तपसा चैव गुप्तास्ते स्ववीर्येण च पाण्डवाः। न नाशमभिगच्छेयुरिति मे नैष्ठिकी मतिः ।। 20
Protected by austerity and their own strength, the Pandavas will not meet destruction—this is my firm conviction.
क्षत्रधर्मरता नित्यं केशवानुगताः सदा। प्रवीरपुरुषास्ते वै महात्मानो महाबलाः ।। 21
Always devoted to the warrior's dharma, ever following Keśava, those mighty men are truly great-souled and of immense strength.
तत्र बुद्धिं प्रवक्ष्यामि पाण्डवान्वेषणे शृणु। न तु नीतिः सुनीतस्य शक्यते वेदितुं परैः ।। 22
Now I shall declare my judgment regarding the search for the Pandavas; listen. Yet the policy of one who is well-guided cannot be discerned by others.
यत्तु शक्यमिहास्माभिस्तान्वै संचिन्त्य पाण्डवान्। बुद्ध्या प्रणेतुं तत्तेऽहं प्रवक्ष्यामि निबोध तत् ।। 23
Whatever can be accomplished by us here, considering the Pandavas, I shall lay out for you with reason; listen and understand.
न त्वियं साधु वक्तव्या तस्य नीतिः कथंचन । वृद्धानुशासने तात तिष्ठतः सत्यशीलिनः ।। 24
Yet, it is not proper to speak ill of them, nor of their policy, for they stand firm in the guidance of elders and possess truthfulness of character.
अयुक्तं तु मया वक्तुं तुल्या मे कुरुपाण्डवाः। निवासं पाण्डुपुत्राणां संचिन्त्य च वदाम्यहम्। बहुना किं प्रलापेन यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः ।। 25
It is not fitting for me to speak otherwise; the Kurus and Pandavas are equal to me. Considering the dwelling of the sons of Pandu, I shall speak. Why prolong the discussion? Where there is dharma, there is victory.
अवश्यं तु नियुक्तेन सभामध्ये विवक्षता। यथार्हमिह वक्तव्यं सर्वथा धर्मलिप्सया ।। 26
Yet, when one is compelled to speak in the midst of the assembly, it must be spoken as is appropriate, always with the desire for righteousness.
यत्र नाहं तथा मन्ये यथाऽन्ये मेनिरे जनाः। निवासं पाण्डुपुत्राणां शृणुष्वं मनुजाधिप ।। 27
Where I do not think as others have thought regarding the dwelling of the sons of Pandu—listen, O king of men.
[भ्रातृभिः सहितो वीरैः कृष्णया च महायशाः। किमर्थं स महाराजो नात्मश्रेयो भविष्यति ।। 28
[Accompanied by his heroic brothers and by Kṛṣṇā of great fame, why should that great king not attain his own welfare?]
पाण्डवो निकृतः पूर्वं यथावद्विदितं तव। क्लेशितश्च पुरे नित्यं राज्यकामैश्च सांप्रतम्। छन्नश्चरति तस्मात्स प्रकृत्या नीतिमान्नृपः ।। 29
The Pandava was previously deceived, as you well know, and has always suffered in the city, now also troubled by those desiring the kingdom. Therefore, he moves concealed, for he is by nature a man of policy, O king.
वर्षमेकं सुसंच्छन्नमुष्य वासमनुत्तमम्। आयाति चोदये काले क्षिप्रं दक्ष्यसि पाण्डवं ।। 30
For one year, his excellent residence has been well hidden; when the time comes, you will quickly discover the Pandava.
सोदरैः सहितं वीरं द्रौपद्या च परंतप। संविधत्स्व महाबाहो यथा नः स्यात्सुखोदयः ।। 31
With his brothers and with Draupadī, the mighty hero—make arrangements, O strong-armed one, so that happiness may arise for us.
यस्मिन्स राजा वसति च्छन्नः सत्त्वभृतांवरः। भविष्यन्ति नरास्तत्र रागमोहविवर्जिताः ।। 32
Wherever that king, the foremost among beings, resides in concealment, there the people will be free from attachment and delusion.
नाधयो हि महाराज न व्याधिः क्षत्रियर्षभ]। पुरे जनपदे वाऽपि यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 33
O great king, neither poverty nor disease will exist in the city or countryside where Yudhishthira is king, O bull among Kshatriyas.
