'I have heard this before, O brāhmaṇa, why speak at length? This matter is desired by me, O best of brāhmaṇas, as soon as I heard it.'
'And this is greatly valued by me, that, leaving other kings aside, you have come to me in this way; this will surely come to pass.'
'That same wealth is not now with me, O Gālava, not even for horses; but I too will beget a single son on her, O king.'
Having said 'So be it,' the best of brāhmaṇas gave the maiden to the king; and the king accepted her according to proper rites.

In the same way, Madhavi, enjoying herself with King Divodasa, gave birth to a single son, Pratardana.
Then the venerable Galava approached Divodasa, O king, when the appointed time had arrived, and spoke these words.
Let the king give me the maiden, and let the horses remain; until I go elsewhere, O lord of the earth, to seek the bride-price.
Then Divodasa, righteous in soul, at the appointed time, gave Galava the maiden, steadfast in truth, O king.
In the same way, renouncing her prosperity and becoming a maiden, the illustrious Madhavi, steadfast in her vow, approached Galava the sage.
Galava, reflecting and intent upon his purpose, went to Bhojanagara to see King Ushinara.
Having gone to the king, Satyavikrama, he spoke: 'This maiden will bear you two royal sons.'
'Through her, you will obtain your desire, both here and hereafter; after begetting two sons, radiant like the moon and sun, O king.'
'As bride-price, O knower of all dharma, four hundred horses with one black ear, shining like the moon, must be given to me.'
'This undertaking is for my teacher; I have no use for the horses myself. If it is possible, O great king, let it be done without hesitation.'
'You are childless, O royal sage; beget two sons, O king. By the raft of sons, rescue your ancestors and yourself.'
'For a royal sage who enjoys the fruit of sons does not fall from heaven, nor does he go to the dreadful hell where the childless depart.'
Having heard this and other various words spoken by Galava, Ushinara, the lord of men, gave him a reply.
'I have heard your words, Galava, just as you say. But fate is powerful, O Brahman; my mind inclines toward it.'
O best of Brahmins, I have two hundred such horses, and besides these, I possess many thousands of others.
I too will beget only one child on her, O Galava, and then, like others who have fulfilled their purpose, I will depart.
