Those who, intoxicated by wealth, wished to defeat the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra—those Pāṇḍavas, now conquered and stripped of their riches, will go to the forest.
Let their splendid armor and radiant garments be stripped off; let all their deerskins be cast out, just as they lost to the son of Subala in the game.
Those who always believed there were no men like them in the world—today these Pāṇḍavas will know themselves, reversed in fortune, like sterile sesame seeds.
This is the garment for such men—see, these deerskins are for those noble ones, consecrated for battle, like the Pāṇḍavas who are now subdued.
The wise Saumakīrti, Yajñasena, gave his daughter Pāñcālī to the Pāṇḍavas; he did a good deed, but here it has come to nothing—the Pārthas, husbands of Yājñasenī, are now impotent.
Seeing them in the forest, poor and destitute, clad in thin cloaks and upper garments of deerskin—what joy will you find, Yājñasenī? Choose here any husband you desire.
Here are all the Kurus, assembled—patient, self-controlled, and rich in wealth; choose one of them as your husband, so that this reversal of fortune does not carry you away.
Just as sterile sesame seeds, or animals made of hide, so are all the Pāṇḍavas—like barley eaten by crows.
Why serve those fallen Pāṇḍavas? Serving sterile sesame seeds is a wasted effort. Thus, the cruel son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra spoke harsh words to the Pārthas.
Hearing this, Bhīmasena, filled with intense anger, rebuked him loudly, restraining his wrath, and, suddenly approaching, spoke to him like a Himalayan lion to a jackal.
You speak uselessly, surrounded by cruel, wicked men; it is only because of your Gandhāran cunning that you boast in the midst of kings.
Just as you wound us here deeply with arrows of words, so I will remind you by cutting your vital points in battle.
Those who follow you, driven by anger and greed, and their protectors and kin—I will lead them all to the abode of Yama.
As he spoke thus, exiled in deerskins, Duḥśāsana danced around him in the midst of the Kurus, shamelessly calling out 'cow, cow!' on the path of unrighteousness.
Duḥśāsana, to speak cruel and harsh words—who can boast after gaining wealth through deceit?
Let not Arjuna or Bhīma enter the worlds of the virtuous, if, in battle, he does not pierce your chest and drink your blood.
After slaying the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra in battle, before the eyes of all archers, I will soon find peace; I tell you this truthfully.
The king Duryodhana, seeing Bhīmasena's lion-like stride, imitated his gait with delight, foolishly, as the Pāṇḍavas departed from the assembly.
Vṛkodara, half-turned back, said: 'This is not finished. Soon, I will remind you, O fool, when I slay you and your allies.'
Thus, perceiving the insult to himself, Bhīma, strong and proud, restrained his anger, and, following the king, spoke these words in the Kaurava assembly.
I will slay Duryodhana; Dhanañjaya will slay Karṇa; Sahadeva will slay Śakuni, the dice-player.
Again, I will speak this great word in the midst of the assembly: The gods will make true whatever battle is to come.
I will slay this wicked Suyodhana with my mace in battle, and I will place my foot upon his head on the earth.
I will drink the blood of Duḥśāsana, that harsh-spoken, wicked man, like a lion drinks.
Bhīmasena, those who bear enmity with you here are not aware; like intoxicated beasts, they do not perceive great danger.
Bhīma, such resolve is not recognized among the virtuous by mere words; in the fourteenth year, they will witness what will happen.
The earth will drink the blood of Duryodhana, Karṇa, Śakuni the wicked, and Duḥśāsana as the fourth.
I will slay Karṇa in battle, by Bhīmasena's command, for his envy, his gaze, his words, and his boasting.
Arjuna declares, out of love for Bhīma, 'I will slay Karṇa and his followers in battle with arrows.'
And any other kings who oppose me, deceived in mind, I will send all of them to the abode of Yama with arrows.
