I will slay Duryodhana; Dhanañjaya will slay Karṇa; Sahadeva will slay Śakuni, the dice-player.
Again, I will speak this great word in the midst of the assembly: The gods will make true whatever battle is to come.
I will slay this wicked Suyodhana with my mace in battle, and I will place my foot upon his head on the earth.
I will drink the blood of Duḥśāsana, that harsh-spoken, wicked man, like a lion drinks.
Bhīmasena, those who bear enmity with you here are not aware; like intoxicated beasts, they do not perceive great danger.
Bhīma, such resolve is not recognized among the virtuous by mere words; in the fourteenth year, they will witness what will happen.
The earth will drink the blood of Duryodhana, Karṇa, Śakuni the wicked, and Duḥśāsana as the fourth.
I will slay Karṇa in battle, by Bhīmasena's command, for his envy, his gaze, his words, and his boasting.
Arjuna declares, out of love for Bhīma, 'I will slay Karṇa and his followers in battle with arrows.'
And any other kings who oppose me, deceived in mind, I will send all of them to the abode of Yama with arrows.
If my truth wavers, let the Himalaya move from its place, let the sun lose its brilliance, let the moon's coolness vanish.
If, after fourteen years, Duryodhana does not return the kingdom, then, having been challenged, this truth will come to pass.
When Partha had spoken thus, the illustrious son of Madri, the valiant Sahadeva, grasped his mighty arm.
Desiring the death of Saubala, his eyes reddened with anger, breathing hard like a serpent, he spoke these words:
Fool, you think these are dice, O destroyer of Gandhara's honor; these are not dice, but sharp arrows, which you have encountered in battle.
And just as Bhima spoke, addressing you and your kin, so shall I accomplish that deed; do all that must be done, O Kuru.
With force in battle, I will slay you and your kin, Saubala, if you stand in the fight according to the duty of a kshatriya.
Hearing Sahadeva's words, Nakula, most handsome among men, also spoke these words:
This daughter of Yajnasena was won in dice by the sons of Dhritarashtra, who, remaining there to please Duryodhana, uttered harsh words.
Those ill-behaved sons of Dhritarashtra, doomed by time and seeking death, I will send most of them to the abode of Yama.
And Uluka, the wicked son of Saubala, dear to him and cruel, I will surely slay that cruel wretch among men in battle.
By the command of Yudhishthira, following the path of Draupadi, I will soon make the earth free of Dhritarashtra's sons.
Thus all those tiger-like men, their arms strong and extended, having made many vows, approached Dhritarashtra.
I take leave of the Bharatas, and also the aged grandsire, the king Somadatta, and the great king Bahlika.
I take leave of Drona, Kripa, the other kings, Ashvatthama as well, Vidura, Dhritarashtra, and all the sons of Dhritarashtra.
I take leave of the mighty Saumadatti, the wise Vikarna, Yuyutsu, Sanjaya, and all the other members of the assembly.
I take leave of the noble Gandhari, and also my mother Pritha; having taken leave of all, I depart, and will see you again upon my return.
But they said nothing to him, restrained by modesty before Yudhishthira; only in their hearts did they wish well for that wise one.
Noble Pritha, the royal princess, should not go to the forest; she is delicate, elderly, and always accustomed to comfort.
Let the blessed one remain here, honored in my house; thus, O sons of Pritha, know this, and may you all be free from affliction.
