Hearing his brother's words, Bhimasena, mighty in strength and valor, began to think of Ghatotkaca.
Then Ghatotkaca, righteous in nature, appeared as soon as his father remembered him, standing with joined palms, having greeted the Pandavas and the Brahmanas, and was honored by them.
That truthful and valiant one spoke to Bhimasena, his father:
I have been summoned by you and have come swiftly, eager to serve; command me, O mighty-armed one, I will accomplish everything without doubt.
Hearing this, Bhimasena embraced the rakshasa, and Vrikodara, his mind relieved of worry, spoke:
O son of Hidimba, your unconquered mother is weary; you, who can move at will and are strong, carry her, O bird-like one.
Place her on your shoulder, with care, and fly in our midst, going low and gently so that you do not distress her.
I alone am able to carry Dharmaraja, Dhaumya, Krishna, and the twins; how much more so today, when I have helpers.
Hundreds of other brave, bird-formed beings who can change shape will also carry all of you along with the Brahmanas, O faultless one; I will go slowly, carrying Drupada's daughter.
Having spoken thus, Ghatotkaca, the hero, carried Krishna, moving among the Pandavas, and others carried the rest of the Pandavas as well.
Lomasha, radiant beyond compare, proceeded along the perfected path, by his own power shining like a second sun.
And the Rakshasas, mighty as Bhima, carried off all those Brahmanas as ordered by the Rakshasa commander.
Thus, beholding forests and groves delightful to the gods, they journeyed on toward the vast Badari.
Those heroes, borne swiftly by the Rakshasas of great speed, traversed the long road as if it were short.
They saw lands crowded with Mlecchas, filled with various treasures, and the foothills of mountains heaped with many kinds of minerals.
They saw schools of learning thronged with monkeys and Kinnaras, as well as Kimpurushas and Gandharvas all around.
They saw places teeming with peacocks, partridges, deer, antelopes, wild boars, wild oxen, and buffaloes.
They saw many regions filled with networks of rivers, abounding in various birds, adorned with many kinds of animals and Charanas, and graced by intoxicated, delightful birds.
Descending through many lands, and even the northern Kurus, they beheld the wondrous and supreme mountain, Kailasa.
Near that place, they saw the hermitage of Nara and Narayana, surrounded by divine trees always bearing flowers and fruits.
They saw that Badari tree, round-trunked and lovely, lush with unbroken shade, endowed with supreme splendor.
Adorned with smooth, glossy, abundant leaves, with wide-spreading branches, vast and radiant.
Heaped with divine, sweet fruits, always dripping with honey, frequented by hosts of great sages, and ever accompanied by joyful flocks of various birds.
In a land free from biting insects and mosquitoes, rich in roots, fruits, and water, covered with blue-green grass, and frequented by gods and Gandharvas.
In a region with clear, excellent ground, naturally known as auspicious, born where the touch of the snow is gentle, and thorns are absent.
Reaching that place, the great souls, along with those foremost Brahmanas, all gently descended from the shoulders of the Rakshasas.
Then, O King, the Pandavas, together with the eminent twice-born, beheld that sacred hermitage of Nara and Narayana.
That holy place, untouched by darkness, unscorched by the sun's rays, free from hunger, thirst, heat, and cold, and a destroyer of sorrow.
O great king, that place was crowded with hosts of great sages, endowed with the splendor of Brahma and prosperity, and was inaccessible to men who had abandoned righteousness.
It was a divine place, honored with offerings and sacrifices to Bali, beautifully cleansed and anointed, and adorned on all sides with offerings of celestial flowers.