दानशीलो वदान्यश्च निभृतो ह्रीनिषेवकः। प्रियवाक्सत्यवाक्शूरो धर्मशीलो जितेन्द्रियः। हृष्टः पुष्टः शुचिर्दक्षो यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 34
Where Yudhishthira is king, there will be generosity, eloquence, restraint, reverence for modesty, pleasant and truthful speech, courage, righteousness, mastery over the senses, joy, strength, purity, and skill.
नासूयको न चापीर्ष्युर्नाभिमानी न मत्सरी। भविष्यति जनस्तत्र स्वयं धर्ममनुव्रतः ।। 35
There, the people will not be envious, nor jealous, nor arrogant, nor malicious; they will themselves be devoted to righteousness.
ब्रह्मघोषाश्च भूयांसः पुण्यशब्दास्तथैव च। क्रतवश्च भविष्यन्ति भूयांसो भूरिदक्षिणाः ।। 36
There will be abundant recitations of sacred texts, auspicious sounds, and many sacrificial rites performed with generous gifts.
सदा च तत्र पर्जन्यः सम्यग्वर्षी न संशयः । संपन्नसस्या च मही भविष्यति निरामया ।। 37
There, the rain will always fall properly, without doubt, and the earth will yield abundant crops, free from disease.
रसवन्ति च धान्यानि गुणवन्ति फलानि च। गन्धवन्ति च माल्यानि शुभशब्दा च भारती ।। 38
The grains will be flavorful, the fruits will possess good qualities, the garlands will be fragrant, and speech will be auspicious.
वायुश्च सुखसंस्पर्शो यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः । नीरोगास्तत्र विद्यन्ते वधबन्धा न सन्ति च ।। 39
Where Yudhishthira is king, the wind will be pleasant to the touch, the people will be free from illness, and there will be no killings or imprisonments.
न चोरा न च दण्डाश्च न च बाधा भवन्त्युत। नाशक्ता न च दुष्टाश्च यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 40
There will be no thieves, no punishments, no afflictions, no helpless or wicked people where Yudhishthira is king.
भयं च नाविशेत्तत्र निष्प्रतीपं च दर्शनम्। बहुक्षीरास्तथा गावः सुपुष्टाश्च सुदोहनाः ।। 41
Fear will not enter there, and the appearance will be tranquil; the cows will yield much milk, be well-nourished, and easy to milk.
पयांसि दधिसर्पीषि रसवन्ति हितानि च । सलिलानि प्रसन्नानि सर्वे भावाश्च शोभनाः ।। 42
The milk, curd, and ghee will be flavorful and beneficial; the waters will be clear, and all things will be beautiful.
गुणवन्ति च पानानि भोज्यानि विविधानि च। तत्र देशे भविष्यन्ति यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 43
There, in that land where Yudhishthira is king, drinks and foods of various kinds will possess good qualities.
रसाः स्पर्शाश्च गन्धाश्च शब्दाश्चापि गुणान्विताः। दृश्यानि च प्रसन्नानि यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 44
Where Yudhishthira is king, tastes, touches, scents, sounds, and sights will all be endowed with excellence and clarity.
धर्माश्च तत्र सर्वैस्तु सेविताश्च द्विजातिभिः। स्वैःस्वैर्गुणैश्च संयुक्ता कस्मिन्वर्षे त्रयोदशे । देशे तस्मिन्भविष्यन्ति तत पाण्डवसंश्रिते ।। 45
There, in the thirteenth year, all the twice-born will practice righteousness, each endowed with their own virtues, in that land sheltered by the Pandavas.
संप्रीतिमाञ्जनस्तत्र संतुष्टः शुचिरव्ययः। देवतातिथिभूयांस्तु सर्वभूतानुरागवान् ।। 46
There, the people will be joyful, content, pure, and unchanging, abundant in devotion to gods and guests, and full of affection for all beings.
इष्टदानमहोत्साहा नित्यं धर्मपरायणाः । व्यक्तवाक्यास्ततस्तात शुभकल्याणमङ्गलाः ।। 47
Always enthusiastic in giving and sacrifice, ever devoted to righteousness, their speech will be clear, and they will be auspicious and blessed, O dear one.
शुभत्विषः शुभेच्छाश्च नित्यतुष्टाः श्रियाऽन्विताः । भविष्यन्ति जनास्तत्र यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 48
Where Yudhishthira is king, the people will have radiant beauty, noble desires, constant satisfaction, and be endowed with prosperity.
नित्योत्सवप्रमुदितो नित्यहृष्टः श्रिया वृतः। भविष्यति निवासोऽयं यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः ।। 49
Where Yudhishthira is king, the dwelling will be ever festive, ever joyful, and surrounded by prosperity.
