न क्षंस्यति पिता पुत्रं पुत्रश्च पितरं तथा। भार्याश्च पतिशुश्रूषां न करिष्यन्ति संक्षये
A father will not forgive his son, nor will a son forgive his father; wives will no longer serve their husbands at the end of the age.
ये यवान्ना जनपदा गोधूमान्नास्तथैव च। तान्देशान्संश्रयिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते
Those lands where barley and wheat are the staple foods—people will seek refuge there when the age draws to a close.
स्वैराहाराश्च पुरुषा योषितश्च विशांपते। अन्योन्यं न सहिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते
Men and women will eat as they please, O lord of the people; when the age ends, they will no longer tolerate each other.
म्लेच्छभूतं जगत्सर्वं भविष्यति युधिष्ठिर। श्राद्धे न देवान्न पितॄँस्तर्पयिष्यन्ति मानवाः
The whole world will become like foreigners, O Yudhishthira; at ancestral rites, people will no longer satisfy the gods or the ancestors.
न कश्चित्कस्यचिच्छ्रोता न कश्चित्कस्यचिद्गुरुः। तमोग्रस्तस्तदा लोको भविष्यति जनाधिप
No one will listen to anyone, nor will anyone be a teacher to another; the world will be engulfed in darkness, O lord of men.
परमायुश्च भविता तदा वर्षाणि षोडश। ततः प्राणान्विमोक्ष्यन्ति युगान्ते समुपस्थिते
Then, the maximum lifespan will be sixteen years; after that, at the end of the age, people will give up their lives.
पञ्चमे वाऽथ षष्ठे वा वर्षे कन्या प्रसूयते। सप्तवर्षाष्टवर्षाश्च प्रजास्यन्ति नरास्तदा
In the fifth or sixth year, a girl will give birth; at seven or eight years, men will beget children in those times.
पत्यौ स्त्री तु तदा राजन्पुरुषो वा स्त्रियं प्रति। युगान्ते राजशार्दूल न तोषमुपयास्यति
At the end of the age, O tiger among kings, neither wife toward husband nor man toward woman will find satisfaction.
अल्पद्रव्या वृथालिङ्गा हिंसा च प्रभविष्यति। न कश्चित्कस्यचिद्दाता भविष्यति युगक्षये
People will have little wealth, false appearances, and violence will prevail; at the end of the age, no one will give to anyone.
अट्टशूला जनपदाः शिवशूलाश्चतुष्पथाः। केशशूलाः स्त्रियश्चापि भविष्यनति युगक्षये
Towns will be filled with thieves, crossroads with murderers, and women will become like snatchers at the end of the age.
म्लेच्छाचाराः सर्वमभक्षा दारुणा सर्वकर्मसु। भाविन पश्चिमे काले मनुष्या नात्र संशयः
People will follow foreign customs, eat forbidden things, and be harsh in all their actions in the final age—of this there is no doubt.
क्रयविक्रयकाले च सर्वः सर्वस्य वञ्चनम्। युगान्ते भरतश्रेष्ठ वित्तलोभात्करिष्यति
At the time of buying and selling, everyone will cheat everyone, O best of the Bharatas, driven by greed for wealth at the end of the age.
ज्ञानानि चाप्यविज्ञाय करिष्यन्ति क्रियास्तथा। आत्मच्छन्देन वर्तन्ते युगान्ते समुपस्थिते
Without true understanding, people will perform rituals and acts; when the age ends, they will act only according to their own desires.
स्वभावात्क्रूरकर्माणश्चान्योन्यमभिशंसिनः। भवितारो जनाः सर्वे संप्राप्ते तु युगक्षये
By nature, all people will be cruel in their deeds and speak ill of each other when the age comes to its end.
आरामांश्चैव वृक्षांश्च नाशयिष्यन्ति निर्व्यथाः। भविता संशयो लोके जीवितस्य हि देहिनाम्
Without hesitation, they will destroy gardens and trees; there will be doubt in the world about the value of life itself.
