शृणोमि वाक्यं तव राजपुत्रि नेमे पार्थाः किञ्चिदपि ब्रुवन्ति। सा त्वं प्रियार्थं शृणु वाक्यमेत- द्यदुच्यते पापमतिः कृतघ्नः
I hear your words, princess, yet the sons of Pandu say nothing at all; so now, for your sake, listen to these words spoken by this wicked, ungrateful man.
सुयोधनः सानुचरः सुदुष्टः सहैव राजा निकृतः सूनुना च यद्येष वाचं महदुच्यमानां न श्रोष्यते पापमतिः सुदुष्टः
Suyodhana, with his followers, is thoroughly evil; the king, together with his son, is deceitful; if this wicked-minded one does not heed these grave words, he will remain thoroughly corrupt.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा द्रुपदस्य पुत्रीं क्षत्ताऽब्रवीद्धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रम्
Having spoken thus to the daughter of Drupada, the charioteer addressed the son of Dhritarashtra.
मा क्लिश्यतां वै द्रुपदस्य पुत्रीं मा त्वं चरीं द्रक्ष्यसि राजपुत्र
Do not torment the daughter of Drupada; you, prince, will not see happiness.
यद्येवं त्वं महाराज सङ्क्लेशयसि द्रौपदीम्। अचिरेणैव कालेन पुत्रस्ते सह मन्त्रिभिः। गमिष्यति क्षयं पापः पाण्डवक्षयकारणात्
If you, O great king, thus afflict Draupadi, then soon, along with his counselors, your son—the sinner—will meet destruction because of the wrong done to the Pandavas.
भीमार्जुनाभ्यां क्रुद्धाभ्यां माद्रीपुत्रद्वयेन च। तस्मान्निवारय सुतं मा विनाशं विचिन्तय
By Bhima and Arjuna, enraged, and by the two sons of Madri as well—therefore restrain your son; do not contemplate ruin.
एतच्छुत्वा मन्दबुद्धिर्नोत्तरं किञ्चिदब्रवीत्। ततो दुर्योधनस्तत्र दैवमोहबलात्कृतः
Hearing this, the dull-witted one gave no reply; then Duryodhana, there, compelled by the power of fate and delusion—
अचिन्त्य क्षत्तुर्वचनं हर्षेणायतलोचनः। ऊरू दर्शयते पापो द्रौपद्या वै मुहुर्मुहुः
Ignoring the charioteer's words, his eyes wide with delight, the wicked Duryodhana repeatedly displayed his thighs to Draupadi.
ऊरौ सन्दर्श्यमाने तु निरीक्ष्य तु सुयोधनम्। वृकोदरस्तदालोक्य नेत्रे चोल्फाल्य लोहिते
As he showed his thighs, Bhima, observing Suyodhana, gazed at him, his eyes reddened and brows furrowed.
एतत्समीक्ष्यात्मनि चावमानं नियम्य मन्युं बलनान्स मानी। राजानुजः संसदि कौरवाणां विनिष्क्रमन्वाक्यमुवाच भीमः
Seeing this insult to himself, restraining his anger with effort, the proud younger brother of the king, in the Kaurava assembly, rose and spoke these words—Bhima:
अहं दुर्योधनं हन्ता कर्णं हन्ता धनञ्जयः। शकुनिं चाक्षकितवं सहदेवो हनिष्यति
I shall slay Duryodhana, and Dhananjaya will slay Karna; Sahadeva will kill Shakuni, the master of dice.
दुश्शासनस्य रुधिरं पास्यामि मृगराडिव
I will drink the blood of Dushasana, as a lion drinks.
भीमसेन न ते सन्ति येषां वैरं त्वया सह। नन्दा गृहेषु न बुद्ध्यन्ते महद्भयम्
Bhimasena, those who bear enmity with you do not prosper; their families, in their homes, do not perceive the great danger.
नैव वाचा व्यवसितं भीम विज्ञायते सताम्। यदि स्थास्यन्ति सङ्ग्रामे क्षत्रधर्मेण वै सह
The resolve of the righteous, Bhima, is not revealed by words; if they stand in battle, upholding the duty of warriors—
दुर्योधनस्य कर्णस्य शकुनेश्च दुरात्मनः। दुश्शासनचतुर्थानां भूमिः पास्यति शोणितम्
The earth will drink the blood of Duryodhana, Karna, the evil Shakuni, and the fourth, Dushasana.
