हतप्रवीरं विमुखं भयार्तं पराङ्मुखं प्रायशोऽनष्टयोधम्। शस्त्रार्चिषा भिमसेनेन दग्धं तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्त्सत्
When their champions are slain, their faces turned away in fear, most fleeing without fighting, burned by Bhimasena's blazing weapons, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
उपासङ्गानाचरेद्दक्षिणेन वराङ्गानां नकुलश्चित्रयोधी। यदा रथाग्र्यो रथिनः प्रचेता तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
Nakula, the distinguished warrior, would attack the enemy's best troops from the right flank; when the foremost charioteer confronts the chariot warriors, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
सुखोचितो दुःखशय्यां वनेषु दीर्घं कालं नकुलो यामशेत। आशीविषः क्रुद्ध इवोद्वमन्विषं तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
Nakula, accustomed to comfort, would lie on a bed of hardship in the forests for a long time; like an angry serpent spewing venom, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
त्यक्तात्मानः पार्थिवायोधनाय समादिष्टा धर्मराजेन सूत। रथैः शुभ्रैः सैन्यमभिद्रवन्तो दृष्ट्वा पश्चात्तप्स्यते धार्तराष्ट्रः
Commanded by King Yudhishthira, the princes, abandoning concern for their lives, would charge the army with splendid chariots; seeing this, the Dhārtarāṣṭra would later regret.
शिशून्कृतास्त्रानशिशुप्रकाशान् यदा द्रष्टा कौरवः पञ्च शूरान्। त्यक्त्वा प्राणान्कौरवानाद्रवन्त- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When the Kaurava sees the five heroes, skilled in weapons yet appearing as children, abandoning their lives and rushing at the Kauravas, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
यथा शक्रो दानवनाशनार्थं सुवर्णतारं रथमुत्तमाश्वैः। दान्तैर्युक्तं सहदेवोऽधिरूढः शिरांसि राज्ञां क्षेप्स्यते मार्गणौघैः
Just as Indra, to destroy the demons, mounts a golden chariot drawn by supreme horses, so Sahadeva, yoked with noble steeds, will hurl volleys of arrows at the kings' heads.
महाभये संप्रवृत्ते रथस्थं विवर्तमानं समरे कृतास्त्रम्। सर्वा दिशः सपतन्तं समीक्ष्य तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When great danger arises, and he sees Sahadeva, standing in his chariot, turning in battle, weapons ready, flying in all directions, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
ह्रीनिषेवो निपुणः सत्यवादी महाबलः सर्वधर्मोपपन्नः। गान्धारिमार्छंस्तुमुले क्षिप्रकारी क्षेप्ता जनान्सहदेवस्तरस्वी
Sahadeva, modest, skilled, truthful, mighty, endowed with all virtues, swift to act at Gandhāra's root, will cast down men with speed.
यदा द्रष्टा द्रौपदेयान्महेषून् शूरान्कृतास्त्रान्रथयुद्धकोविदान्। आशीविषान्घोरविषानिवायत- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When he sees the sons of Draupadī, great archers, heroes skilled in chariot warfare, fierce as venomous serpents, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
यदाभिमन्युः परवीरघाती शरैः परान्मेघ इवाभिवर्षन्। विगाहिता कृष्णसमः कृतास्त्र- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When Abhimanyu, destroyer of enemy heroes, showers arrows upon foes like clouds pouring rain, entering the fray equal to Krishna, weapons ready, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
यदा द्रष्टा बालमबालवीर्यं द्विषच्चमूं मृत्युमिवोत्पतन्तम्। सौभद्रमिन्द्रप्रतिमं कृतास्त्रं तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When he sees the boy, whose strength is not childish, rushing at the enemy host like death itself, Saubhadra, equal to Indra, weapons ready, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
प्रभद्रकाः शीघ्रतरा युवानो विशारदाः सिंहसमानवीर्याः। यदा क्षेप्तारो धार्तराष्ट्रान्ससैन्यां- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
The Prabhadrakas, swift young men, skilled and lion-like in strength, when they hurl themselves at the Dhārtarāṣṭras and their army, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
वृद्धौ विराटद्रुपदौ महारथौ पथक्कमूभ्यामभिवर्तमानौ। यदा द्रष्टारौ धार्तराष्ट्रान्ससैन्यां- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When the elder warriors, Virāṭa and Drupada, great chariot fighters, advance together on the battlefield, and confront the Dhārtarāṣṭras and their army, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
यदा कृतास्त्रो द्रुपदः प्रचिन्वन् शिरांसि यूनां समरे रथस्थः। क्रूद्धः शरैश्छेत्स्यति चापमुक्तै- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When Drupada, weapons ready, standing in his chariot, seeks out the heads of young men in battle, fiercely cutting them with arrows released from his bow, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.
यदा विराटः परवीरघाती रथान्तरे शत्रुचमूं प्रवेष्टा। मात्स्यैः सार्धमनृशंसरूपै- स्तदा युद्धं धार्तराष्ट्रोऽन्वतप्स्यत्
When Virāṭa, destroyer of enemy heroes, enters the enemy host in his chariot, together with the Matsyas, who are merciless in form, then the Dhārtarāṣṭra would suffer in battle.

