सब्रह्मकेषु लोकेषु सप्तस्वप्यखिलेषु च। न तद्भूतमहं मन्ये यदर्कादतिरिच्यते
In all the seven worlds, including those of Brahma, I do not think there is any being that surpasses the sun.
सन्ति चान्यानि सत्वानिवीर्यवन्ति महान्ति च। न तु तेषां तथा दीप्तिः प्रभावो वायथा तव
There are other beings, powerful and great, but none have such radiance or might as you.
ज्योतीषित्वयि सर्वाणि त्वं सर्वज्योतिषां पतिः। त्वयिसत्त्वं च सत्त्वं च सर्वेभावाश्च सात्त्विकाः
In you is all light; you are the lord of all luminaries. In you is all being and all goodness; all sattvic beings exist in you.
त्वत्तेजसा कृतंचक्रं सुनाभं विश्वकर्मणा। देवारीणां मदो येन नाशितः शार्ङ्गधन्वना
By your energy, the wheel with fine spokes was fashioned by Vishvakarman, by which the pride of the gods' enemies was destroyed by the wielder of Sharnga.
त्वमादायांशुभिस्तेजो निदाघे सर्वदेहिनाम्। सर्वौषधिरसानां च पुनर्वर्षासु मुञ्चसि
In summer, you draw forth the energy of all embodied beings with your rays, and in the rains you release it again for all the essences of plants.
तपन्त्यन्ते दहन्त्यन्ये गर्जन्त्यन्ये तथा घनाः। विद्योतन्ते प्रवर्षन्ति तव प्रावृषि रश्मयः
At the end, some burn, others scorch, and others thunder—so do the clouds; your rays flash, thunder, and pour down in the rainy season.
न तथा सुखयत्यग्निर्न प्रावारा न कम्बलाः। शीतवातार्दितं लोकं यथा तव मरीचयः
Neither fire, nor cloaks, nor blankets bring such comfort to those afflicted by cold and wind as do your rays.
त्रयोदशद्वीपवतीं गोभिर्भासयसे महीम्। त्रयाणामपि लोकानां हितायैकः प्रवर्तसे
With your rays you illumine the earth with its thirteen islands; for the welfare of the three worlds, you alone act.
तव यद्युदयो न स्यादन्धं जगदिदं भवेत्। न च धर्मार्थकामेषु प्रवर्तेरन्मनीषिणः
If your rising did not occur, this world would be plunged in darkness, and the wise would not engage in righteousness, wealth, or desire.
आधानपशुबन्धेष्टिमन्त्रयज्ञतपःक्रियाः। त्वत्प्रसादादवाप्यन्ते ब्रह्मक्षत्रविशां गणैः
The rites of consecration, animal sacrifice, sacrificial offerings, mantras, sacrifices, and austerities are accomplished by the groups of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas only through your grace.
यदहर्ब्रह्मणः प्रोक्तं सहस्रयुगसंमितम्। तस्य त्वमादिरन्तश्च कालज्ञैः परिकीर्तितः
That day of Brahma, which is said to be equal to a thousand ages, you are declared by those who know time to be its beginning and its end.
मनूनां मनुपुत्राणां जगतोऽमानवस्य च। मन्वन्तराणां सर्वेषामीश्वराणां त्वमीश्वरः
You are the lord of all Manus, their sons, the world, both human and non-human, of all the Manvantaras, and of all rulers.
संहारकाले संप्राप्ते तव क्रोधविनिःसृतः। संवर्तकाग्निस्त्रैलोक्यं भस्मीकृत्यावतिष्ठते
When the time of destruction arrives, the fire of dissolution, released from your wrath, stands after reducing the three worlds to ashes.
त्वद्दीधितिसमुत्पन्ना नानावर्ण महाघनाः। सैरावताः साशनयः कुर्वन्त्याभूतसंप्लवम्
Clouds of many colors, massive and born from your radiance, accompanied by lightning, cause the great flood of dissolution.
कृत्वा द्वादशधाऽऽत्मानं द्वादशादित्यतां गतः। संहृत्यैकार्णवं सर्वं त्वं शोषयसि रश्मिभिः
Having made yourself twelvefold, assuming the form of the twelve Adityas, you dry up everything into a single ocean with your rays.
