With sweet glances, gentle speech, beauty, and grace, as she walked, she seemed to call to the moon with her curved, moon-like face.
Her divine, radiant breasts, lovely with necklaces and anointed with celestial sandalwood, swayed as she walked.
Weakened at every step by the weight of her breasts, her waist, adorned with three lines and a jeweled girdle, was exceedingly graceful.
Her hips, broad as a chariot's axle, high and full, fair as the abode of love, were adorned with a jeweled belt.
Even for the divine sages, her flawless hips, clad in fine cloth, shone as the cause of disturbance in their minds.
Her feet, with hidden ankles, coppery, long soles, and toes, ending like a turtle's back, shone, adorned with tinkling anklets.
Pleased with a little wine and inflamed by love, with various playful gestures, she became even more delightful to behold.
As she went, watched by Siddhas, Charanas, Gandharvas, and Sadhyas, the playful lady was the most wondrous and beautiful form even in heaven.
Clad in a very fine upper garment, silver and cloud-colored, she moved like a slender cloud in the sky, with the moon's crescent.
Then, the lovely-smiling one, who is nearly impossible to attain even in thought or deed, arrived at the mansion of Phalguna, son of Pandu.
There, having reached the door and been announced by the doorkeepers, Urvashi of beautiful eyes was presented to Arjuna, best of men.
He approached that spotless and most delightful dwelling; yet, O King, with a mind full of doubt, he returned there in the night.
Upon seeing Urvashi, Arjuna, his eyes cast down in modesty, offered his salutations and performed the proper reverence due to a teacher.
With bowed head, he said: 'I pay homage to you, foremost among the celestial nymphs; tell me truly and fully the purpose of your coming. What do you command, O Lady? I am your servant, present before you.'
Recognizing Phalguna’s reluctance by his gestures, Urvashi, skilled in reading signs, conveyed to Phalguna all the words spoken by the Gandharva.
As Citrarshena told me, O best of men, so I shall recount to you, and also explain the reason for my coming here.
While the delightful assembly of Indra was in session, and the festival of heaven was at its height because of your pleasing arrival,
With the Rudras present, and all the Adityas as well, and at the gathering of the Ashvins and the Vasus, O best of men,
Among the assemblies of great sages and foremost royal seers, and among Siddhas, Charanas, Yakshas, and the hosts of mighty serpents,
All were seated in their proper places, radiant with honor and power, shining in their splendor like Agni, Soma, and the Sun.
As the Gandharvas played the vinas, O delight of the Kurus, and the divine, enchanting songs began, O wide-eyed one,
While all the chief Apsarases were dancing, O joy of the Kurus, it was said that you, Partha, alone did not look at any but me.
At that great bathing ceremony among the gods, when your father had given permission, the gods returned to their own abodes.
In the same way, all the Apsarases, distinguished among women, returned to their own homes; and others too, O subduer of foes, were dismissed by your father.
Then, by Indra’s command, Citrarshena came to me, O lotus-eyed one, and he himself spoke to me.
'For your sake, O fair-complexioned one, I have been sent by the lord of the gods; do what is pleasing to Mahendra, to me, and to yourself.'
'Desire Partha, who is equal to Indra in battle, endowed with beauty, generosity, and noble qualities, O lovely-hipped one,'—thus he spoke to me then.
Thus permitted by him and by your father, O sinless one, I have come to you, O subduer of foes, to serve you.
Not only was I sent by Indra and have come, but, O hero, this has long been my cherished desire as well.
