O King, I shall tell you about the servants of the Pandavas, for whom Yudhishthira arranges both raw and cooked meat.
There are three hundred thousand elephant riders with their horses, and ten million foot soldiers as well.
Meat that is being measured, cooked, and distributed elsewhere, and also at the sound of auspicious rites.
In Yudhishthira's residence, I saw no one among all castes who had not eaten, drunk, been adorned, or honored.
There are eighty-eight thousand learned householders, each supported by thirty servants by Yudhishthira; they are well pleased and fully satisfied, and they wished for nothing more.
Ten thousand ascetics with celibate vows also eat in Yudhishthira's residence, using golden vessels.
Whether uneaten or already eaten, all food was carefully examined by Draupadi, O lord of men.
No one would refuse to lend a helping hand to the son of Kunti, O Bharata; the Panchalas by kinship, and the Andhaka-Vrishnis by friendship.
Those kings who are noble, truthful, and of great vows, who are accomplished in knowledge, speakers, and immersed in the final bath of the Vedas.
Steadfast, modest, righteous, and imperishable, those crowned kings gathered around him.
For the purpose of gifts, the kings brought cows for milking in bronze vessels; I saw many thousands of forest cows here and there.
There, the kings themselves, without distraction, brought various vessels, both high and low, for the consecration, honoring them properly.
The king of Bahlika brought a chariot adorned with gold; Sudakshina yoked it with white horses from Kamboja.
Sunitha, full of joy and mighty strength, brought the yoke; and the lord of the Cedis himself brought the banner, raising it with his own hands.
The king of Dakshina brought armor, the Magadha king brought a garland and turban; Vasudana, the great archer, brought a sixty-year-old elephant.
The Matsya king brought shoes bound with gold and a cloak of fish skin; the Avanti king brought various kinds of water for the consecration.
Cekitana brought a bow as a gift, the Kashi king brought a sword, and Shalya brought a spear adorned with gold.
Then Dhaumya and Vyasa, the great ascetics, sprinkled holy water, placing Narada in front, along with Devala, the dark sage.
The great sages, filled with joy, attended the consecration, together with Jamadagni's son and other masters of the Vedas.
The high-souled ones, versed in mantras and generous with gifts, gathered there, just as the seven seers approach Indra in heaven.
Satyaki, steadfast in valor, held the royal parasol for him; Dhananjaya and Bhimasena, the sons of Pandu, stood by with fans.
The two pure yak-tail whisks were held by the twins, just as in ancient times Prajapati attended Indra.
The ocean, in the form of a golden vessel crafted by Vishvakarma and worth a thousand gold pieces, brought him the conch of Varuna.
When Krishna anointed him with that, I was seized by confusion, as the waters flowed from east to west and even to the southern sea.
But to the north, O father, only the birds could go; there, hundreds of auspicious conches were sounded.
When those conches, blown with full breath, resounded, my hair stood on end; and the kings who lacked their own splendor fell to the ground.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the Pandavas, Satyaki, and Keshava as the eighth—firm in spirit, endowed with strength, and delighting in each other's company.
Seeing the kings faint and myself as well, they laughed then; and Arjuna, overjoyed, gave away hundreds of golden-horned cows.
He gave five hundred milch cows to the foremost Brahmins, O Bharata; not even Rantideva, Nabhaga, Yauvanashva, or Manu did so.
Nor did King Prithu, nor Bhagiratha, nor Yayati or Nahusha ever achieve what King Yudhishthira did.