तथा लोभाभिभूताश्च भविष्यन्ति नरा नृप। ब्राह्मणांश्च हनिष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणस्वोपभोगिनः
So too, O king, men will be overcome by greed; they will kill Brahmins and seize the possessions meant for Brahmins.
हाहाकृता द्विजाश्चैव भयार्ता वृषलार्दिताः। त्रातारमलाभन्तो वै भ्रमिष्यनति महीमिमाम्
The twice-born, crying out in distress and tormented by outcastes, will wander the earth in search of a protector, but find none.
जीवितान्तकराः क्रूरा रौद्राः प्राणिविहिंसकाः। यदा भविष्यन्ति नरास्तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम्
When people become deadly, cruel, fierce, and killers of living beings, then the age will come to its close.
आश्रयिष्यन्ति च नदी पर्वतान्विषमाणि च। प्रधावमाना वित्रस्ता द्विजाः कुरुकुलोद्वह
Terrified and fleeing, O best of the Kurus, the twice-born will take refuge in rivers, mountains, and rugged places.
दस्युभिः पीडिता राजन्काका इव द्विजोत्तमाः। कुराजभिश्च सततं करभारप्रपीडिताः
Oppressed by bandits, O king, the foremost of the twice-born will be like crows, and constantly burdened by the Kurus' taxes.
धैर्यं त्यक्त्वा महीपाल दारुणे युगसंक्षये। विकर्माणि करिष्यन्ति शूद्राणां परिचारकाः
Abandoning courage at the dreadful end of the age, O protector of the earth, the attendants of the Shudras will commit unrighteous deeds.
शूद्रा धर्मं प्रवक्ष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणाः पर्युपासकाः। श्रोतारश्च भविष्यन्ति प्रामाण्येन व्यवस्थिताः
Shudras will expound dharma, while Brahmins will serve them; and listeners will be established as authorities.
विपरीतश्च लोकोऽयं भविष्यत्यधरोत्तरः। एडूकान्पूजयिष्यन्ति वर्जयिष्यन्ति देवताः। शूद्राश्च प्रभविष्यन्ति न द्विजा युगसंक्षये
This world will become inverted and degenerate; people will worship idols and neglect the gods; Shudras will become powerful, not the twice-born, at the end of the age.
आश्रमेषुमहर्षीणां ब्राह्मणावसथेषु च। देवस्थानेषु चैत्येषु नागानामालयेषु च
In the hermitages of great sages, in Brahmin dwellings, in temples, shrines, and serpent abodes—
एडूकचिह्ना पृथिवी न देवगृहभूषिता। भविष्यति युगे क्षीणे तद्युगान्तस्य लक्षणम्
The earth will be marked with idol symbols, not adorned by houses of the gods; this will be a sign of the age's decline.
दा रौद्रा धर्महीना मांसादाः पानपास्तथा। भविष्यन्ति नरा नित्यं तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम्
Men will be fierce, unrighteous, eaters of flesh, and addicted to drink; then the age will contract.
पुष्पं पुष्पे यदा राजन्फले वा फलमाश्रितम्। प्रजास्यति महाराज तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम्
When, O king, a flower grows upon a flower, or a fruit upon a fruit, then, O great king, the age will contract.
अकालवर्षी पर्जन्यो भविष्यति गते युगे। अक्रमेण मनुष्याणां भविष्यनति तदा क्रियाः
When the age has passed, the clouds will rain out of season; then, human actions will proceed without order.
विरोधमथ यास्यनति वृषला ब्राह्मणैः सह। मही म्लेच्छजनाकीर्णा भविष्यति ततोऽचिरात्
Then, the outcastes will come into conflict with the Brahmins; the earth will soon be filled with foreign peoples.
करभारभयाद्विप्रा भजिष्यन्ति दिशो दश। `अन्यायवर्तिनश्चापि भविष्यनति नराधिपाः
Out of fear of taxes and burdens, the Brahmins will flee in all ten directions; and kings will act unjustly.
