यच्च भर्ता न पिबति यच्च भर्ता न सेवते। यच्च नाश्नाति मे भर्ता सर्वं तद्वर्जयाम्यहम्
Whatever my husband does not drink, whatever he does not use, and whatever he does not eat, I abstain from all of that.
यथोपदेशं नियता वर्तमाना वराङ्गने। स्वलंकृता सुप्रयता भर्तुः प्रियहिते रता

तान्सर्वाननुवर्तामि दिवारात्रमतन्द्रिता। विनयाननियमांश्चैव सदा सर्वात्मना श्रिता
All these I observe, day and night, without sloth; I always uphold humility and discipline with all my heart.
मृदून्सतः सत्यशीलान्सत्यधर्मानुपालिनः। स देवः सा गतिर्नार्यास्तस्य का विप्रियं चरेत्
To gentle, virtuous, and truthful men who uphold righteousness, such a man is like a god, the refuge of a woman—what woman would act against his wishes?
पत्याश्रयो हि मे धर्मो मतः स्त्रीणां सनातनः। स देवः सा गतिर्नार्यास्तस्य काविप्रियं चरेत्

अहं पतीन्नातिशये नात्यश्ने नातिभूषये। नापि श्वश्रूं परिवदे सर्वदा परियन्त्रिता
I do not surpass my husbands, nor do I overeat or over-adorn myself; nor do I ever speak ill of my mother-in-law, always remaining restrained.
अवधानेन सुभगे नित्योत्थिततयैव च। भर्तारो वशगा मह्यं गुरुशुश्रूषयैव च
Through attentiveness, O fortunate one, and by always rising early, my husbands are obedient to me, as also through service to elders.
नित्यमार्यामहं कुन्तीं वीरसूं सत्यवादिनीम्। स्वयं परिचराम्यतां पानाच्छादनभोजनैः
I always personally serve Kunti, noble and truthful, mother of heroes, with drink, clothing, and food.
नैतामतिशये जातु वस्त्रभूषणभोजनैः। न वदे चाप्यतिवाचा तां पृथां पृथिवीसमाम्
I never surpass her in garments, ornaments, or food; nor do I ever speak harshly to that Pṛthā, equal to the earth.
अष्टावग्रे ब्राह्मणानां सहस्राणि स्म नित्यदा। भुञ्जते रुक्मपात्रीषु युधिष्ठिरनिवेशने
Eight thousand Brahmanas always dine from golden vessels in Yudhishthira's residence.
अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि स्नातका गृहमेधिनः। त्रिंशद्दासीक एकैको यान्विभर्ति युधिष्ठिरः
Eighty-eight thousand learned householders, each attended by thirty maidservants, are maintained by Yudhishthira.
दशान्यानि सहस्राणि येषामन्नं सुसंस्कृतम्। ह्रियते रुक्मपात्रीभिर्यतीनामूर्ध्वरेतसाम्
Ten thousand more, ascetics of pure vows, are served well-prepared food in golden vessels.
तान्सर्वानग्रहारेण ब्राह्मणान्वेदवादिनः। यथार्हं पूजयामि स्म पानाच्छादनभोजनैः
I used to honor all those Brahmanas, learned in the Vedas, in the village, as was proper, with drink, clothing, and food.
शतं दासीसहस्राणि कौन्तेयस्य महात्मनः। कम्बुकेयूरधारिण्यो निष्ककण्ठ्यः स्वलंकृताः
A hundred thousand maidservants belonged to the great-souled son of Kunti, adorned with armlets and necklaces, each beautifully decorated.
महार्हमाल्याभरणाः सुवर्णाश्चन्दनोक्षिताः। मणीन्हेम च विभ्रत्यो नृत्तगीतविशारदाः
They wore garlands and ornaments of great value, were anointed with sandalwood and gold, adorned with jewels and gold, and skilled in dance and song.
तासां नाम च रूपंच भोजनाच्छादनानि च। सर्वासामेव वेदाहं कर्म चैव कृताकृतम्
I know the names and forms, the food and clothing, and all the deeds, done and undone, of all of them.
शतं दासीसहस्राणि कुन्तीपुत्रस्य धीमतः। पात्रीपस्ता दिवारात्रमतिथीन्भोजयन्त्युत
A hundred thousand maidservants of the wise son of Kunti, holding vessels, serve food to guests day and night.
शतमश्वसहस्राणि दशनागायुतानि च। युधिष्ठिरस्यानुयात्रमिन्द्रप्रस्थनिवासिनः
A hundred thousand horses and ten thousand elephants accompanied Yudhishthira, dwelling at Indraprastha.
एतदासीत्तदा राज्ञो यन्महीं पर्यपालयत्। येषां सङ्ख्याविधिं चैव प्रदिशामि शृणोमि च
Such was the king’s prosperity when he ruled the earth; I know and can recount the number and arrangement of all these.
अन्तःपूराणां सर्वेषां भृत्यानां चैव सर्वशः। आगोपालाविपालेभ्यः सर्वं वेद कृताकृतम्
I know everything, done and undone, concerning all the inner apartments and all the servants, from cowherds to shepherds.

मयि सर्वं समासज्यकुटुम्बं भरतर्षभाः। उपासनरताः सर्वे घटयन्ति वरानने
All the household matters, O best of the Bharatas, are entrusted to me; all are devoted to service and strive according to my direction, O beautiful one.
तमहं भारमासक्तमनाधृष्यं दुरात्मभिः। सुखं सर्वंपरित्यज्यरात्र्यहानि घटामि वै
I bear that burden with a mind unwavering, unassailable by the wicked; I arrange everything, day and night, easily relinquishing comfort.
अधृष्यं वरुणस्येव निधिपूर्णमिवोदधिम्। एकाहं वेद्मि कोशं वै पतीनां धर्मचारिणाम्
I alone know the treasury of my righteous husbands, unassailable like Varuna’s wealth, or the ocean filled with treasures.
अनिशायां निशायां च विहाय क्षुत्पिपासयोः। आराधयन्त्याः कौरव्यांस्तुल्या रात्रिरहश्च मे
Night and day, forsaking hunger and thirst, I serve the Kauravas; for me, night and day are the same.
प्रथमं प्रतिबुध्यामि चरमं संविशामि च। नित्यकालमहं सत्ये एतत्संवननं मम
I rise first and lie down last; always, at all times, I am devoted to truth—this is my conduct.
एतज्जानाम्यहं कर्तुं भर्तृसंवननं महत्। असत्स्त्रीणां समाचारं नाहं कुर्यां न कामये
I know how to perform this great duty of serving my husbands; I neither do nor desire the conduct of wicked women.
तच्छ्रुत्वा धर्मसहितं व्याहृतं कृष्णया तदा। उवाच सत्या सत्कृत्य पाञ्चालीं धर्मचारिणीं
Hearing these words, filled with righteousness, spoken by Krishna, Satyabhama, devoted to virtue, honored Draupadi and spoke.