त्वामिन्द्रमाहुस्त्वं रुद्रस्त्वं विष्णुस्त्वं प्रजापतिः। त्वमग्निस्त्वं मनः सूक्ष्मं प्रभुस्त्वं ब्रह्मशाश्वतं
They call you Indra; you are Rudra, you are Vishnu, you are Prajapati; you are Agni, you are the subtle mind, you are the eternal Brahman, the Lord.
त्वं हंसः सविता भानुरंशुमाली वृषाकपिः। विवस्वान्मिहिरः पूषा मित्रो धर्मस्तथैव च
You are the Swan, Savita, Bhanu, the one adorned with rays, Vrishakapi, Vivasvat, Mihira, Pusha, Mitra, and likewise Dharma.
सहस्ररश्मिरादित्यस्तपनस्त्वं गवां पतिः। मार्तण्डोऽर्को रविः सूर्यः शरण्यो दिनकृत्तथा
You are the thousand-rayed Aditya, the burning one, the lord of cows, Martanda, Arka, Ravi, Surya, the refuge, and the maker of day.
दिवाकरः सप्तसप्तिर्धामकेशी विरोचनः। आशुगामी तमोघ्नश्च हरिताश्वश्च कीर्त्यसे
You are Divakara, Saptasapti, Dhamakeshi, Virocana, swift-moving, dispeller of darkness, and famed as the one with green horses.
सप्तम्यागथवा षष्ठ्यां भक्त्या पूजां करोति यः। अनिर्विण्णोऽनहंकारी तं लक्ष्मीर्भजते नरम्
Whoever, with devotion and without weariness or pride, performs worship on the seventh or sixth day, to him Lakshmi grants her favor.
न तेषामापदः सन्ति नाधयो व्याधयस्तथा। ये तवानन्यमनसा कुर्वन्त्यर्चनवन्दनम्
Those who worship and honor you with undistracted mind have no calamities, no sorrows, nor diseases.
सर्वरोगैर्विरहिताः सर्वपापाविवर्जिताः। त्वद्भावभक्ताः सुखिनो भवन्ति चिरजीविनः
Devotees who contemplate you are free from all diseases, untouched by all sins, happy, and live long lives.
त्वं ममापन्नकामस्य सर्वातिथ्यं चिकीर्षतः। अन्नमन्नपते दातुमभितः श्रद्धयाऽर्हसि
You, O Lord of Food, are worthy to give food to me, who am afflicted by want and wish to honor all guests, with faith on every side.
येच तेऽनुचराः सर्वे पादोपान्तं समाश्रिताः। माठरारुणदण्डाद्यास्तांस्तान्वन्देऽशनिक्षुभान्
And all your attendants who have taken refuge at your feet—those named Mathara, Aruna, Danda, and others—I bow to them, who are agitated like thunderbolts.
क्षुभया सहिता मैत्री याश्चान्या भूतमातरः। ताश्च सर्वा नमस्यामि पान्तु मां शरणागतम् ।।]
And all the other Mothers of beings, who are united with agitation and friendship, I also bow to them all; may they protect me, who have sought refuge.
कण्ठदघ्ने जले स्थित्वा मन्त्रैः स्तोत्रैश्च तोषितः। ततो दिवाकरः प्रीतो दर्शयामास पाण्डवम्। दीप्यमानः स्ववपुषा ज्वलन्निव हुताशनः
Standing in water up to his throat, having pleased him with mantras and hymns, then the delighted Sun revealed himself to the Pandava, shining with his own form, blazing like sacrificial fire.
यत्तेऽभिलषितं किंचित्तत्त्वं सर्वमवाप्स्यसि। अहमन्नं प्रदास्यामि सप्त पञ्च च ते समाः
Whatever you have desired in truth, you shall obtain it all. I will grant you food for seven and five years.
गृह्णीष्व पिठरं ताम्रं मया दत्तं नराधिप। यावद्वर्त्स्यति पाञ्चाली पात्रेणानेन सुव्रत
Take this copper vessel, O king, which I have given. As long as Draupadi uses this vessel, O steadfast one, it will suffice.
फलमूलामिषं शाकं संस्कृतं यन्महानसे। चतुर्विधं तदन्नाद्यमक्षय्यं ते भविष्यति। इतश्चतुर्दशे वर्षे भूयो राज्यमवाप्स्यसि
Fruits, roots, meat, and vegetables—whatever is prepared in the kitchen—these four kinds of food and drink will be inexhaustible for you. And in the fourteenth year from now, you shall regain your kingdom.
एवमुक्त्वा तु भगवांस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
Having spoken thus, the Blessed One vanished there itself.
