Then, as I stood there, trusting and covered with wounds from many arrows, the king of the gods, showing me favor, spoke these timely words.
All the divine weapons, O descendant of Bharata, are now with you; no human on earth is able to overcome you.
Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Karna, Shakuni with the kings—none of them, confronting you in battle, can match even a sixteenth part of your power.
And Maghavan, the mighty Indra, gave me this body-armor—an impenetrable, divine breastplate, and a golden garland.
The god also gave me the Devadatta conch, which roars mightily, and this divine crown was placed upon my head by Indra himself.
Then Shakra gave me these divine garments and ornaments, splendid and magnificent.
Thus honored there, O king, I dwelled happily in Indra’s blessed palace, together with the children of the Gandharvas.
Then Shakra, pleased, spoke to me in the company of the immortals: 'Arjuna, it is time for you to go; your brothers are thinking of you.'
Thus, O descendant of Bharata, I spent five years in Indra’s palace, always remembering the calamity caused by the dice.
Then I saw you, surrounded by your brothers, upon reaching the summit of this Gandhamadana mountain.
By good fortune, O Dhananjaya, you have obtained these weapons; by good fortune, the king of the gods, lord of the deities, has been propitiated by you.
By good fortune, O sinless one, the blessed Sthāṇu (Shiva) himself, together with the goddess, has been seen directly by you and pleased by your combat.
By good fortune, O bull among the Bharatas, you have met with the guardians of the worlds; by good fortune, O Partha, we rejoice, and by good fortune you have returned.
Today, O son of Kunti, I behold this entire earth, adorned with cities, conquered and restored to me by you; and I believe even the sons of Dhritarashtra have been brought under control.
O Bhārata, I wish to see those divine weapons by which those mighty Nivātakavacas were slain.
In the morning, you shall behold all those celestial weapons, by which I struck down the dreadful Nivātakavacas.
Having thus spoken of that coming, Dhanañjaya spent that night together with all his brothers.
When that night had passed, King Yudhiṣṭhira, rising, performed his necessary duties together with his brothers.
Then he urged Arjuna, the delight of his mother: 'Show us, O son of Kuntī, the weapons by which you conquered the Dānavas.'
Then Dhanañjaya, O King, the son of Pāṇḍu, displayed those divine weapons given by the gods, O Bhārata.
The great and radiant Pāṇḍava, observing utmost purity as prescribed, bowed to the three-eyed one and to Vāsava.
Ascending the royal chariot adorned with mountain-like wheels, auspicious banners, and triple pennants, Dhanañjaya shone brilliantly.
Clad in that radiant divine armor, taking up the bow Gāṇḍīva and the conch Devadatta, he looked resplendent.
The mighty-armed son of Kuntī, shining forth, began to display those divine weapons one after another.
As those celestial weapons were about to be employed, the earth, filled with trees, trembled as if pressed by feet.
The rivers were agitated, as was the great ocean; mountains split apart, and the wind did not blow.
The sun did not shine, fire did not blaze, and the Vedas did not appear to the twice-born in any way.
And those creatures dwelling underground, O Janamejaya, being tormented, rose up and surrounded Pāṇḍava.
All of them, trembling, with joined palms and distorted faces, scorched by those weapons, then begged Dhanañjaya.
Then the Brahmarṣis, Siddhas, and great Ṛṣis, as well as all mobile beings, gathered there.
