न तेषामापदः सन्ति नाधयो व्याधयस्तथा। ये तवानन्यमनसा कुर्वन्त्यर्चनवन्दनम्
Those who worship and honor you with undistracted mind have no calamities, no sorrows, nor diseases.
सर्वरोगैर्विरहिताः सर्वपापाविवर्जिताः। त्वद्भावभक्ताः सुखिनो भवन्ति चिरजीविनः
Devotees who contemplate you are free from all diseases, untouched by all sins, happy, and live long lives.
त्वं ममापन्नकामस्य सर्वातिथ्यं चिकीर्षतः। अन्नमन्नपते दातुमभितः श्रद्धयाऽर्हसि
You, O Lord of Food, are worthy to give food to me, who am afflicted by want and wish to honor all guests, with faith on every side.
येच तेऽनुचराः सर्वे पादोपान्तं समाश्रिताः। माठरारुणदण्डाद्यास्तांस्तान्वन्देऽशनिक्षुभान्
And all your attendants who have taken refuge at your feet—those named Mathara, Aruna, Danda, and others—I bow to them, who are agitated like thunderbolts.
क्षुभया सहिता मैत्री याश्चान्या भूतमातरः। ताश्च सर्वा नमस्यामि पान्तु मां शरणागतम् ।।]
And all the other Mothers of beings, who are united with agitation and friendship, I also bow to them all; may they protect me, who have sought refuge.
कण्ठदघ्ने जले स्थित्वा मन्त्रैः स्तोत्रैश्च तोषितः। ततो दिवाकरः प्रीतो दर्शयामास पाण्डवम्। दीप्यमानः स्ववपुषा ज्वलन्निव हुताशनः
Standing in water up to his throat, having pleased him with mantras and hymns, then the delighted Sun revealed himself to the Pandava, shining with his own form, blazing like sacrificial fire.
यत्तेऽभिलषितं किंचित्तत्त्वं सर्वमवाप्स्यसि। अहमन्नं प्रदास्यामि सप्त पञ्च च ते समाः
Whatever you have desired in truth, you shall obtain it all. I will grant you food for seven and five years.
गृह्णीष्व पिठरं ताम्रं मया दत्तं नराधिप। यावद्वर्त्स्यति पाञ्चाली पात्रेणानेन सुव्रत
Take this copper vessel, O king, which I have given. As long as Draupadi uses this vessel, O steadfast one, it will suffice.
फलमूलामिषं शाकं संस्कृतं यन्महानसे। चतुर्विधं तदन्नाद्यमक्षय्यं ते भविष्यति। इतश्चतुर्दशे वर्षे भूयो राज्यमवाप्स्यसि
Fruits, roots, meat, and vegetables—whatever is prepared in the kitchen—these four kinds of food and drink will be inexhaustible for you. And in the fourteenth year from now, you shall regain your kingdom.
एवमुक्त्वा तु भगवांस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
Having spoken thus, the Blessed One vanished there itself.
लब्ध्वा वरं तु कौन्तेयो जलादुत्तीर्य धर्मवित्। जग्राह पादौ धौम्यस्य भ्रातॄंश्च परिषस्वजे
Having received the boon, the son of Kunti, versed in righteousness, came out of the water, grasped Dhaumya's feet, and embraced his brothers.
द्रौपद्या सह-संगम्य पश्यमानोऽपयात्प्राभुः। महानसे तदान्नं तु साधयामास पाण्डवः
Meeting together with Draupadi, the lordly Pandava entered the kitchen and began to prepare the food.
संस्कृतं प्रसवं याति स्वल्पमन्नं चतुर्विधम्। अक्षय्यं वर्धते चान्नं तेनाभोजयत द्विजान्
The prepared food, though little and of four kinds, became inexhaustible and increased; with it he fed the twice-born.
भुक्तवत्सु च विप्रेषु भोजयित्वाऽनुजानपि। शेषं विघससंज्ञं तुपश्चाद्भुङ्क्ते युधिष्ठिरः
After the Brahmins had eaten and his brothers had been fed, Yudhishthira would then eat what remained, called vighasa.
युधिष्ठिरं भोजयित्वा शेषमश्नाति पार्षती। [द्रौपद्यां भुज्यमानायां तदन्नं क्षयमेति च ।।]
After feeding Yudhishthira, Draupadi would eat the leftovers; when Draupadi ate, the food would be finished.
एवं दिवाकरात्प्राप्य दिवाकरसमप्रभः। कामान्मनोभिलषितान्ब्राह्मणेभ्योऽददात्प्रभुः
Thus, having received from the Sun, the lord, radiant as the Sun, gave to the Brahmins all the desires of their hearts.