रणे हते कौरवाणां प्रवीरे शिखण्डिना शन्तनोर्वै तनूजे। न जातु नः शत्रवो धारयेयु- रशंशयं सत्यमेतद्ब्रवीति
When the foremost of the Kauravas is slain in battle by Shikhandin, the son of Santanu, then surely our enemies will not endure—this is the truth he speaks without doubt.

ह्रीमान्मनीपी बलवान्मनस्वी स लक्ष्मीवान्सोमकानां प्रबर्हः । न जातु तं शत्रवोऽन्ये सहेर- न्योपां स स्यादग्रणीर्वृष्णिसिंहः
He is modest, noble, strong, and resolute, adorned with fortune, the foremost among the Somakas; no other enemy could withstand him—let the lion of the Vrishnis be their leader.
इदं च ब्रूया मा वृणीष्वेति लोके युद्धेऽद्वितीयं सचिवं रथस्थम्। शिनेर्नप्तारं प्रवृणीम सात्यकिं महाबलं वीतभयं कृतास्त्रम्
And say this: 'Do not choose anyone else as your peer in battle or as your charioteer in the world; we select Satyaki, the grandson of Sini, mighty, fearless, and accomplished in weapons.'
महोरस्को दीर्घबाहुः प्रमाथी युद्धेऽद्वितीयः परमास्त्रवेदी। शिनेर्नप्ता तालमात्रायधोऽयं महारथो वीतभयः कृतास्त्रः
Broad-chested, long-armed, a destroyer, second to none in battle, supreme knower of weapons, the grandson of Sini, as tall as a palm tree, is a great chariot-warrior, fearless and skilled in arms.

यदा धृतिं कुरुते योत्स्यमानः स दीर्घबाहुर्दृढधन्वा महात्मा । सिंहस्येव गन्धमाघ्राय गावः संचेष्टन्ते शत्रवोऽस्माद्रणाग्रे
When that long-armed, steadfast, mighty soul, firm with his bow, resolves to fight, then, as cows stir at the scent of a lion, so will our enemies tremble before him at the front of battle.
स दीर्घबाहुर्दृढधन्वा महात्मा भिन्द्याद्गिरीन्संहरेत्सर्वलोकान्। अस्त्रे कृती निपुणः क्षिप्रहस्तो दिवि स्थितः सूर्य इवाभिभाति
That long-armed, firm-bowed, great-souled one could shatter mountains and destroy all worlds; skilled in weapons, swift-handed, he shines in the sky like the sun.
चित्रः सूक्ष्मः सुकृतो यादवस्य अस्त्रे योगो वृष्णिसिंहस्य भूयान्। यथाविधं योगमाहुः प्रशस्तं सर्वैर्गुणैः सात्यकिस्तैरुपेतः
The Yadava's skill in weapons is remarkable, subtle, and well-practiced; the lion of the Vrishnis possesses great mastery. As the wise declare the highest yoga in arms, so Satyaki is endowed with all those virtues.
हिरण्मयं श्वेतहयैश्चतुर्भि- र्यदा युक्तं स्यन्दनं माधवस्य। द्रष्टा युद्धे सात्यकेर्धार्तराष्ट्र- स्तदा तप्स्यत्यकृतात्मा स मन्दः
When Madhava's chariot, golden and drawn by four white horses, is seen in battle with Satyaki, then that dull-witted, unprepared son of Dhritarashtra will suffer.
यदा रथं हेममणिप्रकाशं श्वेताश्वयुक्तं वानरकेतुमुग्रम्। दृष्ट्वा ममाप्यास्थितं केशवेन तदा तप्स्यत्यकृतात्मा स मन्दः
When the radiant chariot, shining with gold and jewels, yoked to white horses and bearing the fierce banner of the monkey, is seen with Kesava standing upon it, then that dull, unprepared one will suffer.
यदा मौर्व्यास्तलनिष्पेपमुग्रं महाशब्दं वज्रनिष्पेपतुल्यम्। विद्यूयमानस्य महारणे मया स गाण्डिवस्य श्रोष्यति मन्दबुद्धिः
When the fierce, thunderous twang of the Gandiva bow, strung with sinew and likened to the crash of thunder, is heard from me as I draw it in the great battle, then that dull-witted one will hear it.