असूयितारं वक्तारं प्रहृष्टानां दुरात्मनाम्। भीमसेन नियोगात्ते हन्ताऽहं कर्णमाहवे
Of those evil ones who, out of envy, speak boastfully and rejoice, by Bhimasena's command, I shall slay Karna in battle.
कर्णं कर्णानुगांश्चैव रणे हन्ताऽस्मि पत्रिभिः। ये चान्ये विप्रयोत्स्यन्ति बुद्धिमोहेन मां नृपाः। तान्स्म सर्वञ्छितैर्बाणैर्नेताऽस्मि यमसादनम्
I will slay Karna and his followers in battle with arrows; and any other kings who, deluded in judgment, oppose me—I will send them all, pierced by sharp shafts, to the abode of Yama.
चलेद्वि हिमवान्स्थानान्निष्प्रभः स्याद्दिवाकरः। शैत्यं सोमात्प्रणश्येत मत्सत्यं विचलेद्यदि
The Himalayas might move from their place, the sun might lose its brilliance, the moon might lose its coolness, but my word will not waver.
उत्युक्तवति पार्थे तु श्रीमान्माद्रवतीसुतः। प्रगृह्य विपुलं बाहुं सहदेवः प्रतापवान्
When Partha had spoken thus, the illustrious son of Madri, the mighty Sahadeva, raised his broad arm.
सौबलस्य वधप्रेप्सुरिदं वचनमब्रवीत्। क्रोधसंरक्तनयनो निश्वस्य च मुहुर्मुहुः
Desiring the death of the son of Subala, with eyes reddened by anger and breathing heavily again and again, he spoke these words:
यानक्षान्मन्यसे मूढ गान्धाराणां यशोहर। नैते ह्यक्षाः शिता वाणास्त्वयैते समरे धृताः
You fool, who think these dice are the glory of the Gandharas—these are not dice, but sharp arrows you hold in battle.
यथा चैवोक्तवान्भीमस्त्वामुद्दिश्य सबान्धवम्। कर्ताऽहं कर्मणा चास्य कुरुकार्याणि सर्वशः। यदि स्थस्यासि सङ्ग्रामे क्षत्रधर्मेण सौबल
Just as Bhima has declared, addressing you and your kin, so too shall I act, accomplishing all the deeds of the Kurus, if you stand in battle by the warrior's code, O son of Subala.
सहदेववचः श्रुत्वा नकुलोऽपि विशाम्पते। दर्शनीयतमो नॄणामिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
Hearing Sahadeva's words, Nakula, most handsome among men, also spoke these words:
सुतेयं यज्ञसेनस्य द्यूतेऽस्मिन्धृतराष्ट्रजैः। यैर्वाचः श्राविता रूक्षा धूर्तैर्दुर्योधनप्रियैः
This daughter of Yajnasena was staked in this game by the sons of Dhritarashtra, whose harsh words were uttered by cunning men devoted to Duryodhana.
धार्तराष्ट्रान्सुदुर्वृत्तान्मुमूर्षून्कालचोदितान्। दर्शयिष्यामि भूयिष्ठमहं वैवस्वतक्षयम्
I shall show the wicked sons of Dhritarashtra, who are ill-behaved and doomed by Time, the destruction of Yama in great measure.
उलूकं च दुरात्मानं सौबलस्य प्रियं सुतम्। हन्ताऽहमस्मि समरे मम शत्रुं नराधमम्
And Uluka, the evil-minded beloved son of Subala, my enemy and the lowest of men—I shall slay him in battle.
निदेशाद्धर्मराजस्य द्रौपद्याः पदवीं चरन्। नर्धार्तराष्टां पृथिवीं कर्तास्मि नचिरादिवा
By the command of the righteous king and following the path of Draupadi, I shall soon make the earth, oppressed by the sons of Dhritarashtra, resound.
यस्माच्चोरुं दर्शयसे यस्माच्चोरुं निरीक्षसे। तस्मात्तव ह्यधर्मिष्ठ ऊरौ मृत्युर्भविष्यति
Because you display and gaze upon your thighs so arrogantly, therefore, O most unrighteous one, death will come to your thighs.
यस्माच्चैवं क्लेशयति भ्राता ते मां दुरात्मवान्। तस्मादुधिरमेवास्य पास्यते वै वृकोदरः
And because your wicked brother torments me in this way, therefore Bhima will surely drink his blood.
इमं च पापिष्ठमतिं कर्णं समुतबान्धवम्। सामात्यं सपरीवारं हनिष्यति धनञ्जयः
This Karna, of most sinful mind, along with his kin, his ministers, and his retinue, will be slain by Dhananjaya.
