He said to him, 'I am difficult to withstand and grant boons.'
Choose a boon, good fortune to you, whatever is in your mind; when I am pleased, there is nothing righteous that is unattainable for you.
Hearing these words of the great sage, whose soul was intent, Suyodhana thought himself born anew.
Already, Karna, Duhshasana, and the others had advised him: 'When the sage is pleased, he should be asked for something,' so that wicked-minded one had resolved.
Overflowing with great joy, O King, he asked him for this boon: 'Just as you have become a guest for me along with your disciples—'
'In our lineage, the great king Yudhishthira is the eldest and best; he dwells in the forest, righteous-souled, surrounded by his brothers, endowed with virtues and good conduct—be his guest.'
'And when that royal maiden, delicate and renowned, has fed all the Brahmins and her husbands, she of excellent complexion—'
'And when she herself has rested, eaten, and is comfortably seated, then you should go there—if you wish to show me favor.'
Saying, 'So I shall do, for your sake,' thus addressed Suyodhana; and Durvasa, the best of Brahmins, departed as he had come.
Even though his purpose was accomplished, Suyodhana then considered himself fulfilled, and, greatly delighted, took Karna's hand in his own.
Karna, together with his brothers, joyfully said to the king: 'By good fortune your desire has been well accomplished; by good fortune, Kaurava, you prosper; by good fortune your enemies are sunk in the unfathomable ocean of calamity.'
The sons of Pandu have fallen into the fire of Durvasa's wrath; by their own great sins, they have entered an impenetrable darkness.
Thus those kings, Duryodhana and the rest, skilled in deceit, laughing and pleased at heart, went each to his own dwelling.
Then, at some time, Durvasa, knowing that the Pandavas were comfortably seated and that Krishna was present in that forest, came there with his disciples, numbering ten thousand.
Seeing that guest approaching, the glorious king Yudhishthira, along with his brothers and Achyuta, went forward to meet him.
With hands joined in reverence, he properly seated him on a splendid seat, honored him according to custom as a guest, and invited him, saying, 'O blessed one, having performed your daily rites, come quickly.'
And the sage, together with his disciples, went to bathe, O sinless one, pondering, 'How shall I feed him together with his disciples?'
And the assembly of sages, composed in mind, immersed themselves in the water.
Meanwhile, O King, Draupadi, devoted to her husband, was overcome with deep anxiety for lack of food.
As she pondered and found no cause for the absence of food, she began to contemplate Krishna, the slayer of Kamsa, in her mind.
Krishna, Krishna, mighty-armed, imperishable son of Devaki, Vasudeva, Lord of the universe, destroyer of the suffering of those who seek refuge.
Soul of the universe, progenitor of all, destroyer of the world, unfailing Lord; protector of those who surrender, guardian of cows, guardian of people, supreme among the supreme; initiator of intentions and thoughts, I bow to you.
Most excellent, bestower of boons, endless one, giver of refuge to those without shelter; ancient person, beyond the reach of mind and senses, source of life and thought.
Overseer of all, supreme overseer, I have sought your shelter; protect me, O compassionate Lord, lover of those who seek refuge.
With skin dark as a blue lotus petal, eyes red as the heart of a lotus, clad in yellow garments, adorned with the shining Kaustubha jewel.
You are the beginning and end of all beings, and their ultimate refuge; supreme light beyond all, soul of the universe, facing all directions.
You alone are called the supreme seed, the repository of all wealth; with you as Lord, O god of gods, there is no fear from any calamity.
Just as you freed me before in the assembly from Duhshasana, so too now you ought to rescue me from this distress.
Thus praised by Krishna, the devotee-loving Lord, knowing Draupadi's distress, the god of gods, master of the world,
Leaving Rukmini, who lay beside him, the Lord Kesava, with inconceivable speed, hastened and arrived there.