पुरोहितपुरोगाश्च तिथिनक्षत्रपर्वसु। इज्यार्थे संप्रवर्तन्ते विधिमन्त्रप्रमाणतः
Led by the priest, on lunar days, star days, and festivals, they performed sacrifices according to rule and mantra.
ततः कृतस्वस्त्ययना धौम्येन सह पाण्डवाः। द्विजसङ्घैः परिवृताः प्रययुः काम्यकं वनम्
Then, having performed auspicious rites with Dhaumya, the Pandavas, surrounded by groups of Brahmins, set out for the Kamyaka forest.
पुष्पोपहारबलिभिर्बहुशश्च यथाविधि। सर्वात्मभूतं संपूज्य यतप्राणो जितेन्द्रियः
With offerings of flowers and oblations, many times and according to rule, having worshipped the all-pervading one, self-restrained and with senses subdued—
स्तवेन केन विप्रर्षे स तु राजा युधिष्ठिरः। विप्रार्थमाराधितवान्सूर्यमद्भुतविक्रमम्
With a certain hymn, O best of sages, that king Yudhishthira worshipped the Sun of wondrous might for the sake of the Brahmins.
मयि स्नेहोऽस्ति चेद्ब्रह्मन्यद्यनुग्रहभागहम्। भगवन्नास्ति चेद्गुद्यं तच्च मे ब्रूहि सांप्रतम्
If you have affection for me, O Brahman, and I am worthy of your favor, O Blessed One, then tell me now if there is anything I must do.
शृणुष्वांवहितो राजञ्शुचिर्भूत्वा समाहितः। क्षणं च कुरु राजेन्द्र गुह्यं वक्ष्यामि ते हितम्
Listen attentively, O king, having purified yourself and become focused; wait a moment, O king of kings, for I will tell you a secret for your benefit.
धौम्येन तु यथाप्रोक्तं पार्थाय सुमहात्मने। नाम्नामष्टोत्तरं पुण्यं शतं तच्छृणु भूपते
As Dhaumya instructed, hear, O great-souled Partha, the auspicious hundred and eight names; listen to them, O king.
सूर्योऽर्यभा भगस्त्वष्टा पूषाऽर्कः सविता रविः। गभस्तिमानजः कालो मृत्युर्धाता प्रभाकरः
Surya, Aryaman, Bhaga, Tvashta, Pushan, Arka, Savita, Ravi, Gabhastiman, Aja, Kala, Mrityu, Dhata, Prabhakara—
पृथिव्यापश्च तेजश्च खं वायुश्च परायणम्। सोमो बृहस्पतिः शुक्रो बुधोऽङ्गारक एव च
Earth, waters, fire, space, and wind are your abodes; Soma, Brihaspati, Shukra, Budha, and also Angaraka.
इन्द्रो विवस्वान्दीप्तांशुः शुचिः शौरिः शनैश्चरः। ब्रह्मा विष्णुश्च रुद्रश्च स्कन्दो वैश्रवणो यमः
Indra, Vivasvat, the radiant one, the pure one, Shauri, Shanaishcara, Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Skanda, Vaishravana, and Yama.
वैद्युतो जाठरश्चाग्निरैन्धनस्तेजसां पतिः। धर्मध्वजो वेदकर्ता वेगाङ्गो वेदवाहनः
The lightning, the digestive fire, the sacrificial fire, the lord of flames, the banner of dharma, the maker of the Vedas, the swift-limbed, the bearer of the Vedas.
कृतं त्रेता द्वापरश्च कलिः सर्वामराश्रयः। कला काष्ठा मुहूर्ताश्च पक्षा मासा ऋतुस्तथा
Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—the refuge of all the gods; divisions of time, moments, muhurtas, fortnights, months, and seasons as well.
संवत्सरकरोऽश्वत्थः कालचक्रो विभावसुः। पुरुषः शाश्वतो योगी व्यक्ताव्यक्तः सनातनः
The maker of the year, the ashvattha tree, the wheel of time, the blazing one, the eternal person, the yogi, manifest and unmanifest, the ancient one.
लोकाध्यक्षः सुराध्यक्षो विश्वकर्मा तमोनुदः। वरुणः सागरोंशश्च जीमूतो जीवनोऽरिहा
The overseer of worlds, the lord of gods, the architect of the universe, the dispeller of darkness, Varuna, the ocean, the portion of the sea, the cloud, the giver of life, the destroyer of enemies.
