यथार्हं पूज्य नृपतीन्भ्रातॄन्सर्वानुवाच ह। राजानः सर्व एवैते प्रीत्याऽस्मान्प्तमुपागताः
Having duly honored the kings and all his brothers, spoke to them: 'All these kings have come to us with affection.'
प्रस्थिताः स्वानि राष्ट्राणि मामापृच्छय परन्तपाः। अनुव्रजत भद्रं वो विषयान्तं नृपोत्तमान्
'These scorcher of foes, having taken leave of me, have set out for their own kingdoms. Escort these foremost kings to the borders of their realms, with blessings.'
भ्रातुर्वचनमाज्ञाय पाण्डवा धर्मचारिणः। यथार्हं नृपतीन्सर्वानेकैकं समनुव्रजन्
Obeying their brother’s command, the righteous Pandavas escorted each of the kings, as was proper.
विरायटमन्वायात्तूर्णं धृष्टह्युम्नः प्रतापवान्। धनञ्जयो यज्ञसेनं महात्मानं महारथम्
The valiant Dhrishtadyumna quickly accompanied the mighty Yajnasena; Dhananjaya escorted the great-souled, great chariot-warrior Yajnasena.
भीष्मं च धृतराष्ट्रं च भीमसेनो महाबलः। द्रोणं तु ससुतं वीरं सहदेवो युधां पतिः
Bhimasena, of great strength, escorted Bhishma and Dhritarashtra; Sahadeva, lord of warriors, escorted the heroic Drona with his son.
नकुलः सुबलं राजन्सहपुत्रं समन्वयात्। द्रौपदेयाः ससौभद्राः पार्वतीयान्महारथान्
Nakula accompanied King Subala with his son; the sons of Draupadi, along with Saubhadra, escorted the great chariot-warriors from Parvati’s line.
अन्वगच्छंस्तथैवान्यान्क्षत्रियान्क्षत्रियर्षभाः। एवं सुपूजिताः सर्वे जग्मुर्विप्राः सहस्रशः
In the same way, the best of the Kshatriyas escorted other Kshatriyas. Thus, having been duly honored, all the Brahmanas departed by the thousands.
गतेषु पार्थिवेन्द्रेषु सर्वेषु ब्राह्मणेषु च। युधिष्ठिरमुवाचेदं वासुदेवः प्रतापवान्
When all the kings and Brahmanas had departed, the mighty Vasudeva spoke these words to Yudhishthira.
आपृच्छे त्वां गमिष्यामि द्वारकां कुरुनन्दन। राजसूयं क्रतुश्रेष्ठं दिष्ट्या त्वं प्राप्तवानसि
'I take my leave of you, son of Kuru; I shall go to Dvaraka. By fortune, you have attained the Rajasuya, the foremost of sacrifices.'
तमुवाचैवमुक्तस्तु धर्मराजो जनार्दनम्। तव प्रसादाद्गोविन्द प्राप्तः क्रतुवरो मया
Thus addressed, King Yudhishthira said to Janardana: 'By your grace, Govinda, I have accomplished this greatest of sacrifices.'
क्षत्रं समग्रमपि च त्वत्प्रसादाद्वशे स्थितम्। उपादाय बलिं मुख्यं मामेव समुपस्थितम्
All the kshatriyas, though assembled, have come under your control by your favor, and the chief tribute has been brought to me.
कथं त्वद्गमनार्थं मे वाणी वितरतेऽनघ
How is it that my words now urge you to depart, O sinless one?
न ह्यहं त्वामृते वीरं रतिं प्राप्नोमि कर्हचित्। अवश्यं चैव गन्तव्या भवता द्वारका पुरी
For without you, O hero, I never find delight; and you must indeed go to the city of Dvaraka.
एवमुक्तः स धर्मात्मा युधिष्ठिरसहायवान्। अभिगम्याब्रवीत्प्रीतः पृथां पृथुयशा हरिः
Thus addressed, that righteous-souled one, Yudhishthira, surrounded by his companions, approached and joyfully spoke to Pritha, the illustrious Hari.
साम्राज्यं समनुप्राप्ताः पुत्रास्तेऽद्य पितृष्वसः। सिद्धार्था वसुमन्तश्च सा त्वं प्रीतिमवाप्नुहि
Your sons, O sister of their father, have today attained imperial sovereignty, achieved their aims, and are wealthy; therefore, be pleased.
