Cruel and ignoble words have often been spoken by Karna, Duhshasana, and you as well.
With your mother, you made a great effort to burn those boys in the house at Varanavata, but your plan did not succeed.
Then the Pandavas lived for a long time in hiding with their mother, in the house of a Brahmin at Ekachakra.
You tried to destroy the Pandavas by poison and by binding them with serpents, using every means, but your efforts did not succeed.
Such has always been your attitude toward the Pandavas—deceitful and false; how can you claim to have committed no offense against those great souls?
How can you, who act so wickedly, deserve to remain in the kingdom? You will be cast out from both the kingdom and happiness, O stain of your lineage.
And when they begged for their rightful paternal share, you did not give it; in this, you are sinful, deprived of prosperity, and fallen.
Having committed many cruel and wrongful acts against the Pandavas, you persist in falsehood and ignobility, and yet you oppose them further.
You have been repeatedly told by your mother, father, Bhishma, Drona, and Vidura to make peace, but you do not heed them, O king.
Great gain would come to both you and Partha from peace, but you do not accept it, O king—what else is this but lack of understanding?
You will not find happiness, O king, by rejecting the advice of friends; you are acting unrighteously and bringing disgrace upon yourself.
As the descendant of Dasharha spoke thus to the unyielding Duryodhana, Duhshasana spoke these words in the Kuru assembly.
If you, O king, do not make peace with the Pandavas of your own will, the Kauravas will bind you and hand you over to Kunti's son.
Bhishma, Drona, and your father will deliver Karna, you, and me—these three—to the Pandavas, O bull among men.
Hearing these words from his brother, Suyodhana, son of Dhritarashtra, rose up in anger, breathing like a great serpent.
He then addressed Vidura, Somadatta, King Bahlika, Kripa, Somadatta, Bhishma, Drona, and Janardana.
Disregarding all elders, this wicked-minded, shameless one, lacking in discipline and decorum, proud, has insulted those worthy of honor.
Seeing that bull among men setting out, his brothers, along with their ministers, and all the kings, followed after him.
Beholding Duryodhana, angry and rising from the assembly, departing with his brothers, Bhishma, son of Shantanu, spoke.
He who abandons righteousness and profit, and approves of anger, soon becomes the object of laughter for wicked-hearted men in his misfortune.
This prince, son of Dhritarashtra, is evil-minded and ignorant of proper means; falsely proud of the kingdom, he follows the sway of anger and greed.
O Janardana, I think all the kshatriyas are now ripe for destruction; for, out of delusion, all the kings, along with their ministers, have followed him.
Hearing Bhishma’s words, the lotus-eyed descendant of Dasharha, valiant, addressed all those led by Bhishma and Drona.
This is a great transgression among all the elders of the Kurus, that they do not restrain the king, who, seizing power, acts rashly.
Therefore, O destroyers of foes, I think the time has come for action; if it is done, it will bring good—listen to all of it, O sinless ones.
What I am about to say is evident to you; it is wholesome advice. If it pleases you, O Bharatas, for your welfare, accept it.
The son of the Bhoja king was indeed wicked and lacking in self-control; having seized his living father’s power, he met his end.
Kamsa, son of Ugrasena, was abandoned by his relatives; for the good of his kin, I slew him in great battle.
Afterwards, Ahuka was honored by us and by his kinsmen; Ugrasena was made king, the enhancer of the Bhoja dynasty.
All the Yadavas, abandoning one for the sake of the clan, united and now live happily, O Bharatas, Andhakas, and Vrishnis.
