Krishna, Krishna, mighty-armed, imperishable son of Devaki, Vasudeva, Lord of the universe, destroyer of the suffering of those who seek refuge.
Soul of the universe, progenitor of all, destroyer of the world, unfailing Lord; protector of those who surrender, guardian of cows, guardian of people, supreme among the supreme; initiator of intentions and thoughts, I bow to you.
Most excellent, bestower of boons, endless one, giver of refuge to those without shelter; ancient person, beyond the reach of mind and senses, source of life and thought.
Overseer of all, supreme overseer, I have sought your shelter; protect me, O compassionate Lord, lover of those who seek refuge.
With skin dark as a blue lotus petal, eyes red as the heart of a lotus, clad in yellow garments, adorned with the shining Kaustubha jewel.
You are the beginning and end of all beings, and their ultimate refuge; supreme light beyond all, soul of the universe, facing all directions.
You alone are called the supreme seed, the repository of all wealth; with you as Lord, O god of gods, there is no fear from any calamity.
Just as you freed me before in the assembly from Duhshasana, so too now you ought to rescue me from this distress.
Thus praised by Krishna, the devotee-loving Lord, knowing Draupadi's distress, the god of gods, master of the world,
Leaving Rukmini, who lay beside him, the Lord Kesava, with inconceivable speed, hastened and arrived there.
Then Draupadi, seeing him, bowed with great joy and told Vasudeva about the sage's arrival and related matters.
Then Krishna said to her, 'I am hungry and greatly distressed; quickly feed me, O Krishna, afterwards you may do everything else.'
Hearing these words, Krishna, embarrassed, replied, 'In the pot given by the sun, the food for my meal is finished.'
'I have already eaten, O Lord, so there is no food left.' Then the lotus-eyed Bhagavan spoke to Krishna.
'Krishna, this is not the time for jest; I am afflicted by hunger and exhaustion. Quickly go, bring my pot, and show it to me.'
Thus urged, the bearer of the Yadu name brought the pot; and Kesava saw a morsel of vegetable food stuck to its rim.
Having made use of the offering, Hari the Lord, the soul of the universe, said: 'May the god be pleased, may he be satisfied,' for he is the recipient of sacrifice.
Krishna, mighty-armed and destroyer of affliction, said to Bhimasena: 'Quickly summon the sages for a meal.'
Then Bhimasena, renowned and swift, went to gather all the sages for the meal, O best of kings, who had gone to bathe in the divine river, Durvasa and the others.
They descended into the water and performed the ritual of cleansing sin; seeing the remnants of food, they were filled with utmost satisfaction, and emerging from the water, they looked at one another.
Seeing Durvasa, all the sages said: 'Having been called by the king for food, we have come here to bathe.'
O illustrious sage, we are fully satisfied; what shall we eat now? The cooking was done in vain by us—what should we do here?
By cooking in vain, we have committed a great offense against the royal sage; let not the Pandavas, with fierce gaze, reproach us upon seeing us.
Remembering the power of the wise royal sage Ambarisha, I am greatly afraid, O Brahmins, of those who take refuge in Hari's feet.
And the Pandavas, all great souls, devoted to righteousness, heroic, skilled in knowledge, steadfast in vows and austerity.
Always engaged in good conduct, devoted to Vasudeva; if angered, they could burn like fire consumes a heap of cotton. Thus, without asking them, the disciples quickly fled.
Thus addressed by their guru, all the Brahmins at that time, greatly afraid of the Pandavas, fled in all directions.
Bhimasena, searching at the river, did not see the eminent sages; he wandered at the river's ford, seeking them.
There, hearing from the ascetics about their flight, he approached Yudhishthira and reported the incident.
Then all the Pandavas, desiring the arrival of the guests, waited for some time, self-controlled and steadfast.
