in battle, the young son of Drupada, has attained the status of an atiratha, being reckoned as such by Dhṛṣṭadyumna.
पाण्डवानां यशस्कामः परं कर्म करिष्यति । अनुरक्ताश्च शूरश्च रथोऽयमपरो महान्
Desiring the fame of the Pāṇḍavas, he will accomplish great deeds; devoted and courageous, this is another mighty chariot-warrior.
