Let the Sutas and Magadhas praise you with many hymns, and let the Pandavas proclaim the victory of Vasu’s son.
Thus, surrounded by the Pandavas like the moon by stars, rule the kingdom, son of Kunti, and bring joy to Kunti.
May your friends rejoice, and may your enemies be troubled; and may there be brotherhood today between you and the sons of Pandu.
Without doubt, O Keshava, it is out of affection, friendship, and the desire for my welfare that you show me kindness, O descendant of Vrishni.
I fully know that I am the son of Pandu by law, just as you, Krishna, believe, based on the settled conclusions of the scriptures of righteousness.

The maiden conceived me from the Sun, O Janardana, and, by the word of the Sun, she abandoned me after I was born.
Thus, Krishna, I was born in this way; I am the son of Pandu by law, but I was cast away by Kunti, which was not right.
Adhiratha the charioteer, upon seeing me, brought me to his house, and out of affection, O Madhusudana, gave me to Radha.
Because of Radha's love for me, her milk flowed at once; she accepted my urine and excrement, O Madhava.
How could someone like me, who knows righteousness and is always devoted to hearing the scriptures, abandon the funeral offerings for her?
In this way, Adhiratha the charioteer knows me as his son, and out of affection, I always acknowledge him as my father.

He performed for me all the birth rites, O Madhava, according to the scriptural injunctions, out of fatherly love, O Janardana.
He had the Brahmins give me the name Vasusena, and when I reached youth, he arranged for me to take a wife.
From them, O Janardana, sons and grandsons have been born to me; in them, O Krishna, my heart has become bound by the ties of love.
Not for the whole earth, nor for heaps of gold, O Govinda, could I bring myself to act falsely, whether out of joy or fear.
In the house of Dhritarashtra, under Duryodhana's protection, I enjoyed the kingdom without trouble for thirteen years.
Many sacrifices have I performed with the charioteers, and many invitations and marriages have I conducted with them.
After meeting me, Krishna, Duryodhana prepared for war, and thus the conflict with the Pandavas arose, O descendant of Vrishni.
Therefore, Achyuta, in battle, when I am challenged to single combat, Krishna, I have chosen to stand as the chief opponent of Savyasacin.
Whether out of fear of death, bondage, or greed, O Janardana, I am not able to speak falsehood for the sake of the wise son of Dhritarashtra.
If today I do not go to single combat with Arjuna, O Hrishikesha, there will be disgrace for both me and Partha.
Without doubt, for their welfare you should speak, O Madhusudana, and the Pandavas will do everything at your command—of this there is no doubt.
You, O Madhusudana, should regulate the counsel here; this, O joy of the Yadus, I consider to be entirely beneficial.
If the king, righteous and self-controlled, knows me to be the eldest son of Kunti, he will not accept the kingdom.
And even if I obtain the great kingdom, O Madhusudana, I would at once give it, flourishing, to Duryodhana, O subduer of foes.
Let Yudhishthira alone be the eternal, righteous king—he whose guide is Hrishikesha and whose warrior is Dhananjaya.
The earth and its realm belong to him whose mighty charioteer is Bhima, and who has Nakula, Sahadeva, and the sons of Draupadi, O Madhava.
And Drishtadyumna, the Panchala prince, Satyaki the great charioteer, Uttamaujas, Yudhamanyu, and Saumaki, steadfast in truth.
Also the Chedi king, Chekitana, and Shikhandin the unconquered; the Kekaya brothers, with complexions like Indragopa insects; and Kuntibhoja, noble-minded, with the hue of Indra’s weapon.
