पादपैः पुष्पविकचैः फलभारावनामितैः। शोभितः पर्वतो रम्यः पुंस्कोकिलकुलाकुलैः। स्निग्धपत्रैरविरलैः शीतच्छायैर्मनोरमैः
That beautiful mountain was adorned with blossoming trees, bent under the weight of fruit, filled with flocks of peacocks and cuckoos, with glossy, dense leaves and delightful, cool shade.
सरांसि च विचित्राणि प्रसन्नसलिलानि च। कमलैः सोत्पलैस्तत्रभ्राजमानानि सर्वशः। पश्यन्तश्चारुरूपाणइ रेमिरे तत्र पाण्डवाः
There, the Pandavas took pleasure as they gazed upon the lovely lakes, clear waters shining everywhere with lotuses and water-lilies of beautiful form.
पुण्यगन्धः सुखस्पर्शो ववौ तत्र समीरणः। ह्लादयन्पाण्डवान्सर्बान्सकृष्णान्सद्विजर्षभान्
There, a fragrant, gentle breeze blew, pleasing to the touch, delighting all the Pandavas, Krishna, and the noble Brahmanas.
ततः पूर्वोत्तरे वायुः प्लवमानो यदृच्छया। सहस्रपत्रमर्काभं दिव्यं पद्ममुपाहरत्
Then, from the northeast, the wind, moving at will, brought a divine lotus with a thousand petals, shining like the sun.
तदवैक्षत पाञ्चाली दिव्यगन्धं मनोरमम्। अनिलेनाहृतंभूमौ पतितं जलजं शुचि
Panchali saw that pure, beautiful, divinely fragrant lotus, brought by the wind and fallen to the ground.
तच्छुभा शुभमासाद्य सौगन्धिकमनुत्तमम्। अतीव मुदिता राजन्भीमसेनमथाब्रवीत्
Having obtained that excellent, auspicious, and supremely fragrant lotus, the radiant Draupadi, greatly delighted, spoke to Bhimasena.
पश्य दिव्यं सुरुचिरं भीम पुष्पमनुत्तमम्। गन्धसंस्थानसंपन्नं मनसो मम नन्दनम्
Behold this divine, most beautiful flower, Bhima, endowed with fragrance and form, a delight to my heart.
इदं च धर्मराजाय प्रदास्यामि परंतप। `गृह्यापराणि पुष्पाणि बहूनि पुरुषर्षभ'। हरेरिदं मे कामाय काम्यके पुनराश्रमे
I will give this to King Yudhishthira, O scorcher of foes. O bull among men, bring me many more such flowers; I wish to take them to our hermitage in Kamyaka.
यदि तेऽहं प्रिया पार्थ बहूनीमान्युपाहर। तान्यहं नेतुमिच्छामि काम्यकं पुनराश्रमम्
If I am dear to you, Partha, bring me many of these; I wish to carry them back to the hermitage at Kamyaka.
एवमुक्त्वा तु पाञ्चली भीमसेनमनिन्दिता। जगाम पुष्पमादाय धर्मराजाय तत्तदा
Thus addressed by the blameless Panchali, Bhimasena took the flower and brought it to King Yudhishthira.
अभिप्रायं तु विज्ञाय महिष्याः पुरुषर्षभः। प्रियायाः प्रियकामः स प्रायाद्भीमो महाबलः
Understanding his queen's desire, Bhima, the mighty one, eager to please his beloved, set out.
वातं तमेवाभिमुखो यतस्तत्पुष्पमागतम्। आजिहीर्षुर्जगामाशु सपुष्पाण्यपराण्यपि
Facing the direction from which the flower had come, Bhima quickly went, wishing to gather more flowers.
रुक्मपृष्ठं धनुर्गृह्य शरांश्चाशीविषोपमान्। मृगराडिव संक्रुद्धः प्रभिन्न इव कुञ्जरः। [ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि महाबाणधनुर्धरम्
Seizing his gold-backed bow and arrows like venomous serpents, Bhima, like an enraged lion or a maddened elephant, was seen by all creatures, wielding his mighty bow.
न ग्लानिर्न च वैक्लब्यं न भयं न च संभ्रमः। कदाचिज्जुषते पार्थमात्मजं मातरिश्वनः ।।]
Never did fatigue, weakness, fear, or confusion touch the son of Pritha, born of the wind-god.
