अन्यांश्च विविधान्धान्यान्परिगृह्य महाबलः। पाण्डवाय ददौ प्रीत्या प्रविवेश महाध्वरम्
Having gathered other kinds of grains, the mighty one gave them to the Pāṇḍava with affection and entered the great sacrifice.
नानारत्नान्बहून्गृह्य सुराष्ट्राधिपतिर्नृपः। तैलकुम्भान्महाराज द्रोणानामयुतानि च
The lord of Suraṣṭra, O King, having collected many kinds of jewels, brought ten thousand jars of oil.
गुडानपि स तान्स्वादून्सहस्रशकटैर्नृपः। एतानि सर्वाण्यादाय ददौ कुन्तीसुताय सः
He also brought those sweet cakes by the thousands of cartloads, and, taking all these, he gave them to the son of Kuntī.
अन्ये च पार्थिवा राजन्नानादेशसमागताः। रत्नानि विविधान्गृह्य ददुस्ते कौरवाय तु
Other kings, O King, who had come from various regions, brought various kinds of jewels and gave them to the Kaurava.
जम्बूद्वीपे समस्ते तु सराष्ट्रवनपर्वते। करं तु न प्रयच्छेत नास्ति पार्थस्य पार्थिवः
In all of Jambūdvīpa, among all the lands, forests, and mountains, there was no king who did not pay tribute to the son of Pṛthā.
नरः सप्तसु वर्षेसु तद्यज्ञे नास्ति नागतः। क्रतुर्नानागणैः कीर्णो बभौ शक्रसदो यथा
In those seven years, there was no man who did not come to that sacrifice; the sacrifice, crowded with various groups, shone like the assembly of Indra.
इमांश्च दायान्विविधान्निबोध मम पार्थिव। यज्ञाप्थे राजभिर्दत्तान्महतो धनसञ्चयान्
Now hear from me, O King, of these various gifts, great accumulations of wealth, given by kings for the sake of the sacrifice.
मेरुमन्दरयोर्मध्ये शैलोदामभितो नदीम्। ये ते कीचकवेणूनां छायां रम्यामुपासते
Between Meru and Mandara, near the river with stony banks, those who dwell in the pleasant shade of the Kīcaka bamboos—
खषा एकासनाद्यर्हाः प्रदरा दीर्घवेणवः। पारदाश्च कुलिन्दाश्च तङ्कणाः परतङ्कणाः
The Khaṣas, who are worthy of a single seat, the Pradaras, the long-haired Dīrghaveṇus, the Pāradas, the Kulindas, the Taṅkaṇas, and the Parataṅkaṇas—
तद्वै पिपीलिकं नाम उद्धृतं यत्पिपीलिकैः। जातरूपं द्रोणमेयमहार्षुः कुञ्जशो नराः
That which is called Pipīlika gold, which is dug up by the Pipīlikas, droṇas in measure, those men brought in heaps.
कृष्णवालांश्च चमराञ्छुक्लवालांस्तथा परान्। हिमवत्पुष्पजं चैव स्वादुक्षौद्ररसं बहु
They also brought black-haired and white-haired yak tails, and much fragrant honey from the flowers of the Himalayas.
उत्तरेभ्यः कुरुभ्यश्च व्यूढमाल्यैर्महात्मभिः। उत्तरादपि कैलासादोषधीः सुमहाबलाः
From the northern Kurus, adorned with garlands, and from beyond Kailāsa, came powerful medicinal herbs.
पार्वतीयाश्चराजान आहृत्य प्रणताः स्थिताः। अजातशत्रवे राजन्द्वारि तिष्ठन्ति वारिताः
The mountain kings, having brought their tribute, stood humbly before Ajātaśatru, waiting at the door, having been restrained.
ये परार्घ्या हिमवतः सूर्योदयगिरेरनु। एवंरूपाः समुद्रान्ते लौहित्यमभितश्च ये
Those who are most precious from the Himalayas, from the mountain of sunrise, and those at the ends of the ocean and around the Lauhitya—
फलमूलाशना ये च किराताश्चर्मवाससः। चन्द्नागरुमुख्यानि महार्हान्कम्बलानि च
Those who live on fruits and roots, the Kirātas clad in skins, and those with fine, costly blankets of sandalwood and aloe-wood as their chief possessions,
चर्मरत्नसुवर्णानि गन्धानुच्चावचानि च। कैरातकीनामयुतं दासीनां च विशंपते
Brought hides, precious stones, gold, and perfumes both rare and common, and ten thousand maidservants from the Kairātas, O lord of men.