अनुज्ञातस्त्वया चाहं द्वारकां गन्तुमुत्सहे। सुभद्रां द्रौपदीं चैव सभाजयत केशवः
With your permission, I am able to depart for Dvaraka; and Keshava honored both Subhadra and Draupadi.
निष्क्रम्यान्तः पुरात्तस्माद्युधिष्ठिरसहायवान्। स्नातश्च कृतजप्यश्च ब्राह्मणान्स्वस्ति वाच्य च
Then, leaving the inner apartments, accompanied by Yudhishthira, having bathed and performed his prayers, he took leave of the brahmins.
ततो मेघवपुः प्रग्व्यं स्यन्दनं च सुकल्पितम्। योजयित्वा महाबाहुर्दारुकः समुपस्थितः
Then Daruka, mighty-armed and of cloud-like form, having readied the splendid chariot, stood there prepared.
उपस्थितं रथं दृष्ट्वा तार्क्ष्यप्रवरकेतनम्। प्रदक्षिणमुपावृत्य समारुह्य महामनाः
Seeing the chariot adorned with the banner of Garuda present, the high-minded one circumambulated it and ascended.
प्रययौ पुण्डरीकाक्षस्ततो द्वारवतीं पुरीम्
Then the lotus-eyed one set out for the city of Dvaraka.
तं पद्भ्यामनुवव्राज धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः। भ्रातृभिः सहितः श्रीमान्वासुदेवं महाबलम्
King Yudhishthira, accompanied by his brothers, followed the mighty Vāsudeva on foot.
ततो मुहूर्तं सङ्गृह्य स्यन्दनप्रवरं हरिः। अब्रवीत्पुण्डरीकाक्षः कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम्
Then Hari, having halted the excellent chariot for a moment, spoke to Kunti's son Yudhishthira, O lotus-eyed one.
अप्रमत्तः स्थितो नित्यं प्रजाः पाहि विशाम्पते। पर्जन्यमिव भूतानि महाद्रुममिव द्विजाः
Remain ever vigilant, O lord of the people, and protect your subjects, as the rain-cloud does living beings, as the great tree does the birds.
बान्धवास्त्वोपजीवन्तु सहस्राक्षमिवामराः। कृत्वा परस्परेणैव संवादं कृष्णपाण्डवौ
Let your kinsmen thrive like the immortals with thousand eyes; thus, having conversed together, Krishna and the Pandava.
अन्योन्यं समनुज्ञाप्य जग्मतुः स्वगृहान्प्रति। गते द्वारवतीं कृष्णे सात्वतप्रवरे नृप
Having mutually taken leave, they returned to their own homes; and when Krishna, foremost of the Satvatas, had gone to Dvaraka, O king—
महादुर्योधनो राजा शकुनिश्चापि सौबलः। `सूतपुत्रश्च गधेयः सह दुःशासनादिभिः
Then the great king Duryodhana, and Shakuni son of Subala, and the son of the charioteer, and the son of Gadha, along with Duhshasana and others—
सर्वकामगुणोपेतैरर्च्यमानास्तु भारत'। तस्यां सभायां दिव्यायामवसंस्तत्र पाण्डवैः
All honored in that divine assembly, endowed with every desirable quality, dwelt there with the Pandavas, O Bharata.
अनुसंसार्य नृपतीन्पाण्डवाः पाण्डवाग्रजम्। अभिजग्मुर्महेष्वासा धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम्
Having dismissed the assembled kings, the Pandavas, mighty archers, approached Yudhishthira, the king of righteousness.
सोऽनुमेने महाबाहुर्भातॄंश्च सुहृदस्तथा'। शिष्यैः परिवृतो व्यासः पुरस्तात्समपद्यत
Then the mighty-armed Vyasa, surrounded by his brothers, friends, and disciples, appeared at the front.
सोऽभ्ययादासनात्तूर्णं भ्रातृभिः परिवारितः। पाद्येनासनदानेन पितामहमपूजयत्
He quickly approached from his seat, encircled by his brothers, and honored the grandsire with water for washing the feet and a seat.
