ते जवेन महावेगाः प्लवमाना विहायसा। गन्धमादनमाजग्मुः प्रकर्षन्त इवाम्बरम्
With tremendous speed and force, soaring through the sky, they arrived at Gandhamadana, seeming to drag the heavens along.
तत्केसरिमहाजालं धनाधिपतिपालितम्। `रम्यं चैव गिरेः शृङ्गमासेदुर्यत्रपाण्डवाः
They reached the splendid peak of the mountain, guarded by the Lord of Wealth and adorned with lion banners, where the Pandavas were staying.
कुबेरं च महात्मानं यक्षरक्षोगणावृतम्। ददृशुर्हृष्टरोमाणः पाण्डवाः प्रियदर्शनम्
The Pandavas, their hair standing on end in delight, beheld the great-souled Kubera, pleasing to the eye, surrounded by hosts of Yakshas and Rakshasas.
कुबेरस्तु महासत्वान्पाण्डोः पुत्रान्महारथान्। आत्तकार्मुकनिस्त्रिंशान्दृष्ट्वा प्रीतोऽभवत्तदा
Kubera, seeing the mighty sons of Pandu—great chariot-warriors, armed with bows and swords—was gladdened at that moment.
सर्वे चेमे नरव्याघ्राः पुरन्दरसमौजसः।' देवकार्यं करिष्यन्ति हृदयेन तुतोष ह
And all these tiger-like men, possessing the vigor of Indra, will accomplish the work of the gods—thus his heart was satisfied.
ते पक्षिण इवापेतुर्गिरिशृङ्गं महाजवाः। तस्थुस्तेषां सकाशे वै धनेश्वरपुरःसराः
Then those swift ones departed like birds from the mountain peak, and the followers of the Lord of Wealth stood before them.
ततस्तं हृष्टमनसं पाण्डवान्प्रति भारत। समीक्ष्ययक्षगन्धर्वा निर्विकारमवस्थिताः
Then, O Bharata, the Yakshas and Gandharvas, observing the Pandavas, who were gladdened in spirit, stood unmoved.
पाण्डवाश्च महात्मानः प्रणम्य धनदं प्रभुम्। नकुलः सहदेवश् धर्मपुत्रश्च धर्मवित्
And the great-souled Pandavas, bowing to the Lord of Wealth, Nakula, Sahadeva, and the righteous Yudhishthira, knower of dharma—
अपराद्धमिवात्मानं मन्यमाना महारथाः। तस्थुः प्राञ्जलयः सर्वे परिवार्य धनेश्वरम्
Thinking themselves at fault, those great chariot-warriors stood with joined palms, all surrounding the Lord of Wealth.
शय्यासनयुतं श्रीमत्पुष्पकं विश्वकर्मणा। विहितं चित्रपर्यन्तमातिष्ठत धनाधिपः
The Lord of Wealth occupied the splendid Pushpaka, adorned with beds and seats, crafted by Vishvakarma, with wondrous borders.
तमासीनं महाकायाः शङ्कुकर्णा महाजवाः। उपोपविविशुर्यक्षा राक्षसाश् सहस्रशः
Then the Yakshas and Rakshasas, massive in form, with conch-shaped ears and great speed, sat nearby in thousands.
शतशश्चापि गन्धर्वास्तथैवाप्सरसां गणाः। परिवार्योपतिष्ठन्ति यथा देवाः शतक्रतुम्
Hundreds of Gandharvas and hosts of Apsaras also gathered around, attending him as the gods do Shatakratu.
काञ्जनीं शिरसा बिभ्रद्भीमसेनः स्रजं शुभाम्। बाणखङ्गधनुष्पाणिरुदैक्षत धनाधिपम्
Bhimasena, wearing a beautiful golden garland on his head, holding arrows, sword, and bow in hand, gazed at the Lord of Wealth.