आहृत्य रमणीयार्थान्दूरगान्मृगपक्षिणः। निचितं पर्वतेभ्यश्च हिरण्यंभूरिवर्चसम्
Having gathered delightful treasures from distant lands—beasts and birds, and heaps of gold shining like the earth’s radiance from the mountains,
बलिं च कृत्स्त्रमादाय द्वारि तिष्टन्ति वारिताः। कापव्या दरदा दर्वाः शूरा वै यमकास्तथा
Bringing all their tribute, they stand at the gate, restrained: the Kāpavyas, Daradas, Darvas, the brave Yamakas as well.
औदुम्बरा दुर्विभागा द्वारि तिष्टन्ति वारिताः। काश्मीराश्च कुमाराश्च गौरका हंसकास्तथा
The Audumbaras, hard to distinguish, stand at the gate, restrained; the Kāśmīras, Kumāras, Gaurakas, and Haṃsakas too.
शिबित्रैगर्तयौधेया राजन्या मद्रकैः सह। वसुतेयाः समौलेया दाहक्षुद्रकमालवैः
The Śibis, Trigartas, Yaudheyas—warriors along with the Madras, the Vasutejas, Samauleyas, and the Dāhas, Kṣudrakas, Mālavas,
चौण्डिकाश्चौदकाश्चैव साल्वाश्चैव विशम्पते। अङ्कवङ्काश्च यवना अनवद्या गयैः सह
The Cauṇḍikas, Audakas, and the Sālvas, O lord of men, the Aṅkas, Vaṅkas, Yavanas—faultless ones—together with the Gayas,
सुजातयः श्रेणिमन्तः श्रेयांसः शस्त्रधारिणः। आहार्षुः क्षत्रिया वित्तं शतशोऽजातशत्रवै
Noble-born, organized in guilds, excellent and armed with weapons, these Kṣatriyas brought wealth by the hundreds to Ajātaśatru.
वङ्काः कलिङ्गा मगधास्ताम्रलिप्ताः सपुण्ड्रकाः। दुकूलं कौशिकं चैव पत्रोर्णं चैव भारत
The Vaṅkas, Kaliṅgas, Magadhas, Tāmraliptas with the Puṇḍras, brought fine linen from Kauśika and cloth of leaves and wool, O Bhārata.
उपावृत्ता नृपास्तस्य ददुः प्रीतिं न चागमन्। उच्यन्ते तत्र हि द्वार्स्थैर्बलिमादाय विष्ठिताः
The kings who had arrived gave their respects but did not enter; those who stood at the gates with tribute are mentioned there.
ईषादन्तान्हेमकक्ष्यान्पद्मवर्णान्कुथावृतान्। शैलाभान्नित्यमत्तांश्चाप्यभितः काम्यकं सरः
With slightly curved tusks, golden chains, lotus-colored, covered with cloth, and always intoxicated, elephants surrounded the Kāmyaka lake.
क्षमावतः कुलीनांश्च कुञ्जरान्सपरिच्छदान्। दत्त्वैकैको दशशतान्द्वारेण प्रविशन्त्विति
Noble elephants with attendants, belonging to patient and high-born lords, each gave a hundred at the gate and were allowed to enter.
वैदेहकाश्च पुण्ड्राश्च गौलेयास्ताम्रलिप्तकाः। मरुकाः काशिका दर्दा भौमेया नटनाटकाः
The Vaidehas, Puṇḍras, Gauleyas, Tāmraliptakas, Marukas, Kāśikas, Dardas, Bhaumeyas, and dancers and actors,
कर्णाटाः कांस्यकुट्टाश्च पद्मजालाः सतीनराः। दाक्षिणात्याः पुलिन्दाश्च शवेरास्तङ्कणाः शषाः
The Karṇāṭas, workers in bronze, Padmajālas, virtuous men, southerners, Pulindas, Śaveras, Taṅkaṇas, and Śaṣas,
बर्बरा यवनाश्चैव गर्गराभीरकास्तथा। पल्लवाः शककारूशास्तुम्बकाः काशिकास्तदा
The Barbaras, Yavanas, Gargaras, Ābhīras, Pallavas, Śakas, Kārūṣas, Tumbakas, and Kāśikas at that time,
एते चान्ये च बहवो नानादिगभ्यः समागताः। अन्यैश्चोपहृतान्यत्र रत्नानि हि महात्मभिः
And many others from various directions gathered there, and other great souls brought jewels as gifts.
