Indradyumna was slain in anger, the Yavana and Kaśerumān as well; the lord of Saubha, Śālva, was killed by you, and Saubha was destroyed.
Thus these were slain in battle; now hear of others as well: on the Irāvatī, the Bhoja, equal to Kārtavīrya in battle, and Gopati and Tālaketu were both struck down by you.
And you, Janardana, having made that blessed, sage-beloved city of Dvaraka your own, will cause the ocean to be traversed.
Neither anger nor envy nor falsehood, O slayer of Madhu, nor cruelty, nor unrighteousness, O descendant of Dasharha, abides in you.
As you sat in the midst of the sanctuary, shining with your own brilliance, all the sages approached you, O Acyuta, and sought protection.
At the end of the age, O slayer of Madhu, you withdraw all beings into yourself, making the world your own, O scorcher of foes.
At the beginning of the age, O descendant of Vrishni, from the lotus of your navel was born Brahma, the teacher of the moving and unmoving, by whom this entire world exists; to slay him, the terrible demons Madhu and Kaitabha arose.
Seeing their transgression, as you, Hari, grew angry, from your forehead was born Shambhu, the three-eyed, trident-bearing one.
Thus, these two lords of the gods also arose from your body; both act according to your command—so Narada has told me.
So too, O Narayana, in ancient times you performed a great sacrifice with abundant gifts, O Krishna, in the forest of Caitraratha.
Neither the others nor those beyond will do, nor have done, the deeds, O god, that you performed even as a child, mighty one.
O lotus-eyed one, aided by Baladeva, you dwelt with Brahma in the palace of Viraja.
Having spoken thus about Krishna, the great soul, the son of Pandu fell silent; then Janardana spoke to Partha.
You are mine, and I am yours; those who are mine are yours as well; whoever hates you, hates me; whoever follows you, follows me.
You are Nara among men, difficult to overcome; I am Hari, Narayana; at the right time, we, the sages Nara and Narayana, have come to this world.
You are not different from me, Partha, nor I from you; it is not possible to know any distinction between us, O best of the Bharatas.
Having spoken these most dear words to Pandava, the lotus-eyed Hrishikesha, pleased, remained silent there.
When these words had been spoken by the great-souled Kesava, as the assembly of heroes and kings grew agitated—
Surrounded by her brothers and the heroic sons of Drupada, Panchali approached the lotus-eyed Krishna, who was seated with the Yadavas, and, seeking refuge, addressed him.
O Vasudeva, Hrishikesha, younger brother of Vasava, Acyuta, you are the god of gods among the gods—so said Dvaipayana.
In the earliest creation of beings, Asita Devala declared you to be the sole Lord of creatures, the creator of all worlds.
You are Vishnu, O unconquerable one; you are the sacrifice, O slayer of Madhu. You are the sacrificer, and you are the one to whom sacrifice is offered, as Jamadagni has said.
The sages call you the earth and truth, O supreme among men. Born from truth and sacrifice, so said Kashyapa about you.
Even among the Sādhyas, the gods, and the auspicious ones, you are the Lord of lords, the creator and ruler of the worlds, as Nārada has declared you.
Again and again, you sport with the hosts of gods—Brahma, Shankara, Indra, and others—like a child with his playthings, O tiger among men.
The sky is covered by your head, and the earth by your feet, O lord of the earth; the worlds are in your belly, and you are the eternal person.
Among the sages who are scorched by knowledge and austerity, whose souls are purified by penance and satisfied by self-realization, you are the best.
For the royal sages who perform virtuous deeds, who do not turn back in battle, and who possess all virtues, you are the refuge, O best of men. You are the lord, you are the all-pervading one, you are the soul of all beings, and you move within them.
The guardians of the worlds, the worlds themselves, the stars, the ten directions, the sky, the moon, and the sun—all are established in you.
Mortality for beings and immortality for the dwellers in heaven—all the affairs of the worlds, O mighty-armed one, are established in you.
