Then, when the thirteenth year had ended, the five Pandavas took up residence in the splendid city of Upaplavya, belonging to King Virata.
The son of Kunti and King Virata sent messengers to all their friends, relatives, and allies.

As they sat there, with messengers dispatched in every direction, the mighty-armed, garlanded one, younger brother of Balarama, arrived.

At that time, having heard the message of the envoy, Janardana, together with his beloved sister's son, the honored Abhimanyu, and accompanied by Rama, set out.
Surrounded by all the foremost Yadavas and accompanied by the sounds of conches and drums, the slayer of enemy heroes entered the city of Virata.

All these destroyers of foes, together with their mothers, brought Abhimanyu and, accompanied by Krishna, came to see the Pandavas.
Indrasena and others, all well-prepared with their chariots, came together, having spent the year in exile.
There were ten thousand elephants, twice as many horses, a full hundred thousand chariots, and countless foot soldiers.
Hundreds of Vrishnis and Andhakas, and the mighty Bhojas, all regarded Vāsudeva, the powerful tiger among the Vrishnis, as their leader.
Hearing that Vāsudeva was approaching, the sons of Pandu, together with the Matsya king, all went out to meet Janardana.

With the auspicious sounds of conches and drums, all the Pandavas, together with the Matsya king, joyfully greeted Janardana, bowing at his feet, their eyes overflowing with tears of happiness.
O Krishna, by your grace, O descendant of Dasharha, we have spent these thirteen years in full, just as the agreement required.
We have dwelt, O Lord of the universe, O Janardana, with you as our protector; O Lord of gods and masters of the divine, protect us, for we have taken refuge in you, O noble one.
Janardana swiftly embraced those Vandumas, surrounded by all the Yadavas, as companions of Virata.
With utmost joy, he honored them as was fitting; and the heroic Vrishnis, in turn, received them as was proper.
Krishna, daughter of Drupada, bowed at the feet of the son of Devaki; raising her, smoothing her beautiful hair and eyes, the lord of the gods spoke to her in the presence of all the Yadavas.
Do not grieve, O blessed one; the Dhartarashtras are gathered. Soon, together with Partha, I will overthrow them and reclaim the earth.
I will give the kingdom to Yudhishthira; let your mental anguish depart. By Abhimanyu, Partha, and the son of Rukmini, I swear this to you.
Know this word of mine to be true, O blameless one. Having spoken thus, he released her, pleased, and the tiger among the Vrishnis followed Yudhishthira, along with the Vrishnis and Andhakas.
The king of Kashi and Shaibya, both Bhajamanas, approached Yudhishthira, accompanied by two divisions of troops.

Dhrishtadyumna, indomitable and foremost among all wielders of weapons, quickly went to Upaplavya for the Pandavas' cause, with his mighty warriors.
Then hundreds of thousands, tens of millions, and crores of warriors approached, forming the army of Yudhishthira.
Like streams filling the ocean at the end of a sacrifice, the kings, generous givers, accomplished in Vedic rites, heroic and self-sacrificing, filled the land separately.
Seeing those who had arrived, Partha, best among the wise, honored the foremost kings properly, according to the rites.

The kings and princes, when the time was fulfilled, departed, honored by the foremost Pandavas as was fitting; their hearts were delighted, and they gave gifts in return.
When all the kings had assembled with the Vrishnis, O king, the wedding between the Kurus and Matsyas was celebrated according to the rites.
Then conches, drums, cow-horns, and kettledrums resounded at Abhimanyu's wedding, in the palace of the Matsya king.
