Then all the monkeys, along with Lakshmana, upon hearing Rama's words, became as if lifeless and motionless.
Then the god with pure soul, the four-faced creator born from the lotus, appeared to Rama in his celestial chariot.
Indra, Agni, Vayu, Yama, Varuna, the lord of the Yakshas, and the seven pure sages also appeared.
King Dasharatha too, radiant in a divine form, arrived in a splendid, shining chariot drawn by swans.
Then the entire sky, crowded with gods and Gandharvas, shone like the autumn night sky adorned with stars.
Then Vaidehi, renowned among them, rose up and, virtuous, spoke these words to Rama, broad-chested.
Prince, I do not make you angry, for I know the fate of women and men; listen now to my words.
The wind, who moves secretly among beings, is always my witness; let him take my life if I have done wrong.
Let fire, water, ether, earth, and wind take my life if I have committed any sin.
As I, O hero, have never even in a dream thought of anyone but you, so let the gods declare: you alone are my husband.
Then a blessed, auspicious voice was heard in the sky, witnessed by all worlds, bringing joy to those great monkeys.
O Raghava, truly, I am the wind, always moving; Maithili is without sin, O king—go forth with your wife.
I dwell within the bodies of beings, O descendant of Raghu; even the subtlest fault does not attach to Maithili, O Kakutstha.
For the vital fluids in beings' bodies arise from me, O Raghava; I tell you truly—accept Maithili.
O Kakutstha, I am Dharma itself, the witness of the deeds of the world; O Sita, who is without sin, let her be accepted.
My son, this is not a wonder in you, who are steadfast in the royal sage's duty; O righteous one of noble conduct, Kakutstha, listen now to my words.
O hero, you have slain this enemy of the gods, Gandharvas, serpents, Yakshas, Danavas, and great sages.
By my favor, he was once invulnerable to all beings; for some reason, this wicked one was neglected for a certain time.
For the sake of his own destruction, that evil-minded one abducted Sita; by the curse of Nalakuvara, her protection was ensured by me.
If he had approached her against her will, or any other woman, his head would have split into a hundred pieces as foretold in former times.
You need have no doubt here, O great-minded one; accept her. You have accomplished a great deed for the gods, O one of immeasurable splendor.
I am pleased, my child, blessings to you; I am your father Dasharatha. I grant you the kingdom—rule, O best of men.
O king of kings, if you, Janaka, my father-in-law, permit me, I will return to the delightful city of Ayodhya at your command.
Then his father, delighted, spoke again to him, O best of the Bharatas: 'Go to Ayodhya and rule, O Rama of red eyes, for the full fourteen years.'
Then, having saluted the gods and being honored for a moment, he, like Mahendra with his wife Paulomi, returned.
Then the scorcher of foes granted a boon to Avindhya, and joined the Rakshasi Trijata with the two who sought her.
Then Brahma, with the gods, Indra, and the hosts of immortals, spoke: 'O Kausalya's son, I now grant you the boons you desire.'
Rama chose steadfastness in righteousness, invincibility over enemies, and the rebirth of the vanaras slain by the Rakshasas.
Then, when Brahma had spoken and they replied, 'So be it,' O great king, the vanaras, their minds restored, arose.
And Sita, greatly fortunate, granted a boon to Hanuman: 'O son, your life shall endure as long as Rama's fame.'