द्रौपद्याः प्रियमन्विच्छन्स बाहुबलमाश्रितः। व्यपेतभयसमोहः शैलमभ्यपतद्बली
Seeking what would please Draupadi, relying on the strength of his arms, fearless and free from confusion, the mighty one ascended the mountain.
स तं द्रुमलतागुल्मच्छन्नं नीलशिलातलम्। गिरिं चचारारिहरः किन्नराचरितं शुभम्
He, destroyer of foes, wandered upon the mountain, its blue rocky surface hidden by trees, creepers, and thickets, a place graced by the Kinnaras, auspicious and beautiful.
नानावर्णधरैश्चित्रं धातुद्रुममृगाण्डजैः। सर्वभूषणसंपूर्णं भूमेर्भुजमिवोच्छ्रितम्
Adorned with minerals, trees, birds, and eggs of many colors, filled with every ornament, it rose from the earth like a mighty arm.
सर्वर्तुरमणीयेषु गन्धमादनसानुषु। सक्तचक्षुरभिप्रायान्हृदयेनानुचिन्तयन्
On the delightful slopes of Gandhamadana, in every season, he fixed his gaze and thoughts, contemplating with his heart.
पुंस्कोकिलनिनादेषु षट्पदाचरितेषु च। बद्धश्रोत्रमनश्चक्षुर्जगामामितविक्रमः
Amid the calls of male cuckoos and the buzzing of bees, with mind, ears, and eyes attentive, the one of immeasurable prowess proceeded.
आजिघ्रन्स महातेजाः सर्वर्तुकुसुमोद्भवम्। गन्धमुद्धतमुद्दामो वने मत्त इव द्विपः
The mighty one inhaled the intense fragrance of flowers blossoming in every season, wild and abundant in the forest, like a rutting elephant.
वीज्यमानः सुपुण्येन नानाकुसुमगन्धिना। पितुः संस्पर्शशीतेन गन्धमादनवायुना
Fanned by the auspicious wind of Gandhamadana, fragrant with many flowers, cooled by the touch of his father's breeze.
ह्रियमाणश्रमः पित्रा संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहः
His fatigue was carried away by his father, and his body thrilled with delight.
स यक्षगन्धर्वसुरब्रह्मर्षिगणसेवितम्। विलोकयामास तदा पुष्पहेतोररिंदमः
Then, for the sake of flowers, the subduer of enemies beheld that place, attended by hosts of Yakshas, Gandharvas, Suras, and Brahmarshis.
विषमच्छदैरचितैरनुलिप्त इवाङ्गुलैः। विमलैर्धातुविच्छेदैः काञ्चनाञ्जनराजतैः
With uneven coverings, as if smeared by fingers, pure mineral streaks of gold, antimony, and silver adorned it.
सपक्षमिव नृत्यन्तं पार्श्वलग्नैः पयोधरैः। मुक्ताहारैरिव चितं च्युतैः प्रस्रवणोदकैः
It seemed to dance with wings, its sides adorned by clouds, decorated with strings of pearls, the waters from springs cascading down.
अभिरामदरीकुञ्जनिर्झरोदककन्दरम्। अप्सरोनूपुररवैः प्रनृत्तवरबर्हिणम्
Charming caves, groves, waterfalls, and hollows, with the anklet sounds of Apsaras and the dance of splendid peacocks.
दिग्वारणविषाणाग्रैर्घृष्टोपलशिलातलम्। स्रस्तांशुकमिवाश्रोभ्यैर्निम्नगानिःसृतैर्जलैः
The rocky surface was rubbed by the tips of the tusks of the elephants of the quarters, as if draped with fallen cloth, with streams flowing downward.
सशष्पकबलैः स्वस्थैरदूरपरिवर्तिभिः। भयानभिक्षज्ञैर्हरिणैः कौतूहलनिरीक्षितः
He was observed by deer, grazing and resting nearby, unafraid and unaccustomed to begging, watching with curiosity.
चालयानः स्ववेगेन लताजालान्यनेकशः। आक्रीडमानः कौन्तेयः श्रीमान्वायुसुतो ययौ
Moving swiftly, shaking many networks of creepers, the illustrious son of the wind, Kaunteya, played as he went.
प्रियामनोरथं कर्तुमुद्यतश्चारुलोचनः। प्रांशुः कनकवर्णाभः सिंहसंहननो युवा
Intent on fulfilling his beloved's desire, with beautiful eyes, tall and golden-hued, youthful and lion-bodied.
