Hearing the cave of the mountain resounding with many kinds of sounds, Ajatasatru, the son of Kunti, and both sons of Madri,
Dhaumya, Krishna, the Brahmins, and all their friends, not seeing Bhimasena, became troubled in mind.
The great warriors, having entrusted Draupadi to Satyaseṇa, together, armed and courageous, ascended the mountain.
Then, reaching the mountain’s summit, the great archers looked around and saw Bhimasena, the subduer of foes.
They saw the mighty-bodied demons, lifeless, and those of great strength and spirit, felled by Bhimasena.
They observed the mighty-bodied demons, lifeless, and those of great strength and spirit, struck down by Bhimasena.
Then, passing beyond, they embraced Vrikodara, and there the Parthas sat, having attained the highest relief.
With those four great archers, the mountain peak shone, like heaven with its illustrious guardians.
Seeing Kubera’s abode and the demons slain, the brother, seated with his brother, Yudhishthira spoke.
This sinful act, Bhima, was done rashly or in delusion; it does not befit you, hero, nor is wanton killing proper for a sage.
Those who know dharma say that acts hateful to kings should not be done; this act, Bhimasena, is hated by the gods and was done by you.
He who, disregarding wealth and righteousness, turns his mind to sin, O Partha, surely receives the fruit of evil deeds.
May you be blessed; this rash act is displeasing even to the gods. Do not do such a thing again, if you wish to please me.
Having spoken thus, the righteous brother addressed his steadfast brother, Bhimasena, mighty-armed and of irresistible valor.
Yudhishthira, son of Kunti, who understood the true nature of wealth, paused, his mind reflecting upon that very matter.
Then those Rakshasas who survived Bhimasena's attack gathered together and set out toward Kubera's abode.
With great speed and force, they reached Vaishravana's residence and, terrified by Bhimasena, raised cries of distress.
Exhausted, their weapons laid aside, their garments stained with blood, their hair disheveled, they addressed the royal lord of the Yakshas.
All the Rakshasas, wielders of maces, clubs, swords, spears, and javelins—your divine city’s attendants—have been slain.
O Lord of Wealth, the mountain was crushed with overwhelming force by a single human; enraged, the groups were destroyed in battle.
The foremost among the Rakshasa chiefs and Yakshas, O king, lie slain, their life departed, their bodies lifeless.
The mountain is shattered, we are defeated, our jewel-adorned companion is slain; this deed was done by a human—decide what is to be done next.
Hearing this, the lord of all Yaksha hosts became enraged, his eyes reddened with anger, and he spoke, asking how this had happened.
Upon hearing of Bhima’s second offense, the Lord of Wealth grew furious; the Yaksha chief ordered, 'Let preparations be made.'
Then, resembling a mass of clouds or a lofty mountain peak, they harnessed a chariot adorned with golden garlands.
To that chariot were yoked flawless horses endowed with every virtue, radiant eyes, strength, energy, and adorned with various gems, shining as if they would swiftly cross all obstacles.
Then, seeing the Lord of Wealth enraged, the great Yakshas rejoiced among themselves, exchanging victorious gestures.
The illustrious king of kings, mounting that great chariot, departed, praised by the hosts of gods and Gandharvas, his brilliance manifest.
As the great-souled Lord of Wealth set out, all the Yakshas, fierce in appearance, followed him.
With red eyes, shining like gold, massive bodies and immense strength, armed and girded with swords, the Yakshas, bearing countless weapons, advanced.