न भीर्भीमस्य न ग्लानिर्विक्षतस्यापि राक्षसैः। आसीत्तस्यामवस्तायां कुबेरमपि पश्यतः
Neither fear nor fatigue touched Bhima, even when gazed upon by the Rakshasas in that situation, as he looked upon Kubera.
आददानं शितान्बाणान्योद्धुकाममवस्थितम्। दृष्ट्वा भीमं धर्मसुतमब्रवीन्नरवाहनः
Seeing Bhima, poised to fight, taking up sharp arrows, the son of Dharma, Naravahana, spoke to him.
विदुस्त्वां सर्वभूतानि पार्थ भूतहिते रतम्। निर्भयश्चापिशैलाग्रे वस त्वं सह बन्धुभिः
All beings know you, Partha, as one devoted to the welfare of creatures; therefore, dwell without fear on this mountain peak with your kin.
न च मन्युस्त्वया कार्यो भीमसेनस्य पाण्डव। कालेनैते हताः पूर्वं निमित्तमनुजस्तव
Nor should you, Pandava, harbor anger toward Bhimasena; these were slain before by Time, your younger brother was but the cause.
व्रीडा चात्रन कर्तव्या साहसं यदिदं कृतम्। दृष्टश्चापि सुरैः पूर्वंविनाशो यक्षरक्षसाम्
Nor should there be shame for this bold deed; the destruction of the Yakshas and Rakshasas was seen before by the gods.
न भीमसेने कोपो मे प्रीतोस्मि भरतर्षभ। कर्मणा भीमसेनस्य मम तुष्टिरभूत्पुरा
I bear no anger toward Bhimasena; I am pleased, O bull of Bharatas. Formerly, I was satisfied by Bhimasena’s deed.
स एवमुक्त्वा राजानं भीमसेनमभाषत। नैतन्मनसि मे तात वर्तते कुरुसत्तम
Having spoken thus, he addressed King Bhimasena: 'This does not dwell in my mind, dear one, O best of Kurus.'
यदिदं साहसं भीम कृष्णार्थे कृतवानसि। मामनादृत्य देवांश्च विनाशं यक्षरक्षसाम्
O Bhima, this daring act you have performed for Krishna's sake, disregarding me, the gods, and the destruction of the yakshas and rakshasas—
स्वबाहुबलमाश्रित्य तेनाहं प्रीतिमांस्त्वयि। शापादद्य विनिर्मुक्तो घोरादस्माद्वृकोदर
Relying on the strength of your own arms, because of this I am pleased with you; today, O Vrikodara, I am freed from this terrible curse.
अहं पूर्वमगस्त्येन क्रुद्धेन परमर्षिणा। शप्तोऽपराधे कस्मिंश्चित्तस्यैषा निष्कृतिर्ध्रुवम्
Previously, I was cursed by the great sage Agastya, who was angered by some offense; this is certainly the expiation for that.
दृष्टो हि मम संक्लेशः पुरा पाण्डवनन्दन। न तवात्रापराधोस्ति कथंचिदपि पाण्डव
O joy of the Pandavas, my suffering was seen before; O Pandava, you have no fault here in any way.
कथं शप्तोसि भगवन्नगस्त्येन महात्मना। श्रोतुमिच्छाम्यहं देव यथैतच्छापकारणम्
How were you cursed, O blessed one, by the great-souled Agastya? I wish to hear, O lord, the reason for that curse.
इदं चाश्चर्यभूतं मे यत्क्रोधात्तस् धीमतः। तदैव त्वं न निर्दग्धः सबलः सपदानुगः
This is astonishing to me, that from the wrath of that wise one, you were not instantly burned up, along with your forces and followers.
देवतानामभून्मन्त्रः कुशावत्यां नरेश्वर

वृतस्तत्राहमगमं महापद्मशतैस्त्रिभिः। यक्षाणआं घोररूपाणां विविधायुधधारिणाम्

तमूर्द्वबाहुं दृष्ट्वैव सूर्यस्याभिमुखे स्थितम्। तेजोराशिं दीप्यमानं हुताशनमिवैधितम्
