Today my birth is fulfilled, today my debt is crossed; today, O sinless Tarkshya, my land is delivered by you.
But, friend, I wish to tell you as you knew me before: I am not so wealthy now; my wealth, friend, is diminished.
Nor am I able, O bird, to let your coming be in vain; nor can I bear to disappoint the hope of this suppliant.
I will give my daughter; whatever is to be done, she will accomplish. For when a hopeful man turns away disappointed, he burns his lineage.
Nothing more sinful than this is spoken of, O son of Vinata: to say in the world to one who hopes, 'There is nothing to give.'
For a man who is disappointed and unfulfilled, yet honored, brings harm to the sons and grandsons of the one who does him no good.

She is famed as equal to the daughter of the gods, the supporter of all duties; always desired by gods, men, and asuras for her beauty, O Galava, let my daughter be accepted by you.
Kings will give even their kingdoms as her bride-price; what then of two pairs of black-eared horses?
Let him accept my daughter Madhavi; I shall have grandsons, and this, O lord, is my wish.
Hearing his words, the Brahmin of firm vows, Galava, accepted the maiden with the bird, saying, 'We shall return again,' and departed with her.
Having found this means to obtain the horses, the son of Vinata, taking leave of Galava, returned to his own abode.
When the king of the birds had departed, Gālava, together with the maiden, went to a king who was able to give the dowry, pondering over the matter.
As he went, he thought of Ikṣvāku's descendant Haryaśva, the foremost among kings, of great might, possessing a fourfold army, in Ayodhyā.
He was endowed with wealth, grain, and strength, beloved by his citizens, dear to the twice-born, desirous of offspring, tranquil, and engaged in supreme austerity.
Approaching Haryaśva, the king, the brāhmaṇa Gālava spoke: 'This maiden of mine, O king, will increase your lineage through sons.'
'Let this maiden, Haryaśva, be accepted by you as a wife for a bride-price; I will proclaim your gift as fame—having heard this, consider it well.'

'Let us go there, O blessed one; come slowly, do not grieve. He is righteous, disciplined, and a lord of people devoted to truth.'
Having approached him, the sage was duly honored by him; Gālava urged that king for the sake of offspring.
'I have heard this before, O brāhmaṇa, why speak at length? This matter is desired by me, O best of brāhmaṇas, as soon as I heard it.'
'And this is greatly valued by me, that, leaving other kings aside, you have come to me in this way; this will surely come to pass.'
'That same wealth is not now with me, O Gālava, not even for horses; but I too will beget a single son on her, O king.'
Having said 'So be it,' the best of brāhmaṇas gave the maiden to the king; and the king accepted her according to proper rites.
