Sātyaki, the grandson of Śini, swiftly acquired all the knowledge of arms from Arjuna; he will stand firm in battle, sowing arrows like seeds.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Drupada, fierce in deeds and a great chariot-warrior, will wage war against my forces, being an expert in supreme weapons.
From the wrath of Yudhiṣṭhira, the valor of Arjuna, from Bhīmasena and myself, O dear one, fear arises in me.
A web of superhuman illusion has been spread by these kings; my troops will not cross it, and therefore I lament, O Sañjaya.
The son of Pāṇḍu is admirable, resolute, endowed with fortune and the radiance of Brahman, intelligent, wise in action, and righteous in soul.
He is well-supported by friends and ministers, skilled in the art of war, and surrounded by brothers, heroic fathers-in-law, and great chariot-warriors.
That tiger among men, the Pāṇḍava, is steadfast and discreet, gentle and generous, possessing icy resolve and true valor.
He is learned, self-controlled, respectful to elders, master of his senses—endowed with all virtues, like a blazing fire.
Who, but a fool, would approach him as he blazes, like a moth rushing into fire, wishing for death, against the unstoppable Pāṇḍava fire?
That king, tall and radiant like a flaming banner, whom I have falsely maligned, will bring an end to my foolish sons through battle.
Therefore, I consider peace preferable to war with them, O Kurus; know this—war will surely bring the destruction of the entire lineage.
This is my highest counsel, by which my mind finds peace; if you desire peace without war, let us strive for reconciliation.
But Yudhiṣṭhira would not overlook our suffering; he despises unrighteousness, especially when I am the cause.
So it is, O great king, as you have said, descendant of Bharata; the destruction of the kṣatriya order in battle is evident through Arjuna's bow.
But this I do not understand about you, steadfast one: that you, wise as you are, have come under the sway of your son.
This is not the time, O great king, for you, who have always committed wrongs; for from the beginning, O bull of the Bharatas, you have deceived the Pāṇḍavas.
A father is the highest friend, truly devoted and well-intentioned; what he advises for your good should be followed, for a teacher is not one who would betray you.
When you heard, 'This is won, this is gained,' and the others were defeated at the game, O great king, you remembered it like a child.
When harsh words were spoken before, you ignored the sons of Pandu, thinking the entire kingdom would be yours in victory, not seeing the downfall ahead.
The ancestral kingdom, O great king, of the Kurus with their lands, and then the whole earth conquered by heroes, you accepted.
The land won by the strength of their arms was offered to you by the sons of Pandu; yet you, best of kings, think, 'This was done by me alone.'
When your sons were seized by the king of the Gandharvas and were drowning in the water with no escape, it was Partha who brought them back, O best of kings.
Like a child, you smiled when the Pandavas were defeated at dice, O king, and again and again when they went into exile in the forest.
Even the oceans would dry up before the many sharp arrows Arjuna showers; how much more so the rivers that flow only for a month.
Let Phalguna, the best of archers, string Gandiva, the foremost bow; let Keshava, the Sudarshana among all weapons, and the radiant monkey-banner, the best of standards, be present.
Such is the chariot that bears them together in battle; he will destroy us, O king, like the wheel of time set in motion.
Today, O king, the entire earth belongs to him whose warriors are Bhima and Arjuna; that king, best of kings, is truly sovereign.
Seeing your army, led by Duryodhana, sinking as if struck by Bhima's might, the Kauravas will meet their destruction.
Your sons, O great king, and the kings who follow them, will not win victory, for they fear neither Bhima nor Arjuna.
Today the Matsyas do not honor you, nor the Panchalas with the Kekayas, nor the Salveyas and Shurasenas; all of them disregard you.
